Why are teams shooting so well against us?

Post#1 » by SLCceltic » Sat Nov 28, 2009 12:30 am

Its something that Ive been noticing all season in every game. The opposition shoots an incredibly high % against us from 20' to 3pt range and/or someone from the opposition has a career type game.

This is a huge reason why we are losing (or barely winning vs inferior opponents). Everybody is shooting lights out against us and I just dont get it. I dont have time to pull up the actual stats, but I've seen every game and the opposition always shoots good to great from the outside.

90% of these shots are closely contested, so why?

Are the other guys giving their all in prepararing to play us?? WTH!! I dont get it :banghead:

This incredible shooting and our terrible shooting cant go on much longer. Thoughts??

The only thing I can think of, is that while the shots are contested, the rotations are coming half a step slow. In the NBA, that's all the time in the world.

A hand full of NBA execs have said that the Celtics look a step slower this season.

Its not just because sometimes shooters are open, its more psychological IMO. Celtics are among the favorites and also the biggest trashtalkers, other teams WANTS to punish Cs and give all they have. Paint is usually pretty well protected, so they shoot lights out from 3pt.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?

Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.

Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

We've been lazy on rotations. It's all about effort and we've been only doing it in spurts (3rd quarter last night). We tend to pack 'em in, often missing long range shooters. Interior D has been very solid so far but exterior - where it takes moving your feet and running around more - has been inconsistent.

I've pondered this since the Phoenix game.

It seems that teams know they have to shoot a high FG % to be able to win against the Celtics.

Players set their feet, and seem to just shoot with ease.
Instead of the bricking they do the rest of the week.

The Celtics were simply outshot by Phoenix, Atlanta and Indiana.
Orlando the Celtics played bad, and still were within 5 with only a short time left.

Overall, as good as the Celtics have shot from 2 point land,
KG is down (compared to career),
Ray Allen is WAY UP on overall FG% but doing doing poorly from 3,
which means Ray is shooting the lights out from 2 point land.
Eddie is lame from 2, but still brilliant from 3, and Rasheed is wheezing from everywhere.
Hopefully KG gets it back to around 56%, which is around is norm,
Ray gets his 3 point shot back,
Rasheed figures out a game in the post and from mid-range so he's not just a 3 point chucker,
and hopefully Eddie learns how to make 2 point shots with relative ease again.

I'm 92% sure that 47% of the numbers posted on Realgm are 64% false
