it's not the same as community service in America is. it's an alternative to serving for the military. here in Germany all men are supposed to serve for the military for 9 months and if you don't want to join the forces you can choose to serve for your country by different means. ususally you work at retirement homes, hospitals, schools etc.

however, the tendency has been over the last years that only about 50% (if at all) of all men have to serve for their country. it's a dumb idea to begin with to be forced to join the army because it's basically a complete waste of money. oh and our new government ruled to shorten the length once again. from 2011 on you only have to serve for 6 months which makes it an even dumber concept.

why do they waste all the time and effort when they can do what the US does and just convince everybody the army is super fun and cool and basically the same as playing Call of Duty

I wish I'd have gone to the military. My girlfriends fault...she wanted me to stay
I work in a kindergarten and an after school care club.
Don't have the impression that I'm even needed there. All things I've got to do are things the normal employees could easily do as well w/o working longer. But they don't want to do it.
Unfortunately, they have the impression they need me so badly that I can't get a day off although I've 24 days of vacacion left

Just an example: They forgot to tell me to bring 5 little plant pots into the cellar since Wednesday last week and told me today I should do it. They did even write a piece of paper to remember that they need to tell me that instead of investing a minute and bring them down themselves. I bet they needed longer to write that paper than they would have needed to bring the pots in the cellar

no because we serve 3.2 % alcohol at Target Center. Imagine a stout morning piss after a night of hard drinking, then halve the alcohol content of that and you have 3.2 beer

hey I served my 9 months in an after school care center as well but I loved it. actually they hired me to do the janitor stuff but they quickly realized I wasn't that good at doing this kind of work. turns out, I spend a lot of time with the kids.

Bucks had the same thing happen to them last year. Their only scheduled national TV game was against New Orleans in February. Instead they switched it to Detroit and Orlando.
