2nd hurdle....

BY SERENA NG AND MATTHEW FUTTERMAN
As the long-running legal battle over the Atlantic Yards nears an end, developers of the New Jersey Nets' Brooklyn arena project are gearing up for their next big challenge -- selling the development to a skeptical bond market.

Right now, the planned sale of as much as $700 million in bonds to finance the project's centerpiece -- a $900 million basketball arena to be called the Barclays Center -- looks like a toss-up. The U.S. municipal-bond market, while in much better shape than six months ago, has been in a rout since the start of October.

The new owner getting in with Jigga to get close to Bron.
If Bron comes Jay gets a bonus as part owner plus he gets to use Bron to market his clothes/record label.

Prokhorov could stay if Brooklyn move fails.

Looks like the issuance of bonds will be approved next week.

This doesn't mean that any will be sold until after the eminent domain case is concluded.

I begining to get nervous. More lawsuits and no decision yet. Critics are just stalling now with this BS and I'm begining to think they might succeed.

New York’s top court ruled Tuesday that the state can use eminent domain to force homeowners and businesses to sell their properties for a massive development in Brooklyn that includes a new arena for the New Jersey Nets.

In a 6-1 ruling Tuesday, the Court of Appeals said the Empire State Development Corp.’s finding that the area was blighted was enough to justify taking the land.

December 1st, 2009 these bonds will be on the market. I figure they'll be quickly grabbed up. This is going to be one of the biggest projects to date, especially with the Billionaire Russian backing it up as a secured investment. Plus, marketing the team as the Brooklyn Nets will be HUGE!! The team is going to easily double in value once the arena is completed. It'll be a Forbes Top 5 NBA Franchise in terms of actual value.

Sounds more realistic that 2012-2013 is when the Nets will be in Brooklyn.

Easy buddy.

They share the same city with the Knicks. It doesn't mean they will be a top 5 franchise at all.

You want an example of a major city that has two teams with one being a failure, and the other being the name of the city? Check your Clippers out for that answer.

Yeha but the Knicks aren't the Lakers so thats not a good example. Look if the Nets put a winning team on the floor they're gonna fill that stadium and their value will increase. Probably not into the top 5 but maybe top 10.

^Told you earlier on this page how big this is.

The Brooklyn Nets are going to be a Top 5 franchise in value immediately when Barclays Center is done. It's the MOST EXPENSIVE ARENA EVER BUILT!!! Plus, they're going to replace the mighty Dodgers as the symbol of the city 50 years later. Bruce Ratner isn't stupid, Proky is FOR SURE not stupid and the investors who bought these bonds up in less than a half of a day are not stupid.

Brooklyn Nets are a company and a brand-name just like anything from GAP, Starbucks, Office Depot, EA Sports to the Philadelphia Eagles. It's a brand and it's going to sell, especially with the Nets already aligned with the Yankees and YES Network.

Dolan and his MSG gang are not happy about this one bit, believe me. The Barclays Center is going to trump the biggest daddies of them all in Madison Square Garden and Staples Center.

Wow was this a horrid comparison. I mean complete ignorance!

You cannot compare these situations. Clearly someone with no understanding of the area, the demograhpic...the impact of having a new arena in this area of NY.

A better comparison would be the Mets and Yankees. While this is clearly a Yankee town...guess what? The Mets are as big a franchise in basebal NOT names the Yankees. The upgrade from being the Swamp rats of the meadowlands to to the Brooklyn Nets? This is enormous.

And the fact that the Knicks havent won a title in close to 40 years ...dont ever compare them to the Lakers. Knikcs are the popular team in ths town. But Nyers react to buzz. And the buzz around this team will be fantastic. They are doing everything right.

Glad its over and that its happening! We knew it had to be done by 12/31 to get the bond issue resolved.

And with the potential Newark short term lease deal, looks like JJ and other NJ guys can get the best of both worlds. I think the Newark thing coul dbe helpful as well in free agency to help offset the waiting period for the new building.

Very excited.

Now lets max the cap room!

Hey JJ...figured i would stop by. So far this season is going exaclty as i hoped. I said before it started.....

I want us to show promise with our young talent...but I will root for us to lose every single game other than the ones we play the Nix. And? We beat those crap heads as awful as we are. Going perfectly. Love the sale...bond issue resolved...Bklyn a LOCK....and we get a short term in Newark as a bonus. Now if the cap goes up awesome! Just need the space to make it all come together.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
