Just a thought on a trade
I was just thinking and I don't know how "ideal" this would be for either team but I just thought it would be a really good idea... I'm a firm believer that this team is better off without Kevin Martin for various reasons (yea he's a great scorer but we play a lot more like a TEAM without him). I was thinking about a trade that goes a little something like this:
Kings get:
Caron Butler
Wizards get:
Kevin Martin
Maybe a few fillers here and there or picks, but I really like Nick Young and Javaris Crittenton from the Wizards so it would be cool if we could get one of them in the deal.
Kings:
Hawes
Thompnson
Butler
Evans
Udrih
Wizards:
Haywood
Jamison
Miller
Martin
Arenas
I really think this would make both teams better... what do you think?

Butler is too old (29) to be apart of our rebuilding process. If he was 24-25, then yes, but what's the point of having him when we'll probably hit our prime in 2-3 years?

Yuck...Older, worse and plays a position that half our roster already plays. NO!

Re: Just a thought on a trade
I'd do it if we're certain Kevin won't be a part of the future for the long run! We'd save some money on the deal. We'd get equal value and a two year shorter deal. I like it, but I don't see the purpose for Washington. Kevin isn't playing for another six weeks.

Kevin is 27...so he could be considered too old as well? I don't think the deal is all that attractive as far as acquiring Butler, but as a way to save $$$ if we are in a post Martin era it's a great deal.

Re: Just a thought on a trade
well yea that is the main purpose because butler's deal expires 2 years before kevin. plus kev is too injury prone, i think we all should agree on that by now.

Re: Just a thought on a trade
Right now, Martin is 26 years old. Not 27. (But he is going to be 27 in Feb. though).
And Butler is 29 years old. But he will be 30 years old on March.
So, yes, the age difference is huge in this comparison. Butler will break the 30 year mark within 4 months. And Martin will break it in over 3 years.
...
And for the deal, I don't like it. as others said, Butler is too old (will be the oldest once Kenny Thomas is traded or expires) and I don't think adding Butler is a correct move to do anyways.

I'd do it for much the same reasons as ICMTM, and I think that's good value for an injury prone chucker.

Re: Just a thought on a trade
I disagree your notion that Martin is a chucker.
Yes, he is averaging 22 shots per game this year (but only a five game sample and I think that can be ruled out as an anomaly due to obvious reasons). And yes, last year, he had the most isolation based style of his career too (and I think this has been cleared up in the other thread anyways).
Other than last year, Martin is the best moving w/o the ball in this league. He plays so well without having the ball in this hand. I'm baffled why people forget this. Martin is still an elite off the ball scorer. He still has the ability to score off the ball. And we know that this is the most effective style he can be.

If you don't like injury prone chuckers exactly why would you trade for Butler?

Straight up? No, I wouldn't touch that deal. I would consider an expanded deal however.
Sac trades:
Martin/Thompson or Hawes
Was trades:
Butler/Haywood/2010 1st rounder top 5 protection
Could be a good combo IMO. Heck, start Brockman at PF and just run the ball through Beno/Evans/Butler and be a more defense/rugged offensive team. That team would certainly dominate the boards.
PG: Beno/Sergio
SG: Evans/Garcia
SF: Butler/Casspi/Greene
PF: Brockman/Greene
C: Haywood/Hawes or Thompson

Re: Just a thought on a trade
I'm really not all that excited about anyone on the Wizards' roster outside of Arenas (if he's healthy). I would consider this for the reasons ICMTM stated, but the key to that theory is that Martin would have to be declared as not a part of the future. I don't think that's the case now or will be the case for a while. Also, if Martin were to become no longer part of the future, I would much rather move him for a young, skilled PF/C who can beef up the paint...preferable one with a defensive mentality.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Heck no. Not a huge fan of Butler, and I certainly wouldn't trade any combination of martin and thompson for him and hayward.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.
That just happened.

if Martin and Thompson or Hawes are involved, I'd rather get Bosh back.
Martin, Hawes, Thomas, top 5 protected 1st rounder for Bosh, DeRozan and O'Bryant

Re: Just a thought on a trade
LOL. Just look around the boards people! Nobody values Martin particularly high. They see what I see- a crippled chucker. Yea he scores a lot, but only for half the season and then he gets paid 10 million/year to rot on the inactive list. Not great value. If you think you're going to get a franchise-player like Bosh for him, then you have no right to laugh at me.
I'm willing to wait and see how the Martin/Evans combo works, but patience only goes so far. If it doesn't work or if Martin gets injured again, his ass is outta here and I really don't care what comes back.

This is just soooo irrational.
And yeah, of course people aren't going to highly value Kevin when he's injured. That tends to hurt a players value.

And again, Kevin is not a chucker. Most of his career very clearly backs this up.

How so? If you have damaged goods, you get rid of them. What kind of fuzzy math are you using?

I'm glad you agree, and would you also agree that some here are overvaluing him then? It IS his third consecutive injury-plagued season, and until he can remain consistently healthy (which might take awhile to prove), his value will remain typical to that of an injured player.
And again, Kevin is not a chucker. Most of his career very clearly backs this up.
His recent career and statements made by him backs up my argument. He WANTS to be more aggressive, and with the last two seasons, that has been the case.
Again, I'm willing to wait and see until we have an idea of what the future holds. Maybe Westphal can get him to play nice with the rest of the team. I don't know.
