Chi/Mem 3 teamer

Post#1 » by Esohny » Wed Nov 25, 2009 3:48 am

I've been trying to figure out a 3 team trad with the grizzlies, so this one isn't too bad, but I'm trying to figure out if it needs tweaking or if I'm totally off base.

Wolves in:
Marc Gasol
Rudy Gay
James Johnson
Marko Jaric
Steven Hunter

Wolves out:
Al Jefferson
Ryan Gomes
Corey Brewer

Chicago in:
Al Jefferson
Corey Brewer

Chicago out:
James Johnson
Joakim Noah
Kirk Hinrich

Memphis in:
Joakim Noah
Ryan Gomes
Kirk Hinrich
2nd rounder (via Wolves)

Memphis out:
Rudy Gay
Marc Gasol
Marko Jaric
Steven Hunter

For the Wolves:
We pick a true 7-footer to pair with Love, Gay takes over the SF spot, and we develop Johnson(who Kahn allegedly wanted) off the bench.

For the Bulls:
They get the low-post threat that they've wanted forever, move Hinrich's 2010 money, and get a defender off the bench, but it costs Noah and Johnson.

For Memphis:
They swap Gasol for a better rebounder and defender in Noah and get some vet influence from Hinrich and Gomes that match better with the rest of the roster (Mayo and Randolph).

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Marko Jaric is the deal-breaker for wolves

I just think if we're giving up a guy who when healthy is a solid 20/10 guy plus a solid bench player and a prospect who still has some potential, we need to get at least one likely all-star. I could see it happening with Gay if he gets his head straight, but would anyone here bet money on that? Gasol would be nice but he doesn't solve our interior defense problems. I just think we could probably do better for Jefferson, especially when you consider how reasonable his contract is considering what he brings.

If we wanted the pieces(Gay and Gasol) in this deal, I would rather:
1)Sign Pekovic
2)Sign Gay to offer sheet in FA or S/T if MEM matches

All the while keeping Al Jefferson, Gomes, and Brewer.

Also I didnt notice til now that we were giving up a 2nd round pick. I am assuming that is our pick? That is an even bigger no from me because I am pretty sure we could find a James Johnson at the beginning of the 2nd round next year.

I think a 3 team trade with Chicago makes a lot of sense involving Al Jefferson and Hinrich (salary purposes). The question becomes who wants Hinrich? I am not sure many teams would and don't think Memphis is one of them.

As much as we want Al Jefferson, moving Noah to get him is counterproductive. He's the guy we've got to put NEXT to Jefferson, and we've got no way to get him once we trade him. Jefferson is very rare...but defensive Centers who aren't awful at basketball are too. Jefferson's better, but it's all pointless if they're not out there complimenting each other.

I'd actually want Noah next to Love, not Gasol.

Yeah, but you don't have anyone other than Rose you could offer for Jefferson who would fit our direction.

He didn't make a trade offer.

I totally understand you wouldn't anything not named Rose or Noah if Jefferson's leaving for Chicago. I don't blame you.

Just trade Al to Memphis for Gasol and change. Jefferson isn't ever going to be on a winning team with the way he competes.

Gasol and change? lmao Are you for real? Gasol is a MUCH better player than Al Jefferson. Hell I'm not even sure if Jefferson is as good as Randolph right now. He hasn't played better than Zach so far this season.

The Grizzlies don't need Jefferson at all. To trade Gasol for him is just absurd, and you actually want change too? lmao sure

If anyone on the Grizzlies is untouchable, it's Mayo and Gasol.

How about this trade with Chicago:

Noah
Miller(12.5m expiring)
Salmons

for

Jefferson
Blount(7.9m expiring)
Pavlovic

We need a decent sg and Salmons could fill that roll while Brewer moves to sf and we end up with Noah who would fit perfectly in this system next to Love.

We end up with:

Noah
Love
Brewer
Salmons
Flynn

Oh that's hilarious.
Let me know when Gasol has 20 points, 12 boads, and 1.7 blocks.

And you've lost all credibility in just one post. At least you were efficient.

Gasol actually has the potential to be better than Al Jefferson. Clearly he's not there yet though. Al was pretty darn dominant last year before his injury. When he's back to 100% we'll see. But that will be a while.
