League Commish: should I veto this?

Post#1 » by Gus McCrae » Mon Nov 23, 2009 5:52 pm

As some of you may or may not know, I recently traded Arenas for CP3 right when CP3 went down. gave the league 4-5 days to offer something better, but the guy didn't want any injured players and everyoen lowballed him so the trade went through.

This is a 14 person money league : 2 guys yesterday, both out in NY, are in a pending trade of Joe Johnson and Ben Gordon for Caron Butler and Marvin Williams.

If you look at ESPN rankings for the projected season as of today, both JJ and BG are ranked higher than Caron and Marvin isnt' even top 100. How they've played so far, Caron's bottom 160 while JJ and BG are top 50 both.

People are asking me to veto. If I set league vote it will be vetoe'd or I can veto, but i think the arenas/ CP3 trade will make it seem like i"m cheating. I could trade arenas back for CP3, though I will have gotten screwed out of the last week and veto the trade. or let it go. thoughts?

Arenas for CP3 is worse than that deal so just by the standard you've set you shouldn't veto it.

I'd email the guy getting Caron and Marvin Williams and ask him for his motivation for accepting the trade. Mention to him the current ranks of the players.

If he can justify why he wants caron+Marvin so badly, and it is a reasonable explanation (ie. NOT "Both are my favorite players") then I'd let it go through.

By the way, any open spots next season?

Arenas for CP3 is defintely favoring me, but goign by ESPN rankings; CP3 is ranked at 11, while Arenas was ranked at 23. It's a difference of 12.

Joe Johnson is like 50 points ahead of of Caron Butler and Ben Gordon is also projected higher than Caron. So, that actually makes the Arenas for CP3 minus one month much more fair.

EDIT: the thing is, the league is asking me to veto this one. wheras was not the case in the Arenas/CP3. Also, the guy who trade CHris Paul is friends with everyone in our league. The only person who knows the guy trading away JJ and BG is the guy he's trading him with...on the East Coast. nobody else in the league has ever met him.

Rankings are complete horse dump. Never use it! Just look at stats and do your own analysis of what you are giving and what you are getting. Rankings leave out a lot of variables and considerations.

Agreed. Rankings are useless. Plus, they aren't equal. The difference between #1 and #15 is much bigger than that of #101 and #115.

It's definitely a one-sided deal, but not veto-worthy IMO.

you set the bar astronomically high and have basically lost all credibility for veto-ing trades. Arenas for Paul is a whole lot worse than this deal.

Okay, I let it go through today. As long as Caron's MRI comes back okay.

ChronicKerr, I'm referring to ESPN's projected rankings. Every week, they update player's fantasy value for the remainder of the season. I'm bummed on the Arenas/Paul trade because my team is in first place of 14 without Chris Paul. I want to trade him back but the guy doesn't want him back cuz he doesn't think Paul will return for awhile.

Do you think I should take Arenas back and give him Deron Williams for CP3?
