Hey steve, I `m a huge bulls fan. Ben leaving did hurt us a lot. John isn`t playiong his best.We need a shooter, are the any free agents or trades available to my bulls? N0 ALLEN IVERSONxxxx

Steve Kyler:
Free agents... no, anyone worth having is on a roster... trades? maybe... as I mentioned this morning, I think the clock is ticking on Tyrus Thomas and maybe he's the guy that can return someone of substance. That said the Bulls plan to go after Dwyane Wade and Joe Johnson... so i doubt they trigger anything that messes up that plan. This may be the squad you have this season, and look add that next piece next summer.

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Detroit Pistons: Playing without Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, the Pistons have lost five games in a row and have sunk to the Eastern Conference's lower regions. Meanwhile, with or without Shaquille O'Neal, the Cavs continue their rise towards the top. Shaq is expected to return tonight.

Pistons and Allstate "Good Hands, Warm Hands" Mitten Drive
The 7th Annual Good Hands, Warm Hands Mitten Drive will run November 25th through December 31st and both the Pistons and Allstate are hoping to collect mittens and winter items for Orchard’s Children’s Services, the metro-Detroit foster care and adoption agency.

Items and cash donations will be accepted at The Palace of Auburn Hills at the West Atrium and Comcast Pavilion entrances. Fans that make a donation will receive a $2 Palace concession voucher and be entered to win a Pistons VIP Night - including tickets to a Pistons game, dinner in The Palace Grille and a Pistons prize pack. Fans who donate $5 or more to the Mitten Drive will receive free Allstate/Pistons gloves. Proceeds from the cash donations will go towards the purchase of additional winter gear for Orchards Children’s Services. Allstate has also partnered with The LEAGUE, a school and web based system for service learning, in challenging schools throughout Southeastern Michigan to help keep Michigan families warm this winter. Over a dozen Michigan schools are competing to collect items at their schools through December 16. The top three schools that collect the most items receive grants from Allstate in the amounts of $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. In addition, the top classroom in the winning school will receive tickets to the January 22nd Pistons game and be recognized for their accomplishment on the Pistons court.

Battier's MRI Reveals No Serious Injury
When Tracy McGrady went for his much-publicized MRI on Monday, he was not alone. Shane Battier also had an MRI to make sure there was not additional damage to his left foot.

With no injury found beyond soreness, Battier returned to practice on Tuesday and said he felt better after the day off.

“We had matching MRIs,” Battier said. “It was like a spa. We have side-by-side MRI machines. I was getting a manicure while they were looking at my ankle. Mac was getting a facial."

Ollie to Have MRI on Knee
Kevin Ollie, who missed Tuesday’s game at Utah with a sore right knee, will undergo an MRI exam today. Ollie said his knee has been troublesome for about three weeks, but the pain became unbearable in the first quarter of Sunday’s road loss against the Los Angeles Lakers when he attempted to challenge a shot by guard Jordan Farmar.

When I explode it hurts, but when I’m running it’s fine,” Ollie said. "That’s the frustrating thing. In basketball you have to jump. You can’t go out there and play cautious and whatnot. So I think I’m hurting myself and most importantly I think I’m hurting my team."

Marion, Dampier Remain Sidelined
Erick Dampier is not ready to resume playing, but he said he would make the three-game road trip that the Mavericks departed on Tuesday night. Dampier has been out since an undisclosed illness hospitalized him on Nov. 15. "He's been around the team now for several days and, as I've said, he's in good spirits and feeling real good," (Rick) Carlisle said. "I expect there will be some kind of announcement coming up at some point soon." ... Shawn Marion sat out his third game with a sore left ankle. He is questionable for tonight.

No Return Date Issued for Ginobili
It was one week ago that Spurs guard Manu Ginobili was declared out of the lineup for a week to 10 days with a mild strain of the left groin, but don't look for him in uniform when the Spurs play the Golden State Warriors tonight at the AT&T Center.

“Manu's out,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said before his team's Tuesday afternoon practice session. “He's doing workouts, doing what he needs to do to rehab it every day, so it's getting better every day, but it's going to take more time. When he's ready, he'll play.”

If the original timetable proves accurate, Ginobili should be back on the floor by week's end. The Spurs play the Rockets in Houston on Friday, nine days since Ginobili's diagnosis. They play the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday at the AT&T Center.

Shaquille O'Neal will not play vs. Pistons
Cleveland Cavaliers center Shaquille O’Neal is out for tonight's game against the Detroit Pistons with an injured shoulder, the sixth game in a row he will miss.

O’Neal hasn’t played since a Nov. 12 win over Miami. The Cavs are being cautious with O’Neal after acquiring him from Phoenix in an off-season trade. They are trying to keep him healthy the second half of the season and playoffs.

He hoped to play against the Pistons after practicing Monday. O’Neal has averaged 11.3 points and 6.9 rebounds in nine games.

Statistically Speaking: Charlie Villanueva needs to log more time in the paint
The scouting report on Charlie Villanueva was well established before the Detroit Pistons signed him to a five-year contract. On the offensive end he's what many label a stretch forward - a versatile scorer who can fill it up both inside and out. Villanueva's ability to score in a variety of ways from the power forward position isn't something new for Pistons fans. Rasheed Wallace had been doing the same things for the last six seasons before joining the Boston Celtics via free agency this past offseason. One of the main complaints about Wallace's play was that he was too perimeter-oriented. In his final season with the Pistons, over 44 percent of Wallace's field goal attempts came from beyond the arc. That rate has actually skyrocketed to the point of ridiculousness this season, but we've already had that discussion. Villanueva doesn't love the three ball to the degree that Wallace does, but early season numbers suggest he might love it more than he should. 14 games into this season, Villanueva is attempting 3.8 three-point shots a game, one more than his career average. The long guns account for 29 percent of his field goal attempts, six percent higher than his rate coming into the year.

These numbers may not seem like a big deal. After all, Villanueva's effective field goal percentage from behind the arc, a statistic that factors in the additional benefit of a three-point make, is 48.1 percent. Still a closer look at some numbers and the Pistons; needs could alter the way you view Villanueva's shot selection. First, it's important to note that Villanueva is an average three-point shooter. He's currently shooting 32.1 percentage, not far off his career average. The league average is 34.9 percent. The analysis can be narrowed further when you consider the average of forwards that play more than 25 minutes a game is 33.8 percent. Knowing that Villanueva isn't exceptional from outside is more difficult to digest when you realize how incredible he's played close to the basket this season. At the rim, Villanueva is shooting 77.0 percent and within ten feet of the basket he's shooting at a 65.0 percent clip. Compare those numbers to other power forwards around the league that are playing as many minutes as Villanueva. The average shooting percentage at rim among those players is 63.6 percent. Within ten feet they're shooting 46.6 percent. You can't argue with Villanueva's efficiency near the rim this season. Considering that the Pistons' guards continue to rely on one-on-one basketball in the half court, they need Villanueva to spend a little more time with his back to the basket and less time on the arc.

Two other benefits of having Villanueva down low are free throw attempts and offensive rebounds. He is a quality free throw shooter, averaging nearly 79 percent from the line for his career. It's a given that you'll draw more fouls playing in the paint as opposed to floating on the perimeter. As for the rebounds, Villanueva's numbers are down slightly overall, but that's not on the defensive end where he's averaging a career high 4.7 rebounds. Villanueva's dip has come on the offensive end, where he's grabbing less than one per game. Part of the lack of production in this area could be attributed to Ben Wallace and Jonas Jerebko's rebounding savy, but the other part of the decline comes from perimeter play taking Villanueva out of position to grab offensive rebounds. There's nothing wrong with being a stretch forward and shooting the occasional three-point shot. By having the weapon in his arsenal, Villanueva can keep his defender on his toes and open up space on the court for his teammates. But for all of these reasons discussed, Villanueva should focus on shifting his play a little more to the paint as this season progresses. For an additional visual, I've included the NBA.com's hotspots chart for Villanueva. It's a really fun application and I recommend you go check it out.

Giving Back, Big Time
From Pistons CEO Tom Wilson to veteran players like center Kwame Brown and guard Chucky Atkins, Tuesday’s food distribution event at Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit was a sight to behold. But they couldn’t look long. They were among the 300 volunteers loading boxes of food, personal care items and even turkeys into passing vehicles so that families in need could enjoy their own Thanksgiving meal. In addition to the food distribution event at Second Ebenezer Church, the Pistons organized two additional events that occurred simultaneously. All told, 8,000 families in need received some assistance to brighten their holiday season. “This is the largest single-day food drop ever in Michigan, and we’re really proud to have been a part of this,” Wilson said. “It’s really fun and it’s great to see some smiling faces for the holidays.”Tuesday's happenings were funded by the Pistons Care Telethon, which raised more than $450,000 for the nonprofit group Feed The Children last March. “As much as we may have facilitated this, a big pat on the back goes to the thousands of people in this city that contributed to help make this possible,” Wilson said. The Pistons and Feed The Children have partnered with dozens of nonprofit agencies and food banks to host similar events throughout the state since last spring. Thirty semi-trailers full of food and supplies had been distributed over the past seven months. To put Tuesday’s event in perspective, the Pistons and Feed the Children unloaded an additional 20 semi-trailers in just four hours.

Fifteen were distributed at the events while another five went to Detroit food banks. The partnering agencies with Tuesday's events were Gleaners’ Food Bank, Vanguard Community Development Corporation, Brightmoor Alliance and Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Michigan. “I haven’t seen anything like this,” Brown said. “The Pistons, some teams they do it once a year, but the Pistons are consistent with always giving back during every holiday." Brown added to the event out of his own pocket, as did Ben Gordon. The two Pistons players teamed up with Meijer to donate 400 turkeys, which families received at the end of the distribution line - sometimes from Brown himself. "It makes you feel great, it makes you feel thankful for what you have,” Brown said. “Just gives you a humbleness to know you’re that much more blessed. It’s always good to give back during the holidays." Brown, Wilson and Pistons majority owner Karen Davidson delivered the turkeys to families as they drove through the church parking lot. Gordon, with a case of the sniffles, was unable to attend, but Chucky Atkins, Jason Maxiell and rookies Austin Daye and DaJuan Summers were on hand to load boxes into cars. “To see people look at him and say, this is Kwame Brown giving me my food - it’s a thrill for them and you see the faces light up as they pull up,” Wilson said. “That’s a great thing.”

Atkins, who spent three and a half seasons with the Pistons from 2000-04, said he’s noticed a greater emphasis on community involvement since he rejoined the team this summer. Under the circumstances, he’s all for it. “When I was here before, we did certain things but never to this magnitude,” Atkins said. “Right now is definitely a time to be giving, not simply because of the holidays but you’re living in a bad situation as far as the economy so people need a little extra help, a little extra boost. I think it’s up to the Pistons, and people who have, to provide that to other people who need it.” The Pistons aren’t done yet. They plan to conduct even more food distribution events around Christmastime, bringing their total of Feed The Children truck deliveries to 64 by January. “I think we’re very lucky that people listen to athletes,” Wilson said. “We should be listening to teachers, we should be listening to parents, but as long as athletes have a voice … then it’s our responsibility to give positive messages and support the people in this community as often as we possibly can.”

Daye to Give Thanks
Austin Daye isn’t the most well known player on the Pistons roster, but if the rookie forward keeps up his community appearances, he will be. Since returning from the team’s exhausting West Coast trip on Monday morning, Daye has gone all-out to help Detroit’s less fortunate this holiday season.Monday evening Daye helped serve hot meals at the 13th Annual “Thanksgiving for the Homeless and Needy” event in Pontiac, and the next day volunteered at the Pistons’ Feed The Children food delivery at Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit. “Especially in Detroit right now, [people] need a pick-me-up,” Daye said. “I want to help out as many people as I can while I’m here and do a good service.”

Daye received an enthusiastic welcome Monday at Center Stage Rental Hall before throwing on an apron and gloves to help serve food. After some time on the serving line, Daye took pictures and spent time with families as they ate. “A lot of people in life, when you’re already homeless or needy and you might feel like you’re down, you need to have a win every now and then. To a lot of people, this is like a great big win,” said Dave Coleman, founder of Quest to Make a Change, which hosts the annual Thanksgiving meal. “To be this close to experience the Pistons… it’s just so encouraging to all of us.” Coleman’s son, Steve, is a member of The Palace Patrol, one of the many groups from The Palace that had volunteers at both events Monday and Tuesday. Getting to know members of The Palace and Pistons organization has been one of the perks for Daye. He spent Tuesday afternoon with several Palace employees loading cars with boxes of food and personal care items. “It’s fun just to come and interact with people, especially people from your own staff,” he said. “It’s good to be around and I know the people [in need] appreciate it.”

Kathleen Jenkins and her daughter were among the homeless who gathered for the Thanksgiving meal in Pontiac. Although faced with tough circumstances, Jenkins was all smiles and extremely grateful to have the Pistons and Austin’s support. “To have somebody come out and look out for us, it’s a great thing," she said. The soft-spoken Daye doesn’t mind being “somebody.” Though he hopes to soon be recognized for his play on the court, he’s not looking for credit when he volunteers. “It’s not about that, I’m not worried about that,” he said. “It’s about coming out here to do what I can to help the community. And it’s just even better when people know who you are.”

The Pistons vs. The Cavaliers
The 5-9 Pistons are finally home from their not so wonderful West coast to play their first game back on their home court they get to face the 10-4 Cleveland Cavaliers.

With Tayshaun out, Jonas gets the task of guarding LeBron.
“You can’t do much on that fadeaway, Jerebko shrugged after Tuesday’s practice, the first for the Pistons at their practice facility in 11 days. He’s the best player in the league Everybody’s seen LeBron – he’s a great player. I’ll just try to do the best job I can on him.”
As for nod to DaJuan who looks to have moved past Austin Daye in the rotation, Kuester says we shouldn’t look too much into it.
“Chris Wilcox and all of our young players have worked real hard in practice and deserve an opportunity,” he said. “We just gave Chris an opportunity the last two games, but Kwame is a big part of this picture we have. And so don’t read into that. Same thing (with Daye and Summers). Don’t read into that because all these guys deserve an opportunity.” via Pistons.com

As for Shaq, he will not play tonight against Detroit. The Scouting Report via Pistons.com. Tip is at 8:00 pm EST and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit. For the radio broadcast tune into 950 AM or follow the action on NBA.com. For those of you who missed the chat room, it’s back! You can again talk Pistons during the games.

Central Division rivals tangle as Pistons host Cavs
Two teams on opposite ends of the Central Division spectrum collide tonight at The Palace of Auburn Hills, where the Cleveland Cavaliers will pay a visit to the homestanding Detroit Pistons. The division-leading Cavaliers are five games ahead of the last-place Pistons and have won two straight and seven of eight games, including Saturday's 97-91 triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers. Superstar LeBron James led the way with 32 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, and Mo Williams added 18 points, eight boards and five assists for Cleveland. J.J. Hickson and Zydrunas Ilgauskas netted 14 and 13 points, respectively, in a winning effort. "Andy (Varejao) and [Zydrunas Ilgauskas] did a nice job starting us off on the defensive end of the floor, and then Mo [Williams] hit some big shots," Cavs head coach Mike Brown said. "Everyone was on a string. Everyone helped one another and trusted one another. It was great to see." Cleveland will also visit Charlotte on the road trip and is 5-2 as the guest this season. It is hoping that newcomer Shaquille O'Neal can make a healthy return to the floor Wednesday after missing the past five games with a shoulder injury. The team went 4-1 without O'Neal, who is averaging 11.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest this season.

Detroit will open a three-game homestand on a sour note, as it has dropped five straight and went 0-4 on a recent road trip out west. In Sunday's 117-91 loss at Phoenix, Charlie Villanueva and DaJuan Summers each had 13 points for the Pistons, who continue to play without Richard Hamilton (ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (back). Ben Gordon had 10 points in a losing effort. "This is probably the most up-tempo team in the league," Gordon said of the Suns. "We knew that coming in. It's tough on any night, but especially on the last game of a road trip. With a back-to-back it's not going to be easy. They came out and did what they're supposed to do, and I thought we lacked energy on the defensive end."

The Pistons will also host the Clippers and Hawks on the residency and are 3-2 at The Palace this season.Cleveland took three of four matchups with Detroit a year ago and has won the last three in the series. The Pistons, however, are 13-3 in the past 16 meetings as the host.

Summers making the most of minutes
The Pistons went 0-4 on their recent West Coast road trip, but one positive that came out of the trip was the emergence of rookie DaJuan Summers. Summers found a spot in the rotation on the trip after spending most of the first 10 games on the bench. Summers averaged 14.5 minutes in the four West Coast games after playing a total of 15 minutes in Detroit’s first 10 games. The second round pick out of Georgetown played 23 minutes in the Pistons last game, a loss at Phoenix, scoring a career-high 13 points and he was a perfect 3 for 3 on his 3-point attempts.

Summers said his confidence was never down when he wasn’t playing, he was just working hard so he would be ready if an opportunity to play came his way.“I know the season is a long season. I knew the opportunity would come, hopefully sooner than later, which it did,” Summers said. “My confidence was always good. I think I had a good summer league so it wasn’t like I was low on confidence. The opportunity just didn’t present itself yet.”

Summers said he believes taking his time has helped him improve since the preseason. Summers minutes were limited even in the preseason so when he did get out on the floor he was anxious and more prone to making mistakes. Now he has slowed down and as a result became more comfortable out on the floor. “When I was getting minutes in the preseason, the little minutes they were, I was rushing things, I was moving too quick, I wasn’t letting the game come to me,” Summers said. “But now I just play relaxed. I’m more comfortable with my role, knowing where my shot is going to come from, know when to takes shots, when it’s a good shot for me. I’m just being relaxed.”

Cavs Blog: Fear the Sword
TV: Fox Sports Detroit Radio: 97.1 The Fan
Probable starters:
Mo Williams PG Rodney Stuckey
Anthony Parker
SG Ben Gordon
Lebron James
SF Jonas Jerebko
J.J. Hickson PF Charlie Villanueva
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
C Ben Wallace

Pistons probably have the same feelings I do right now -- it's good to be home. Detroit returns to the Palace after their woeful west coast trip ended in an unceremonious spanking in Phoenix. I'm home for some grub with the family. But for the Pistons it's like returning home to see their nemesis standing in the kitchen talking to mom, eating the always delicious brownies she made. The Cavs are that unwelcome homecoming guest. The Pistons will have to do their best to send Cleveland back to, well, Cleveland, so we can have a Happy Thanksgiving in Detroit this year. It won't be easy. Jonas Jerebko will have the daunting task of stopping LBJ (with a little help from his friends). Luckily for the Pistons, Lebron won't have the help of Shaquille O'Neal tonight, as he's set to miss his sixth straight game.

As for the Pistons, hopefully they can get Charlie Villanueva going early and often (and preferably in the paint). I'd also like to see Stuckey rebound from his dreadful west coast trip and either a) start knocking down some of the shots he takes near the basket or b) dishing it off to open teammates. For more, here is the scouting report via Pistons.com. Tip off is at 8 PM EST. Hopefully, you'll join the game thread if you'll be around a computer (although we're also available via your mobile device as long as you get internet). If you're out enjoying TBBNOTY, be safe and check in after the game with your thoughts. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone (even if you aren't a Pistons fan).

Cavaliers @ Pistons Game
Game tips at 8:00 pm ET
NBA TV
Cleveland: 10-4 (5-2 road)
Margin: +4.1
Pistons: 5-9 (3-2 home)
Margin:-2.1
Oppo research
The Cavaliers are off to a relatively slow start, as the Shaquille O’Neal experiment appears to be extracting a predictable toll on the regular season win count. The drop in production almost entirely derives from the center position, as Big Z has responded poorly (physically) to a bench role.Ilgauskas has long been Cleveland’s second best player. His size and versatility are valuable at both ends of the court, and the Cavaliers have dropped to ninth in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Worse, the Cavs are presently relying on an untenable consistency from long range. They are shooting 44% from three point land, while holding opponents to a paltry 30%. Without Shaq yet again, the Cavs will be forced to rely on the outside game yet again. Oh, and LeBron James, who is somehow managing to improve upon last year’s production. I suppose he factors into their offense, tangentially.

The Drama:
It’s hard to call it a rivalry at this point, but tonight represents a good chance to sneak in a win and reverse the course of the last five games. Also, OMGZLEBRONSPECULATIONWILLHEORWONTHENEWYOOOOOOOORK!!!!!

Keys for Detroit
Manage something from the three point range: The Pistons are shooting 31% from the three point line. For a team that generates most of it’s offense from the guard positions, that’s horrendous.
Stop LeBron: I don’t understand why more teams don’t try to do this. I should be coach.
Get physical: With Big Z performing poorly and Shaq out for a sixth straight game, there is a good chance to get the inside game going. Of course, that prompts a question…
Question of the Game
What inside game? Nobody thought Detroit would dominate the paint, but this is ridiculous. Even Maxiell is having a terrible season.

22. Pistons (5-9) | Prev.: 19
Detroit had no chance in Phoenix after taking the Jazz to overtime the night before, but they have some nice pieces in place. Jonas Jerebko is more than serviceable, Will Bynum is outplaying Rodney Stuckey, and DaJuan Summers has some serious range. Now, if they could only stop relying so heavily on Ben Gordon offensively -- and/or get Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince back on the court sometime soon -- maybe they'd have a fighting chance.
