Let T-macs contract expire

Post#1 » by The Scoot » Wed Nov 25, 2009 10:48 am

If we let T-macs contract expire we will have 23 milloion dollars to lash out on in the strongest
FA pool that the league has seen in seasons, possibly ever. Any strong FA signing will see that as a huge temptation and this is one of the best chances we have to do some solid rebuilding.

Tracey hasn't been fit in a long time, with all the injuries he has had he just isn't worth the money he is getting off the current contract.

Why would we trade him for mediocre talent or, old players near the end of their careers?
An example of this is about every hypothetical trade that a Knicks fan has posted on the board.

If we let his contract expire we hold a much stronger position at the end of the season with the FA market and potential signings.

Just cause his contract expires for 23 million. It does not necessarily mean we will have 23 million in cap space. Sorry to burst your bubble.

He is still not worthy of being the highest paid player in the league. Also I think we are better without his BS of not wanting to play around christmas and not getting us past the 1st rd of the playoffs. I bet he was fuming about his decision to have the surgery when he didnt need it and then watch us get past the 1 st rd without him. I also cant undersdtand all of the Tmac Love when if memory serves me right he picked the LAkers over his own Team??? If Yao doesnt go out with an injury we could have possibly beating LA!!! Just show why he cant stick with any organazition not one everywhere he has been he has basicly been ran out of town!!!!

Rockets aren't going to have anywhere close to 23 million to spend. First off their sitting at 43 million next season (about 12 million under the cap). And that is with Scola and Lowry being restricted FA's (who also both have "cap-holds" meaning that they both count 6mil toward the cap until they get new contracts, sign with another team or have their rights renounced.) Scola will probably get a deal similar to Ariza's around 5-6 mil/per, and Lowry get a deal similar to Landry's around 3mil/per. They could also give an extension to Hayes around 3 mil/per...so the Rockets are essentially looking at being slightly under/above the cap for next season at 55mil.

But that does also mean the Rockets can have the full mid-level exception to spend. Remember they had two this season (when they got one back for Yao's injury). Using the first one on Ariza. And the second one on David Andersen and the Budinger/Taylor contracts.

Since I guess there's a limit on the amount of characters you can use per post....

The Rockets COULD do a sign and trade for a Wade, LeBron, Bosh if they wanted to play here. But their not just going to just sign them. All three of those guys will get 17 mil to resign with their current teams and would only get 12.5 mil/per to go to a new team unless they orchestrate the S&T.

When McGrady signed that extension he was worth the money. Just because he's been injury plagued people all of a sudden forget how good we was/can be and how big of an impact he has on the team? Healthy McGrady is EASILY our best player.

I think that yes RA is bitter about the b*tch move T-Mac pulled last season, but RA knows its all about winning. When he feels Mac is ready to go, he will be activated and he will be an amazing team. Say bye-bye to all of scoring droughts (which happen often). Cause not only can T-Mac put the ball in the basket but he is the best player we have at creating for himself and his teammates.

The Rockets have a 65 winning % with Mac and Yao, 60% with Mac alone, 33% with neither and 50% with Yao alone. He maybe had a terrible year last season but he still is the Rockets best player by a wide margin, as long as he'll keep being healthy...

Maybe Houston doesnt have 23 mill in cap space, but the pay roll for next year is only 43 mill which and includes:
Brooks / Lowry
Ariza
Battier / Buddinger
Landry / Hayes
Yao / Anderson

Thats pretty solid.

exactly
the only way we will have enough cap to sign the top 3 FA is to let T-Mac contract expired and trade Yao or half of the rotation players for expiring contracts

remembered what we did for Pippen?
we ended up with bunches of CBA guys playing with our big 3

Rockets payroll is 55 million for next year in theory because of the cap holds of Scola and Lowry. Until they get new deals the Rockets are over the cap. This is too prevent teams from spending money on FA's and then resigning their own FA's afterwards.

NBA sure has some crazy loopholes but I love the system they have in place to make it easy for teams to retain their own free agents and for the desire of players to not leave the small market teams for the spotlight.

i like all the speculations but in the end i trust morey will know what to do. i already think the plans are already in the works... i bet some of the trades we have already made are to prepare for the eventual. Morey is like always a step or two ahead of many of us. it pulls off the unexpected trade and usually is correct. many didn't understand the cookie monster trade (he sucks and his contract was not expiring then!)but i believe that morey was gunning it for the 2010 expiry contract date and Lowry. Hence, In Morey I Trust.

$55 million is assuming that Rockets do not renounce their rights over Scola and Lowry and giving Hayes his 1 year team option of $2.3 million and Dorsey 1 year team option of 0.9 million.

If Rockets renounce their rights of Scola and Lowry and not extending Hayes and Dorsey, then their payroll will be $40.5 million. If the cap is 52 million, Rockets have 11.5 million worth of cap space. If the cap is $55 million, the rockets have 14.5 million of cap space. They might be able to sign an Allstar type in this approach. But they do risk to lose Scola, Lowry and Hayes to free agency. It is a risky approach but a possible and probable move by Rockets. The decision will probably depend on what is the eventual cap $55 million? $ 52 million? or $50 million?

IF Tmac can play and play at a decent level, there will be some suitors for him and some team MAY go for the sign and trade route which will bring some benefits to Rockets too.

the reason why LeBron, Wade, and Bosh signed 3 years extension instead of the max 5 years, so they can be at least 7 years in the NBA to qualify for having their max contract equal 30% of the salary cap

so if Rockets can't get 18M below cap with Yao and some good quality rotation players on the team, don't expect them to sign

Return to Houston Rockets
