Jazz need more speed.

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:42 pm

Seems to be the conclusion I've drawn at this point in the season. We seem to be losing to quick, young teams while we do better against older, slower teams.

I don't know that we need a huge roster shake up, but, we need the ability to match up with quicker teams somehow. Maybe we could experiment with an AK as center lineup?

Price
Williams
Miles
Milsap
AK

You wouldn't want that lineup very often, but, when we're getting run off the floor I wonder if it wouldn't be quick enough to line up with about anyone and have enough shooting to stay offensively potent. Of course that is including Miles who we don't have right now. You could put Brewer or Mathews in there instead, but, it seemed like CJ would be a better fit.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

It wouldnt matter, we would still play more halfcourt than open court. Sloan is always trying to get DWillturnovertheball to push it, but he rarely does.

Lakers, celtics, cavs dont appear to be a speed team and they are doing well.

This team really needs an injection of heart. At the end of a home loss to a medicocre Okl City team Deron is laughing and joking on the bench. I think I'll vote for Chris Paul for the all star game.

Ronnie Price isn't the answer.

I really think lack of outside shooting is a bigger problem than speed....... When we get Miles and Korver back we will be a much better team....... Brewer and Matthews just aren't cutting it, Brewer particularly, he really hasn't improved his shot since his second year....... Deron is not shooting well from the outside, and AK, although shooting much better this year, is still just not a threat....... We need more spacing on offense, and Korver and Miles are going to provide that.......

We also need to start guarding people on the perimeter, the "Jerry Sloan" way of playing defense, allowing everybody to shoot wide open outside shots just isn't working out....... And hasn't been for quiet a few years........

Williams doesn't push the ball too often just because he's not very good handling up tempo basketball. This is one of his BIG flaws, and it's probably the most glaring one (yes, even more glaring that turnovers).
And if someone fails to see it it's just because it's too painfull to assume.... Deron Williams has not bettered himself in any aspect of his game since his NBA arrival. That's it. And it´s most probably Jazz organization fault for they let Williams know almost from the beggining that he'll be a max dude no matter what.

Sorry, that's the way it is.

Considering the fastest player on the team is our un-drafted rookie Wesley Matthews...I would say that you hit one of the major problems with this team right on the head.

One thing I don't understand is that Matthews has been pretty good from outside this season. Why don't they use that more? If he gets his shot going AND is a threat to take the ball to the hoop, then you have a lot fewer problems on this team. It's like they have ignored that.

We need our shooters ont he team to space the floor. Once KYle and CJ get back into a groove on this team if were still struggling, then we can look at shacking things up. But not now too early.

Let's remove Speedy, AK and NY #1 from this deal and add Okur. How does it sound?

I thought Deron took a huge jump to start his 2nd year. PLus it's allready been noted his rebounding is improved this year. I think his FT% has improved over the years as well.

He's gotten quite a bit better since his first year.

in 07/08, he led the most efficient offense in the league, which included 5 double-digit scorers and 8 8+ point scorers (go ahead and look at how frequently that's happened in NBA history). He did this while averaging about 19 and 11 on .500 .400 .800 shooting and playing solid D. He turned it up even more in the playoffs that year. If anyone can honestly claim that he was that good his first two seasons, they should have their heads checked.

The last season plus has been a disappointment, but in my opinion, much of that is due to the injury he suffered last preseason. With that said, he has improved in at least a couple areas since 07/08. While still not a strength, Deron has gotten better at running the fastbreak. He's also shown an increased ability and willingness to make more difficult passes AND start breaks with (long) outlet passes.

He's struggling right now, but he'll be fine.

Thank you, very instructive. Nice to see people showing by example what they're talking about.

What possibilities do we have with trading boozer? Would we want a guy who can score and take some of the pressure off of D-Will? Or do we want a big for a big? I'm not one to come up with a formidable trade but I would love to see Rashard Lewis in a Jazz jersey. The dude brings hustle and has a great outside shot. On the other side, I know he has a crazy big contract and with him it might screw up our lineup.

Shard has the 8th highest salary in the NBA according the hoopshype signed on thru 2011 with a TE on 2012, no way the jazz go for that.

Shard's contract is way too ridiculous for this team. We could trade Boozer for just about anything because we can fill any position with the 2010 draft pick. Kevin Martin is a very efficient scorer on a reasonable contract that would strive in Sloan's system but he doesn't help our defense at all. I'd also be interested in Horford because he could play the 4 or 5 and is a solid defensive anchor with some attitude. I don't know what his contract is like though.
