How about Sam Mitchell, he was good for the raptors but things just didn't work out.

He's basically a worse version of Lawrence Frank, so no to Sam Snitchell either.

Paul Silas now that's a guy I'd be on board with...

If the offense starts to pick up when everyone is back and healthy, then I'd be fine with Van Gundy, but if it doesn't...we might, unfortunately, have to look somewhere else.

#1 on my list is Tom Thibodeau, orchestrator of Boston's vaunted defense, and basically THE reason Doc looks like an elite coach. He's busy, so...

Kareem Abdul Jabaar (Brooklyn native, don't cha know!)

Maurizio Gherardini (Raptors assistant GM, very successful former coach in Europe)

John Calipari (just kidding, a scary but true deja vu possibility)

More likely though, Prokhorov will make sure we hire that CSKA Moscow coach he likes, if not immediately, then by the offseason (in the meantime we'd promote an assistant to be "interim" coach).

I was thinking about Silas. I've always loved his demeanor, and he was LeTravalier's first and still favorite NBA coach, if that matters for anything. Still, he's older than Kareem, I think...

No to Byron Scott, Stan Van Gundy, Marc Jackson and Sam Mitchell. Just no. I would CAUTIOUSLY consider Avery, but ONLY if we traded Devin because we got the #1 pick (Wall); Johnson really wanted the Chicago job for a chance to coach Rose. I think he'd get out of his team's way if he could mentor a HoF-caliber talent at PG.

No to all these names except Jeff Van Gundy.

Yes to trying to convince Rudy Tomjanovic to come back.

If Opie was replaced with Smitch, or Avery, I think I would throw up.

The rest of the season we'll go with an interm assistant like TB but after that. I wouldn't mind giving this Messina guy a try or Fratello. I would be ok with Jeff Van Gundy and would love to tab Thibodeau.

In order:
1. Thibodeau
2. Messina
3. Fratello
4. JVG

Paul Silas can't coach his way out of a paper bag. Plus, I know Lebron is an EXTREME longshot, but Silas and him don't get along. It was well documented after Silas was fired in Cleveland. If we hire him, we go from a 1% chance to get Lebron to a negative infinity percent chance.

When we fire Frank this season, we're obviously just going to have an interim coach and wait till the offseason. One of our assistants will take over. Hell maybe even Kiki (he'd just imply the "in 7 seconds or less" rule because Kiki's offense was his defense lol).

Only coaches I'd be intrigued by:

Jeff Van Gundy (always liked him with the Knicks and I think he's a good coach)
Tom Thibodeau (He should know the ins and outs of our team since he's in our division)
Messina (He's arguably the best coach in Europe, so I would think he's worth a shot if interested)

Avery Johnson is a no go. That guy wouldn't be able to handle a team as young as we are.

I totally agree. Not just about the interim coach, but also about next season coaches candidates.

The thought of having to look at Kiki on the sidelines would seriously turn my stomach. If Frank does get canned before the season ends I guess I would go with Overton as the interum.

Then I would to see if we could get Mike O'Koren next season. Mikes a Jersey guy and a local legend. A career Net. He good under pressure. He got a lot of experiance under his belt. He was with us when we went to the finals and he was with us in bad times too. It would be great to see him get a shot.

Who would be a coach who would be guaranteed to get Lopez posting up more? Is that just anyone who isn't Frank? Lopez also needs to get better with passing out of the double team. I've watched every game so far this season and I don't think I've seen him make one of those fancy backdoor passes. They need to kick out and repost. I guess part of the problem is that we lack the perimeter shooting to spread the floor. So defences can get away with collapsing on Brook.

My god the ball movement has been poor. It's like all the guards have tunnel vision. Are these actual plays that they're running. Because it looks like 1 to 2 passes max and then goal or nothing. No extra passes. Or is it that these guys are just such poor passers and any additional ball movement is turnovers. The nets have got to be dead last in assists.

I never knew that about Silas and LeBron. I remember him saying one time that Paul was the best coach he'd ever played for, but maybe that was BEFORE their relationship turned sour.

Anyway, Ettore Messina was the guy I was talking about, the former CSKA Moscow coach. Sounds like Kiki will be the interim coach if we finish out this WC road trip winless, but I'd wager Messina is our coach by June 2010.
