You are Bobcats GM - Tell Us Your Plan
You are Bobcats GM. Describe your personnel moves for the rest of the season and during the 2010 offseason to put the Bobcats on the best path torward future success. You do not need to necessarily have the team in a position to win the most games in 2010-11. You might decide to giove the team cap flexibility for the future and have 2010-11 be a rebuilding year.
Each response should have the following:
2009-2010 trades: Start with trades you would pull of by the current season's trade deadline.
2010 draft: Assume we get our 2010 pick (which Minnesota receives unless we are in the lottery) and assume our selection is #8. I realize the actual selection might be influenced by moves you make in 2009-2010 but lets try to keep it simple. Any draft night deals you can include here also. Assume the trade order is the order listed here (based on current records):
http://www.nbadraft.net/2010mock_draft
2010 offseason signings and trades: Assume the 2010-2011 salary cap figure is the same as 2009-2010 of $57.7 million.
Make sure your personnel moves fit within the CBA rules. Don't post ridiculous trades either. I realize its all a matter of opinion but extremely uneven trades or trades involving untouchables (e.g, Lebron, Kobe, Howard, etc.) are not realistic and worth our time to evaluate.
Here is our current salary cap situation over the next few years:
http://hoopshype.com/salaries/charlotte.htm
Here's a listing of unresolved draft pick conveyances from prior trades:
http://www.nbadraft.net/2010draftnotes.html
Once we have several proposals we can evaluate them and vote which one is best.

Hoopshype is not a site to check salaries, never was.* Capologist and those people who I know use what I linked. For a reason. So no, but I know people who I can trust on this topic so I can just assume they know better.
*they don't even find out what UPS's contract is
I would say that couple of milions difference is enough to matter. This thread fails bobcats style:)

Re: You are Bobcats GM - Tell Us Your Plan
I tried for a while and couldn't come up with any trades.
I think after this season...
Assuming we are drafting around the 10 spot, take a big man. Cole Aldrich if he's available. Assuming he's not, take one of Ed Davis, Patrick Patterson, Arnett Moultrie, Greg Monroe...
Reluctantly do not resign Felton (what kind of contract will he get elsewhere?). Do not resign Acie Law. Do not resign Stephen Graham.
Sign the first rounder. Sign the second rounder (scoring potential, Desean Butler?)
Resign Flip to something like 2 years/4.5 million? I'm no good at estimating these contracts.
Bring back Derrick Brown.
Pursue Steve Blake in free agency, a pure veteran point who can shoot a bit. Not sure how valuable he is to the Blazers, but he should be an unrestricted free agent. He can start for the Bobcats next season. 3 years/16 million ?
Blake/Augustin/Murray
Jackson/Murray/Henderson
Wallace/Brown/Draftee (Butler?)
Diaw/Draftee (Ed Davis?)/Diop
Chandler/Nazr/Ajinca
Thats 15 contracts.
After 10-11 it's a crap shoot.
I would probably let Chandler walk to get back closer to the cap. Nazr could stick around if he's willing to take a pay cut. Wallace and Diaw on the trading block. Probably let Ajinca walk
****The success of this plan relies greatly on an impact player being drafted this coming draft, someone who can contribute next season. Someone who can score and play defense.

Re: You are Bobcats GM - Tell Us Your Plan
I always find playing GM fun. It seems so easy on NBA 2K games
I try to make sure my trades are realistic, which means getting ripped off when you blow up your team.
So here is my "Blow up the Team" plan.
Trade S.Jackson and Diaw for J.J. Hickson, Big Z and Delonte West. Should be able to get a 1st round pick off them as well.
Cav's wanted Jack and Diaw would be a great fit starting between Lebron and Shaq, they still have the rugged Sideshow Bob on the bench. This would have to be one of those under the table handshake deals where we promise to immediately waive Z so he can return to Cleveland to finish his career.
West's contract is only partially guaranteed for $500,000 if waived before 8/3/10, so he essentially becomes an expiring contract.
So basically we are overpaying for JJ Hickson, who has shown signs of becoming a good Pf and a draft pick. But we get rid of Jack's contract as well.
Next we trade G.Wallace for Rudy Fernandez, Blake and Outlaw.
Again this would have to be one of those deals where we agree to waive Blake so he can return to Portland, as he appears to be highly valued there. Outlaw is out for a long time and they really need some help at the 3 spot, Wallace would be a perfect fit and Rudy appears stuck in Roy's shadow in Portland. Outlaw is an expiring contract, so this is essentially Rudy for Wallace. I would push for a 1st round draft pick, but it wouldnt be a deal breaker for me.
Diop is the only large contract left, at this time I can't think of a way to ship him off. I'd refuse to sacrifice any youth to get rid of him. My best effort would be Felt's, Flip and Diop for Dalembert who expires at the same time as Chandler/Nazr. Might be enough.
I'm happy to hold onto Chandler and Nazr's contract as they become expiring's next year and hopefully we can use them to trade for more parts next year. They would be available for further trades as long as it brought back either potential or a 1st round draft pick.
So the team becomes:
Dj/Law
Rudy/Henderson
Brown/Graham
Hickson/Jinx
Chandler/Nazr/Dally
Lets blood these young fella's and see how they go. Yes, they should suck for this year and hopefully land us a good draft pick where I would pick the best player available, no matter what position they are. Hopefully we land Wall.
Yes, we have turned into the Timberwolves, but hopefully we can build something special from there.

Re: You are Bobcats GM - Tell Us Your Plan
Have I got too much time on my hands??? You would think I would be busier with 5 month old twins.
So this is my "Win Now" Plan. Which is a lot trickier than blowing up.
Utah seem happy to play out Boozer this year, as he is performing well in his contract year (Typical
) and then let him walk. I might be wrong, but I don't think we can trade for him without gutting our team.
One team that has disappointed greatly and is about to explode is Washington. Lets help them rebuild by giving them Felt's and Nazr for Jamison. Its just a salary dump for Washington, who knows they might get more out of Felt's. He's a loyal fella, so I'm sure if it did work out there he would resign.
We then sign AI and see how Brown does with that squad.
AI/DJ/Law
Jack/Flip/Hendo
Wallace/Diaw/Graham
Jamison/Diaw/Brown
Chandler/Nazr/Jinx.
Should assist us in scoring, but would they win? Who bloody knows really.
Alternatively....
I think Brand might be playing himself off the trading block for the moment, but if Phillie are still keen:
Wallace/Diaw for Brand/Thad Young and Kapono. which leaves us with.
Felts/Dj/Law
Jack/Flip/Hendo
Young/Kapono/Graham
Brand/Brown/Jinx
Chandler/Nazr/Diop.
We now have a post presence who has shown some of his old form lately. I think Browns style would suit Brand. Give Felt's strict instructions to stop chucking otherwise bench him. Thad has been playing some Pf for Phillie with small ball, so we would use him as a back up as well. Or we could trade Felts for a backup, we could easily get Jeffries from the Knicks or Najera from New Jersey. Neither are exciting players but can fill the back up role.
Once again, you cannot guarantee it would work, but it would be interesting.

(1) Sign Iverson.
(2) Trade Chandler for Okafor.
(3) See how far that team can go. If it works well, go to (4a). If it works poorly, go to (4b).
(4a) Stick with that team and look to upgrade the bench via trades and free agency.
(4b) Stick with that team until they meet the win threshold to forfeit the pick we traded for Ajinca, then blow it up and start everything completely over.

Re: You are Bobcats GM - Tell Us Your Plan
Now my favourite, the Aussie plan.
Trade Felt's for Outlaw and Patty Mills. Cut Outlaw.
Trade Dj for David Anderson and the rights for Brad Newley.
Trade Graham for Jawai.
Trade Wallace and Nazr for Bogut and Gadzuric.
Sign Jo Ingles from Europe. (Lanky 6'8 do it all player, played for Golden State Summer League Team and probably would have come close to a spot in the team if he wasn't in a horrible shooting slump)
Bogut/Jawaii
Anderson/Jawaii
Ingles/Jackson
Newley/Jackson
Mills/Ingles.
We allow Jackson a reserve role as a honoury Aussie as he played in our local National Basketball League before playing in the NBA.

Re: You are Bobcats GM - Tell Us Your Plan
Uhm, I'll give my point of view in this.
We traded away Radmanovich and Bell, both decent 3 point shooters. Now our lineup is Diaw, Wallace, Jackson and Felton. For better review let's take last years 3 point FG%. Diaw - 0.419, Wallace 0.298, Felton - 0.285, Jackson - 0.338. What does it tell you? If Diaw is the one, who is meant for setting up shots for others, then there is no hope that we got threat beyond the arc and that's vital in today's NBA, as we don't have true low post scorer.
1. Do something with Felton. He is expiring contract and might be good chip in this years FA. Trade him away for some return, low post threat PF for example.
2. Stick to DJ. His FG% shooting in college was 0.441 in 2006 and 0.381 in 2007 and in NBA in first season 0.439. He might be our starting PG afterall if he only gets out from his shooting slump and learns to defense. He got speed, but he needs teaching. But watching DJ play, he hasn't learn much (defense) from last year, so why should we hope he learns more now?

While I do not see Philly doing that deal, I would be up with that trade. I think Brand is still a good player, and in LB's system paired with Jax, would be a force.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: You are Bobcats GM - Tell Us Your Plan
This is simple for me:
#1. Trade Wallace for someone who can score at the PF spot (like Boozer - maybe Wallace + Diop for Miles and Boozer if Utah would do it. Or maybe just Wallace + Ajinca for Boozer.
#2. Move Diaw to SF
#3. Make a push for the playoffs with a better scoring, rebounding, and efficient team. See if one or both of our PG's can catch on and lead this team.
#4. 2010 draft - draft a quality big man unless a better prospect at another position is available
End result for 2009:
PG - Felton / DJ / Law
SG - Jackson / Henderson
SF - Diaw / Brown / CJ Miles
PF - Boozer / Ajinca
C - Chandlar / Nazr
2010 summer - I would definitely try to move Chandlar. I like Hamilton's idea of moving him for Okafor. I think if we ever spent the time to put a scoring PF next to Okafor he would flourish. We likely wouldn't be able to do that though so then we just let him walk once his contract is up (2011, no way he doesn't accept the qualifying offer this summer).

What a contrast between two teams. Nellie likes to have at least 4 guys on at any time who can hit threes. He'll go small at PF just to stretch the floor. He'd make 3 trades in a week if someone handed him the Bobcats.
