back up point
Watching tonights game has really made me think we need a back up pg. At the start of the season I was one of the fans who thought that house and daniels could share the duty, however a cheap vet who can simply distribute and carry the ball may be needed. Our offence looked so stagnent early in the first without rondo in the game. As soon as he checked in we looked more fluid.

It is more than likely to be Lue at some point if needed.

Re: back up point
Guys, Lue's not good enough to be in the NBA for a reason. He's not an NBA player anymore.
As for the question, yes, we could use a backup point guard. Ideally, we'd trade House for one. Or, maybe give Hudson some minutes in January after a stint in the D-League.
All in all, I don't think it's a major need, unless something happens to Rondo. Luckily, we probably have the ammo (House/TA/Scal/Giddens/Baby/Williams) to bring in an injury replacement if necessary. Let's hope we don't. That would suck.

^^^ There are plenty of PGs who are not in the NBA that could play in it. I think Lue is one of those guys. And we don't need a backup PG. We won a championship without one at least in my eyes..

Re: back up point
i love the way this team looks with rondo in, but I just feel a distribute first back up point guard would help the second unit get a lot more shots. i was thinking someone like brevin knight. they don't have to be an amazing player, just have good passing ability and court vision

*Could* isn't *should*. Kedrick Brown or Gerald Green *could* play right now. Hell, I *could* play. Talk about a qualifier.
Remember Doc's words to Lue? "Call me when you're done trying to play." Lue's been trying to play for a while now.
I agree with your conclusion though--we don't need a backup point guard. I'd be nice, but it's not a need, it's a want.

Denver is supposed to be shopping Anthony Carter. He could end up being bought out if they don't find a trade.

I still hope that Ainge will find a team looking to dump salary at the trade deadline for expirings contracts (House/Scal/TA/Giddens) and a draft pick to get a longterm solution for backup PG. For example, Minny and Ramon Sessions. We'll see.

Its not as a big qualifier as you think.. What I am saying is that there is a group of players out there that could give you serviceable minutes at the PG spot for next to nothing. This is why there is a large 'rotation' of PGs out there. You see guys in the league for a year or two and they are gone. Guys like Troy Bell or Orien Greene (there are probably better guys then this) - who aren't good enough to be in any teams 10 man rotation but are good enough to take a spot on the bench if you REALLY wanted a PG (due to injury).
I think for most rosters it's a mistake to think that the 10-15 guys are really much better then the guys in D-leagues or playing overseas. Brian Scalarbine is a perfectly good example. While he is good enough to "play with" pros he isn't better then a ton of other PFs/SF tweeners out there who play in lessor leagues.
He is a AAA player. Lue is likely now a AAA kind of player - but I am sure we could grab someone else who could handle the ball against pressure and make some decent passes. There are probably 5 - 6 guys in the DL that could step up + 5 - 6 guys in the foreign leagues that could play as well. And I think another half dozen guys that could be had in a trade for just salary relief..

Re: back up point
neither Pierce, Allen, Daniels ,House or Hudson have demonstrated that they can be the backup PG. Is Antonio Daniels still out there, if so we should take a look. If ROndo doesn't come back in that game last night we lose it because no one could get our offense going.

Re: back up point
Another second unit point guard is just about dead last on this teams list of needs and priorities right now, as well it should be.
