Mo Williams made 7 of 7 3-point attempts, LeBron James scored 25 points with 12 assists and the Cleveland Cavaliers rebounded from a lackluster loss in Charlotte by beating the road-tested Dallas Mavericks 111-95 on Saturday night.

Williams finished with 25 points and Anderson Varejao scored 15 -- 13 in the second half -- for the Cavs, who were beaten 94-87 by the Bobcats on Friday in center Shaquille O'Neal's return after missing six games with a shoulder injury. Cleveland also got a huge boost from troubled guard Delonte West.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 27 and Jason Terry 25 for Dallas, which was denied its sixth straight road win.

Jonas Jerebko a pleasant surprise for Pistons
The 22 points he scored Friday night were great, but Jonas Jerebko is not on the court for his offense. He replaced an injured Tayshaun Prince in the starting lineup early in the season and continues to log heavy minutes at small forward because of his energy. "That's why he's playing," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "There's no hidden formula -- he does this offensively or he does that -- no. He plays hard on every possession. "He's someone I can count on, and that's important."

With Prince, Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon out of the lineup Friday night, it was important that someone step up offensively for the Pistons. Detroit had just three healthy players who averaged more than 5.0 points heading into that game, so the Pistons needed to find some extra offense. Jerebko provided it. He never had scored more than 10 points in a game, but he made all four of his 3-point attempts on the way to a great night offensively. "To see him get a little bit of success, the way he shot the ball, was healthy for him, because he needed that," Kuester said. "The ball had been close and hadn't been going in. He did a real nice job."

Jerebko has been a pleasant surprise for the Pistons this season. Second-round picks often don't make the roster as rookies, but Jerebko did. He became the first Swedish player to play in the NBA just three games into the season, then slid into the starting lineup after Prince went down with a back injury. "It just feels good to show that I should be here," Jerebko said. "There's a lot of people that doubted me, but it's just fun to show that I belong over here. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. "It's a dream come true just to be playing here. I can't really describe it in words."

Prince improving
Prince seemed to be getting around the floor well at the end of practice Saturday when he went through repetitions catching passes, setting his feet and shooting. "He's still a ways (away), but he's getting better," Kuester said. "That's encouraging. It's good to see him out there moving the way he is and shooting the ball, so that's a step in the right direction."

Gordon had a mild limp as he made his way to the locker room. He is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Prince and Hamilton are not yet ready to return.

Daye's role undecided
Rookie Austin Daye got the start Friday in place of Gordon, but it appears he doesn't have that role locked up.

"Austin did a nice job," Kuester said. "What's going to happen as time goes on -- if we don't get anybody healthy -- is it might be more matchups than anything. We'll make adjustments from there."

Streak tests coaching staff
The Pistons take a seven-game losing streak into the game against the Hawks, who are 12-4 after a 100-86 win Friday against Philadelphia.

Kuester said it is up to him and the coaching staff to lead by example during tough times.

"We've got to do a great job of bringing the juice every day of how we're coaching this team, because this is a marathon, it's not a sprint," he said. "It's my job to make sure that the attention to detail gets done every time we step on the court, and there are times when we have done it and times when we haven't done it. "I've got to do a better job in this stretch, especially with all the young players that we have."

Hawks-Pistons Preview
A decent rivalry between the Detroit Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks through much of the 1980s and '90s became very one-sided this decade. That is until last season when the Hawks got the better of it, and there's little reason to think that will soon change. While Atlanta has one of the best records in the Eastern Conference, the injury-plagued Pistons have one of the worst and they're trying to snap a seven-game losing streak Sunday while avoiding a fourth straight defeat to the Hawks. These teams were Central Division foes until Atlanta (12-4) was shifted to the Southeast in 2004 and they met in the playoffs five times from 1986 through 1999, with the Hawks winning three of those series. Once the millennium hit, however, only Detroit (5-11) remained a perennial postseason contender. The Hawks went through an eight-year playoff drought until returning in 2007-08, but they still lost all four meetings with Detroit that season. That left Atlanta with a 6-27 record in the series since December 1999. The Hawks never won back-to-back meetings during that stretch of futility, but they finally turned the tide last season. Besides winning all three matchups with Detroit, Atlanta won its first playoff series since 1999 and the Pistons failed to win one for the first time since 2001.

Atlanta begins this season's series riding its longest win streak over Detroit since a four-game sweep in 1993-94. Now the Hawks can cause Detroit to match its longest losing streak of the decade. Since January 1995, the only time the Pistons have dropped eight straight came last season, but that's what they face with a loss Sunday and they'll be short-handed. Richard Hamilton (ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (back) have not played this month and neither is expected back Sunday. The same can be said of Ben Gordon, who sat out Friday night's 104-96 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers with a sprained ankle. "Our confidence doesn't go anywhere. We are professionals so we have to stay with that mindset," said guard Will Bynum, who was 4 of 17 from the field Friday. "The best thing about the NBA is that we have another game on Sunday. We got to regroup and try to get our stuff together and get a win on Sunday."

Atlanta got its act together Friday, bouncing back from consecutive losses to beat Philadelphia 100-86. The Hawks hit 51.4 percent from the field after getting held below 39 percent in defeats to New Orleans and Orlando. "Expectations are high this year and that's the way you want it," coach Mike Woodson told the league's official Web site. "We're not at the top yet and that's the way the team likes it." Jamal Crawford scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter Friday and continues to play well as Atlanta's sixth man, averaging 18.8 points in the last four games. He's also provided a veteran presence for a young roster along with point guard Mike Bibby, who scored 21 on Friday. Bibby averaged 7.2 points on 32.6 percent shooting in the previous five games. "He's a real pro," Woodson said of Bibby.

Vince Carter scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half after getting four stitches and Dwight Howard added 25 points and 20 rebounds to rally the Orlando Magic to a 100-98 victory over the short-handed Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night.

Milwaukee, which has lost four straight, tied it when rookie Brandon Jennings, who finished with 18 points, hit a 3 to tie it at 95 with 2:40 to play.

Milwaukee took a 68-53 lead on a 3-pointer by Jennings midway through the third, but squandered it when Carter, Lewis and Jason Williams sparked a 20-4 run to give Orlando a 73-72 lead in the fourth. Lewis finished with 14 points and Williams had 12.

Pau Gasol scored 22 points to lead seven players in double figures and also had 12 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers won their fifth straight game with a 130-97 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night.

Ron Artest added 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Kobe Bryant had 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals after a slow start to help the Lakers to their highest point total of the season.

Monta Ellis scored 18 points and Corey Maggette had 17 points and six rebounds in Golden State's third straight game without ill coach Don Nelson, who is fighting pneumonia. Nelson is expected to miss two more games before rejoining the team for Thursday night's home game against Houston.

Gordon is doubtful to play against Hawks Pistons Basketball
The Pistons list guard Ben Gordon as doubtful for today's home game against the Hawks. But it's apparent that his sprained left ankle isn't as serious as the sprained right ankle that has hobbled Rip Hamilton since the season opener.

Gordon didn't practice Saturday but was dribbling and walking without apparent discomfort, so it looks as if the recuperation period from the injury he suffered Wednesday night against the Cavs will be short. In another bit of good news, Tayshaun Prince was going through drills with point guard Will Bynum and strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander after practice, so it appears his back is feeling better. But he still hasn't gone through live drills and has some hurdles to clear.

Same for Hamilton, who appears behind Prince in terms of who will return first."That's encouraging," coach John Kuester said of Prince. "It is good to see him out there moving the way he is, shooting the ball. That's a foot in the right direction."

NOTEBOOK: Kuester wasn't certain whether Austin Daye, who replaced Gordon in Friday night's loss to the Clippers, would get the starting nod today if Gordon can't go. Daye, who stands 6-foot-11, said he's comfortable at guard since he played point guard all through high school.

Prince may return at power forward
As the Pistons' season threatens to end before it has barely begun, there is one question that keeps being repeated: How will those who have been trying to keep the team above water respond when Tayshaun Prince and Rip Hamilton return from injuries? The thinking is Austin Daye, Jonas Jerebko, Will Bynum and Ben Gordon (nursing a left ankle sprain) might balk at lesser minutes when the two veterans return. But considering the team is on a seven-game losing streak and stands at 5-11 going into today's home game against the Atlanta Hawks, there really isn't a whole lot they can say but "Please hurry back." And I would say there really isn't going to be a logjam, because folks forget Pistons coach John Kuester has an option that he really didn't have time to explore before the injuries hit.

Prince, who is out with a ruptured disk, will more than likely get time at power forward when he returns. When Kuester was asked about it earlier this month, he admitted it's something that could be in the offing. "We haven't really talked about that a lot," Kuester said. "We've discussed in the preseason with small ball where he would play some (power forward), and it's something that has to be explored. "But we got to get him healthy first." When both return, Prince is to start at small forward with Hamilton (ankle) at two-guard, and Gordon and Jerebko will go back to the bench. But there will be plenty of minutes to go around because Kuester has shown he isn't caught up on positions -- he just plays the best players. Arguably, the Pistons' top nine players are Hamilton, Prince, Ben Wallace, Charlie Villanueva, Gordon, Rodney Stuckey, Will Bynum, Daye and Jerebko.

The trio of Jason Maxiell, Chris Wilcox and Kwame Brown will get some frontcourt minutes, but maybe just spot duty because of particular matchups like Orlando's Dwight Howard or Cleveland's Shaquille O'Neal. One of the Pistons' early-season problems has been when Villanueva goes to the bench. Because of the lack of scoring punch among the other bigs, the Pistons aren't as balanced, and teams can focus their defensive efforts on the Pistons' talented perimeter players. "Anytime you have one of your bigs that can put the ball in the basket, it's huge for your team because it can spread out the defense," said Kuester, speaking of Villanueva, but he could just as easily have been describing the importance of having offensive balance. "It makes people become more focused as far as what you do pick-and-roll wise." Prince got some action at the four-spot under coach Michael Curry last season and small ball is becoming quite prevalent around the league. So unless a trade comes along to add frontcourt depth, don't be surprised if Prince is getting around 5 or 6 minutes per night at the four.

The Pistons vs. The Hawks
The 5-11 Pistons face the 12-4 Atlanta Hawks to try to end their seven game slide.

Rip and Tayshaun have not played this month and neither is expected back Sunday. The same can be said of Ben Gordon who is still listed as day to day. “Our confidence doesn’t go anywhere. We are professionals so we have to stay with that mindset,” said guard Will Bynum, who was 4 of 17 from the field Friday. “The best thing about the NBA is that we have another game on Sunday. We got to regroup and try to get our stuff together and get a win on Sunday.” Via NBA.com

Tip is at 1:00 pm EST and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit. For the radio broadcast tune into 97.1 The Ticket or follow the action on NBA.com. Ben Gordon is doubtful for Sunday’s game, but it’s not a foregone conclusion that rookie Austin Daye will get his second start against the Hawks. Daye had 13 points (4-11 FGs) and five rebounds against the Clippers Friday. “Austin did a nice job,” Pistons coach John Kuester said. “What’s going to happen as time goes on, and if the team stays as present – if we don’t get anybody healthy – is it might be more matchups than anything. So we’ll make adjustments from there.” The Hawks offer a lot for Kuester’s staff to take into account, starting with All-Star Joe Johnson (21.7 ppg) and Mike Bibby (10.6) in the backcourt. Both players had big games against Detroit last season. In fact, the Hawks had a different leading scorer and a different leading rebounder in each of their three wins over the Pistons last season, and all of those players are back. It was the Hawks’ first season sweep of Detroit in 15 years. “They’ve got a number of weapons, 1 through 5 can be weapons at anytime,” Kuester said. All five starters, plus sixth man Jamal Crawford (see key matchup), average at least 10.0 points. The Hawks average 103.3 points per game. “This is a very talented Atlanta team so we need to make sure we do a great job of getting back in transition.”

After watching the Clippers’ Baron Davis attack the Pistons defense and come away with 25 points (11-for-11 at the free-throw line) and 10 assists, Kuester will want to put pressure on stopping the ball, and whether that lineup includes Daye remains to be seen. Daye’s starting debut was overshadowed by fellow rookie Jonas Jerebko, who led a valiant fourth-quarter effort by the Pistons. The NBA’s first Swedish player scored a team-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 4-for-4 beyond the arc. “To see him get a little bit of success last night, the way he shot the ball, was healthy for him because he needed that,” Kuester said. “The ball had been close and it hadn’t been going in. But he did a real nice job yesterday.” Jerebko, whose season high before Friday was just 10 points, said he doesn’t feel pressure to provide an encore performance Sunday. “I just got some (set plays) on offense I hadn’t got before and my first two shots dropped so I got more confidence on offense and went on after that,” he said. “I don’t feel pressure at all. Just come out and play my game. We’ll see what happens.”

While Jerebko could be matched up against fellow small forward Marvin Williams, don’t be surprised if the 6-foot-10 forward – who has drawn Kobe and LeBron as defensive assignments in the past – tries to slow down 6-foot-9 Josh Smith, who is averaging 15.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists. Smith, who is also the NBA’s No. 2 shot blocker (2.6 bpg), is far more explosive than Williams and could require Jerebko’s persistent defensive attention, which continues to receive rave reviews. Williams, the former No. 1 overall pick, at times seems gets lost in the Hawks’ high-flying attack. He’s averaging 10.0 points but has scored fewer than eight points in half of Atlanta’s 16 games. Although Clippers center Chris Kaman was nearly flawless Friday – making 11 of 13 shots for a game-high 26 points, Kuester's not holding it against Ben Wallace. “He’s a warrior. And it’s interesting, we rely so heavily on him for so many things, his effort is always there, and I think one of the things I take for granted a lot of times is that whoever he is guarding, I don’t think will score,” Kuester said. “I thought Kaman had some amazing tough shots, but Ben is always going to compete.” Wallace, who tied his season high with 16 rebounds Friday, will be charged with stopping Al Horford, who made everything look easy against the Pistons last season. He averaged 14.7 points on 57.6% shooting and 10.0 rebounds.

Crawford

In his first season with the Hawks, Jamal Crawford has emerged as the early front-runner for Sixth Man of the Year. Though he’s averaging his fewest minutes per game in seven seasons (30.8), Crawford has proven to be more efficient, shooting a higher percentage (44.9 FG%) than he did as a starter. The onetime Michigan Wolverine is Atlanta’s second-leading scorer (16.6 ppg), averaging more than the rest of Mike Woodson’s bench combined. “You talk about a team that has stayed healthy and who has been together for a number of years. They have an understanding, and Crawford has really added a lot to that team,” Pistons coach John Kuester said. “Jamal Crawford has been a great addition for them. And these guys are playing at a very high level right now.” Crawford enjoyed one of his best outings to date Friday, scoring a team-high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting – including three triples – as the Hawks (12-4) won at Philly, 100-86. He also had five assists and four rebounds. Bynum falls into the category of dark-horse Sixth Man candidates chasing Crawford. One of the few bright spots at the end of 2008-09, Bynum seemingly could do no wrong when this season opened. But he’s had his share of difficulties with an increasingly heavy workload, including minor toe and ankle injuries. After a season-low four points in Wednesday’s loss to Cleveland – in which he shot 1-for-13 from the field – Bynum vowed to be more involved Friday, whether or not his shot was falling. When he missed six of his first seven shots against the Clippers, Bynum stayed true to his vow. He dished a season-high nine assists with just one turnover in 33 minutes – no small feat for a Pistons squad struggling to generate assists. He managed 14 points, but is now 5-for-30 from the field in his last two games. “Confidence doesn’t just go away,” Bynum said. “We’re professionals and have to stay with that mindset. Best thing about the NBA is we got another game on Sunday, so we have to regroup and try to get our stuff together and get a win on Sunday.”
