Post Your Best Halladay Deal

Post#1 » by jalenrose#5 » Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:22 am

This is for all you fantasy guys, well sort of. Propose what you think is the best trade for Roy Halladay the Jays could ask for.

Here's mine (Sign and Trade)

Toronto Trades: extended Roy Halladay, prospect 3B Kevin Ahrens
LA Dodgers trade: Chad Billingsley, Russell Martin Two prospects (Needs are a five tool OF, C, SP, RP, 1B, 3B)

SS Scutaro (signed)
2B Hill
LF Lind
DH Ruiz
CF Wells
C Martin
1B Overbay
3B E5/Phillips possibility?
RF Snider

SP: Billingsley, Marcum, McGowan (healthy?), Romero, Cecil, Litsch/Zep/Richmond/Purcey etc

Also, with rumors swirling of Overbay being shipped out (Mariners, Mets) and Brandon Phillips coming in to play 3rd, things wouldn't stop there. Maybe Overbay for RP Philliipe Aumont is an idea? If that happens, I'd look into getting Bay at all costs and moving Lind to first or Ruiz, just an idea. That lineup would be pretty potent.

Hughes, Montero, Brett Gardner, Zack McAllister and perhaps a low-minors flier for Halladay and Downs. New York's farm system is fairly barren when it comes to position players, but this would give us a useful CF who can shift Wells to right (and Lind to 1B), two good pitchers (one ML ready, one close to it) and a tremendous prospect in Montero. Downs becomes their set-up guy and second lefty alongside Coke.

Jays Contact Cubs about Doc

SS Castro and 3B Josh Vitters are the main prospect compenents supposedly...another pretty solid potential deal too.

EDIT: Milton Bradley is part of the package, but supposedly the Jays don't want him, thank god.

Doc and Downs to Colorado for Carlos Gonzalez, Christian Friedrich, and Ian Stewart.

Gonzalez is a rising star who could move into CF
Friedrich is their top pitching prospect
Ian Stewart is a 2B/3B who would play whichever position Hill doesn't

This is the kind of package I'd be looking for. Established players and/or top prospects. That may be too much in this age of teams over-valuing prospects, but too bad, this is Roy F. Halladay.

This thread should have what rumour you've heard is the "Best Halladay deal" with link to the page you see the rumour at. Out of the ones I've just read, the one most plausible is Schadenfreude's, and wouldn't mind that deal at all. Montero is going to be a future stud - whether at C or at 1B/DH.

It'd be nice to package Wells with Halladay wherever he goes. If that means sacrificing some of the return, I'm all for it.

If by sacrificing some of the return you mean all of it and maybe giving them Hill and Downs as well then fine. I'm not even sure I'm against such an idea 'cause I just don't see anything positive happening with the Jays 'til Vdub is gone, but don't kid yourself about how negative Wells' deal would be in a transaction. I don't think Roy's value on his own counteracts Wells and I don't think you could get any such deal done at all because of the dollars it would require. The Yankees, Sox, and Mets are probably the only teams with the budgets to even consider it and there's no chance NYY or BOS are desparate enough for Roy to add Wells' contract on top of an extension, they'll just go after the next guy on their list if that's the price.

If there was a chance to do this, I might even be inclined to agree, but you can't move Wells with another big ticket guy, because the salaries are too difficult. You might get someone to bite with Snider/Lind types and you eat a fair chunk of his deal, but it won't be Roy that helps move Vdub.

Back to the topic, my favorite is getting Castro and Vitters from the Cubs, although I haven't heard any rumour that included both yet. It's just my pipe dream of the realistic clubs.

Not that it would ever happen but the Twins system is stocked with OFs and SPs, and they have one of the top Catcher prospects in Wilson Ramos who is blocked by Mauer. And Minny could sure use a #1 with a playoff caliber team heading into a new stadium.

I'd seriously do that. At this point I don't care if we get nothing for Halladay as long as Wells goes and we don't have to pay any part of his contract.

What about a deal where we give Halladay and Wells and take back JD Drew? He makes 14 mil the next two years, but that's nothing compared to Wells.

Dec19, 2006

TORONTO, Canada -- Vernon Wells has signed a seven-year $126 million contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays, the sixth richest deal in MLB history.

Wells, 28, does not have a deal with a standard contract structure. He will earn a salary of $500,000 in 2008 and $1.5 million in 2009 but he also gets a $25.5 million signing bonus payable in three installments on March 1 in 2008, 2009 and 2010

His salary climbs to $12.5 million in 2010.

He will earn $23 million in 2011 and the final three seasons will pay him $21 million annually, although he can opt out of the deal after the fourth year. The contract is designed to give the Blue Jays room to manoeuvre with their payroll.

I wonder what the Red Sox would give up for the Halladay/Wells package? Obviously not as much as RH on his own but still, this would be worth looking into. Especially is Bay leaves Boston.

Anyways, for Halladay on his own, Boston is still the team. They're the guys that will overpay to get him and they have the strong farm system to pluck. Bucholz would be the centerpiece.

JP gave Vernon the standard 'I'll let the next GM deal with the back end mess' extension.

It would be a dream if they wanted Wells. Who's to say that they wouldn't though. They could see it like the Beckett/Lowell deal that netted them a couple of WS. Of course, Vernon would have a rebirth playing LF in Fenway and peppering the monster everyday. If only we could get our own Hanley out of the deal...
