Love for Perk

Post#1 » by Cyclical » Mon Nov 30, 2009 2:19 am

With all the deserving excitement over KG's great shooting over the last couple of games and Pierce's outstanding play this season, plus all the hoople surrounding Rondo's contract and Rasheed's uneven performances, Perk's play has gone a bit unnoticed. Our boy is slowly but surely putting together the best season of his career. I can hardly believe it but it's his 7th year in the NBA. Still very young but already a veteran.

11.1 points per game, up from last year's career high of 8.5, in 3 less minutes per game, while shooting a career high of 62%. Man, that's good. And to boot, his already outstanding one-on-one interior defense is better than ever -- the 3 blocks on JO today were ridiculous. He's obviously in better shape as well -- seems lighter on his feet and you don't see him huffing and puffing as much as before. Yes, he moves a little too much on picks and sometimes rushes his shot for that all too familiar just-short hook but he's solid as a rock at everything else in his role description and brings passion every game.

Props to Perk. Keep quietly anchoring our team. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the floor for 28-30 minutes a game. Though I know he doesn't mind the glory going to others I sure hope he makes the all-defensive team this year.

Totally agree. Solid mean mother on D who has improved offensively. I am glad we have him.

I have always loved this guy! He strides to better himself every single year since he's been in the league and he has, plus whats not to like on his demeanor?! The only thing I feel he needs to realize is that he is not KG while setting picks, so the refs will not give him the same love they give KG. Besides that Perk can dominate anyone on D, even Howard (unless the refs allow him to spend as much time in the paint as he wants). Also what a bargain (for NBA standards) he is, when you look at garbage big men around the league who are overpaid for just their size ad here we have him at 4+ mill per year!

Perk has played great for us this year. There are times this season while watching the games when I am literally begging for someone to give it to Perk in the post. At times when our offense goes stail, we shoud just dump it into the big fellow. Like Sheed said the other night, when he takes his time good things happen. Perk is a beast!!!!!

Perk's been my fav since his second year when he chucked Jermaine O'neal on the floor in the playoffs. He just quietly keeps getting better.

I think my moment was when he was put in during garbage time and kept Desmon Mason from showboating by knocking him down while the Bucks were spanking us. I remember reading the article afterwards were it described the look on his face as a man who hated losing, and for a young guy that is a great thing.

Wow, I can't believe its been seven years since Perk came into the league. He's the defensive anchor of the team and our muscle. He's our unsung hero.

I <3 Perk.

Perk's the man. He's been a vocal leader for this team since before KG got here, he's consistently worked his ass off to get better offensively, he's always put the effort in defensively, and he's by far our best contract. He's probably one of the most underrated players in the league. It's really amazing how we got a guy like him on our team. He's just as important as Rondo to our future.

Dude is one of the most underrated players in the league. Solid, love his effort and attitude.

In a league of stat-obsessed, ESPN highlight-seeking divas, gotta love a tough guy throwback like him.

I was perplexed after it became clear that Perk would start besides KG, that no sports journalist could envision him being the ultimate sidekick to KG. He's the best center KG ever had and I knew from the beginning that we would fit very well in this starting frontcourt.

And since 2007 he still gets better and better. Thanks Perk!

Who doesn't love Perk?

Beyond Perk's improving offensive game, and his shotblocking and rebounding ability, and the incremental improvement he makes every season (7 and counting, right?) is that he can matchup one-on-one against any center in the league. That's so HUGE. Most teams have to double Howard or Bynum in the post. We don't have to. Because Perk's there.

As Perk says, hard work pays off. Nothing's been handed to him--he's had to earn everything. He's also unafraid to speak his mind. I think he's going to be a team leader for years to come, and he's going to make a few All-Stars games down the road as well. Great steal by Ainge back in 2003.

62% shooter for the season, picked D Wade off the floor and didn't he make 7 for 8 free throws last night?

Perk is great. He truly is someone late draft picks should model themselves after. He plays with intensity but within his role and improves every year. Remember how ineffective he was when we first got him? He really has come a long way. I doubt many realize it but he has made more progress in Green than most of our team. The great thing is he is still young and there is no reason to think the improvment will stop anytime soon. Hes just starting to come into his own on O and as KG and Sheeds impact go down he can pick up the slack.
