Ummm.... IIRC the cap next year is gonna be down to like 55 mil... is Buss really gonna give Kobe 30 mil... or uh... 60% of the TOTAL cap....

I know Kobe's contract is grandfathered where he can extend for hugeass money, but with the way the CBA has it all setup, it limits how much other teams can throw at a player when they're FAs. I know some people think its being a cheapskate and "disrespects" Kobe, but if all we have todo is outbid an outside team by a mil or two (which is most assuredly alot less than 30 mil), then the onus is on Kobe whether that "disrespect" is worth leaving a CHAMPIONSHIP team. And if he does leave, then good riddance to such an egotistical punk.

Kobe shouldnt be allowed to hold this team hostage again...

Kobe is 31.

I want the Lakers to lock him up until he is done 38 or 40. Kobe is a lifetime Laker and he needs to never wear another teams uni. If a guys is the best player of his generation he deserves that from his team.

I know Kobe can sign a deal longer than 3 years.

Since Kobe will have that no-trade clause in his contract he should be able to be a Laker for life.
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

If you're over the cap 20 million this season, and 10 the next. You're paying 20 million extra this year, and 10 million next season.

If a 20m contract puts the team at the tax limit, you pay nothing. if a 20m contract puts you 1million OVER, you just pay 1 million... not an extra 20 million.

No idea where these poor misconceptions come from.

This is the Lakers - they will be significantly over the lux tax for the duration of Kobe's tenure with the team. My comment is made in anticipation of that, not out of some stupid idea that every contract is doubled. What do you think this is The newbie board? Really, it's responses like this why I rarely come in during the season.

LA is not suddenly going to become cheap and put a bunch Smush's next to Kobe at the end of his career. If healthy, Gasol will garner another big deal after 2012, if Bynum lives up to it he'll get that last year exercised and quite probably an extension, Ron Ron has 5 yrs, LO has 3+ TO, Walton has several at MLE, and a PG will be needed next year quite possibly at 5 mil/for multi year.

Your misconception is that LA will be spending less than 85 mill in any of the next 3 to 4 seasons. My point was just consider it doubled since the team is not going to suddently short shrift Kobe by letting Pau walk for nothing, trade away some of its assets like Bynum to gain a bunch of significant salary relief, or do anything that jeopardizes the final run for Kobe and what is also probably Buss's last glory run approaching his 80's.

Since you are a pup here I'll leave it be, but feel free to keep your pointless lectures about the tax to yourself - most on this board have been arguing Coon facts for 4 or 5 years now.
