Next 2+ years

Post#1 » by The Alchemist » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:16 am

Unlike a lot of people here I think we still have a good chance at a title this year given a few hot streaks in the playoffs but is anyone scare at the contracts we have over the next few years? I'm not writing KG completely off yet as he may need more time to get the knee back but I think it's fair to say he'll never be the same again. Everyone seems to think Ray + Paul will take a discount to stay here but I'm not really sold on it. Both guys are going to want 3 year deals and I'd guess the total of them would be 20 mil a year. Add these contracts with Sheed's and If Pierce were to slip even a little bit we are going to be in huge in trouble because he is the only player who can consistently create his own shot.

I agree. This year we should try to get a replacement for Ray. Either trade him now or a S&T later on.Pierce is our one constant.

It is obvious that Rasheed is washed up. I remember when the Big 3 added Artis Gilmore who was a top 5 big man in his day. I was so excited until I saw him run down the court. Anyone else remember Rigor Artis?

Can Wallace still help the team? I hope so. But my fantasy of having 2 7 foot shot blocking mobile defenders is a pipedream. That Wallace doesn't exist anymore. I am not sure that KG is here anymore.

Still, with Pierce and a core of talented big men and Rondo there is a chance we can make a last run this year.

I think Danny has to be bold and pull the trigger on a trade to infuse younger talent onto this team. Can it be done? Economy and Ray Allen's expiring is only hope. In end, we will probably see a repeat of 1988.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

The team's conserving now. Give KG some time and let them beast in the playoffs before panicking. I do think we're done after next season, if we won't already be done by then. We're like the Spurs at this point, limp into the playoffs as a 1-4 seed, then just win when it matters.

I think we are in good shape both now and down the line. As Zin5 said, we are conserving right now. IT would be foolish for KG and Sheed to be banging in the low post at this point in the season. We are over .700 with them taking it real easy on offense. Come playoffs they will go all out.

After years of sucking, I have come to realize that you are better off being a bit washed up than a bit too young. All of our big contracts will become expirings. If we can flip one of them into another star we are fine. Rondo is probably at the very least a borderline all star for the next 10 years and Perk will be a solid 5 for the next 10. It is kind of a big deal to have your 1 and 5 spots locked up. Remember all those years on never having a point or center? Most teams have only a few guys at the 2 3 and 4 and never get anywhere. Even if we do nothing, 3 years from now we probably still make the playoffs and finish around .600. I think if you can hover around .600 you can be like the Pistons before they got Sheed and won the title and that is worlds better than lurking in the lotto hoping to get the next LBJ.

If I could be given an NBA team (and I was a fan of no team) 5 years from now, the Celtics would not be a bad choice at all. I mean how many teams would be obviously better 5 years from now? Only teams with a young super star that isn't going anywhere, so Orlando, ummm who else?

We will be good for the next few years with the talent we already have, we have a bunch of expiring contracts with guys who are popular and can put butts in seats comming up and we have Ainge at the helm and owner who have been commited to doing things the right way, ie not cheaping out, to get a good team.
