Suns were outrebounded by 20 in yesterdays game?

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Fri Nov 27, 2009 12:15 am

Correct me if I'm wrong but yesterday when I was looking at the boxscores were the Suns really outrebounded by 20, 29-49 against the Grizzlies?

Mind you the Suns shot almost 62% in the game which is good but being outrebounded by 20 is just insane. They had I think it was 10 extra shots and basically 20 extra points. If the Suns didn't shoot 62% for the game would they really have won it?

Is anyone else worried? Cause when their offense isn't clicking and they get outrebounded by that much it would be difficult to win...

I'm sure if the Suns were in a close game they'd have grinded it out with the Grizzlies and rebounded better.

15 of those 20 were offensive rebounds. We didn't have a great rebounding game, but because we didn't miss, we only had 7 offensive boards.

This isn't complicated.

If we'd been out-rebounded on defensive rebounds by 20, we wouldn't have won.

At the beginning of the season I was encouraged by our rebounding. I have always said, it is lack of rebounding, not defense, that kept run and gun from working. Lately we have been out rebounded badly. It is a problem. Luckily I expect Lopez to get into playing 10-12 minutes a game which I think is worth 5 rebounds. The key here is amare. Everyone else is doing a good job. Amare needs to pick it up. He has got his fouls in check. And unlike a lot of you believe, he is playing much better team defense. If Amare gets 3-4 more rebounds a game and lopez can get 5 rebounds a game, we're going to the finals. Yeah I said it.

The Grizzlies are a very good rebounding team. They are 4th in the league in total rebounds and 1st in rebounding differential. We on the other hand are a -1 in rebounding differential, which isn't bad considering we were suppose to be KILLED on the boards EVERY NIGHT if we go by our roster. We're actually grabbing the exact same amount of boards as we were last season but we are giving up almost 2 boards more, but that is probably from the loss of Shaq's boxing out.

Every team has games like this where we get outrebounded by a lot.On the bright side, in sacrificing a bit of rebounding now and then, we're shooting better, we have better spacing and Amare and Nash are free to do what they want in the paint now that Shaq's gone.

I was at the game. We weren't even trying to rebound. Randolph had more than 10 offensive boards if i can remember correctly.

I believe rebounding was the reason we got routed by the lowly Grizzs. :(

Thank you, finally somebody brought this to center attention.

I mentioned this at the game thread, but went unnoticed.

Look. If you guys are true Suns fans, you'd be damn concerned. I am.

Amare and Frye not rebounding is getting way out of hand. You're not gonna be shooting over 62% each night and you're not gonna have Dragic, Rich, and Hill bring down 6 rebounds each person each night all the time.

Suns better get their act together in the rebounding category or else they gonna plummet down out of the playoffs because of it.

It is incredible how mediocre big men look like magical superheros against the Suns. Mind boggling. Way out of hand....

At this point, I'd even start Collins at PF and Lopez at C. They'll get the job done. Will teach Amare and Frye a lesson on the bench.

And secondly, I DO remember Amare averaging 8 to 10 rebounds (I think it was 9 and change) for a few seasons many years so.

So the guy CAN rebound as he used to pull down loads of boards in the early D'Antoni years.

Anyone care to reason why his rebounding is constantly going down all of a sudden?

You only look at stats and make conclusions based on that. Yes, Amare had good reb. number, but he did it with pure athletism and neglecting his duty to box out his own man. Trust me, you don't want that high NUMBER then better than his low NUMBER now. If you free him from boxing out duties, he'd be back at that high number again.

Actually, you should be thankful for his willingness to learn the fundamental and sacrifice his own NUMBER, in a contract year no less. If we lost games because of his lack of rebounding NUMBER, then we can talk again.

Denial made a good point, back there. Can't remember what it was, but I remember thinking, "Damn straight."

Oh, wait a minute ...

Ahhh, now I got it. Amar'e is playing better defense, he said, and in fact he's right. He's also defending the pick and roll better, doing better with help defense. No, he's not great or even much better than adequate but that's still an improvement.
As Denial also said, giving up that many 2nd chances is a recipe for disaster but RoLo should address the defensive rebounding inequity. It's the offensive boards that trouble me - it's really just Lou and Duds going after them, and neither of them start the game. In that respect, we have to shoot well, or else.

Talk about bringing up the obvious. . . We know we have rebounding issues, it didn't need you to remind us.

It's unfortunate but our "big men" just can't rebound. They either don't have the IQ or the physique to be good rebounders, that's why we have to gang rebound to reduce 2nd chance points. Sure it kills our fast break sometimes, but we're a better half court team now so it's not a big deal.

Againts "good" teams, a 20 rebound advantage to them is a 30 point lost to the Suns.

But against "bad" teams its redundant, except Suns just keep the game closer than they should.

Stoudemire and Frye combine for around 12-13 rebounds... which is about Dwight Howard/Joakim Noah Territory.
