trade Korver and Koufus for decent center
It is time to trade Korver and Koufus for a defensive low post center-Use Harpring, if needed = future draft picks if need be, also
Start this new center with Boozer, Brewer, Williams and the rookie. When Miles comes back, he is the shooting guard with Mayner, Kirlinko, Milsap, and Okur off the Bench. That leaves Price and Fes on the bench. This protects the middle, gets rebounds and balances the scoring on both 1st and 2nd teams.

If only it was that simple. There are not too many defensive centers available and if we can get one for Korver and Kosta, he probably won't make much of a difference.
I think it's easier to draft Aldrich and try to trade a package of Boozer or Sap + Korver, Harp, Brewer or whoever for a good wing. I don't see any trade that would make us contenders this season, since neither Isiah or McHale are still GMs. Better to prepare for next year IMO.

I don't think Marc Gasol is on the trading block. In fact he's making that trade with the Lakers look more and more even. That trade allowed the Grizzlies to get a younger big guy who is A) Cheaper than his brother; and B) Likely to peak at the same time as their other young players.

If the Jazz were anywhere close to contending, then I'd be all for dealing for Camby.

Yeah, we have no one that Memphis would part ways with Marc Gasol for, obviously Williams being untouchable in this scenario.

Tried to find some defensive ratings on the web.
Defensive Stats as per Basketball-Reference
2009/10, 2008/09, Career
Player ORtg DRtg +/-
Haywood 111 106 5, 99 109 -10, 113 106 7
Battie NA NA NA, 106 102 4, 106 103 3
Blount NA NA NA, 88 109 -21, 100 105 -5
Gasol,M 127 108 19, 112 108 4, 115 108 7
Camby 111 99 12, 112 104 8, 106 98 8
Foster 107 108 -1, 115 108 7, 115 102 13
We couldnt get Haywood, Gasol or Camby and wouldnt want Battie and Blount. Foster would be ok though he is old (33).
Dalembert 93 108 -15, 103 103 0, 105 102 3
Dampier 126 97, 29, 129 107 22, 106 104 2
Okafor 104 105 -1, 112 103 9, 106 104 2
Chandler 92 97 -5, 113 107 6, 111 101 10
N.Collison 120 103 17, 119 108 11, 113 109 4
Looks like the swap hasnt worked at yet (Okafor/Chandler). Dalembert is untradable this year with his contract. I wouldnt mind a trade for Collison. Neither Foster or Collison would play more than half the game though. Dampier has surprisingly good stats although he is old (34) and has 2 years (25M) left on his contract.

Which by the way are a little suprising to say the least..
2009/10, Career
Rk Player ORtg DRtg +/-
1 Kosta Koufos 119 104 15, 110 106 4
2 Carlos Boozer 113 104 9, 112 104 8
3 Kyrylo Fesenko 116 106 10, 100 104 -4
4 Ronnie Price 88 106 -18, 97 107 -10
5 Andrei Kirilenko 115 107 8, 112 102 10
6 Paul Millsap 110 107 3, 114 104 10
7 Mehmet Okur 104 108 -4, 113 105 8
8 Deron Williams 107 109 -2, 113 110 3
9 Ronnie Brewer 106 109 -3, 117 107 10
10 Eric Maynor 104 110 -6, 104 110 -6
11 Wesley Matthews 100 113 -13, 100 113 -13
Who thought Boozer would be equal first this season? Anyone? What about Wes Matthews being the worst this year?
I added the +/- as you can see there is a big difference between Fes and Price even though they each allow 106 points per possesion when on the court we score an extra 28 points per 100 possesions on offense with Fes (116) vs Price (88).
We have 5 players who have a solid career +/-: Kirilenko (10), Millsap (10), Brewer (10), Boozer (8) and Okur (8). The rookies are bad but that isnt surprising, most rookies are. It is unfortunate Fes is not in game condition as both Fes and Koufos have good stats this year, though only small data. Deron's defensive stats are only average.
Its only early in the season though so here are the stats for last year for comparison.

Yes, I do like my stats but they should always be taken with a grain a salt.

They traded Pau Gasol for K. Brown and a pick (nobody knows Marc was going to be as good... I didn't know he was gonna be good and I've been watching him in Spain)

Why do people have such a hard-on for Camby? The Nuggets got better defensively after trading him, that's all you need to know.......

I think the Knicks want to get rid of Eddy Curry...........................................J/K
Pau's brother is untouchable for what the Jazz would offer, Camby's too wasted, Foster's the best option I believe.

I really wondering why Koufos doesnt play this season. At the summer looked bad on D, but he showed nice hands, good finishing ability, and great SB instincts. Last season showed lots of flashes too. Whats the deal this season with him? Any plans to send him on the NBDL?

He (Coach O'Brien) is taking a serious look at using Jeff Foster as his starting center over second-year option Roy Hibbert.
"I have to decide whether Jeff should be the guy that starts for us," O'Brien said.
"He's so successful in the plus/minus (category) all the time."

Re: trade Korver and Koufus for decent center
Surprised that no one mentioned Joel Pryzbilla here. The dude is a beast on the boards and, though he can be up and down at times, is often really good defensively. What we need is not just a guy who is "good defensively" we need a bigger guy who is capable of doing one of two things in an exemplary fashion: defending the pick and roll or playing weakside defense in terms of blocking shots and getting a body in front of a penetrating guard. Pryzbilla is one of the best options in terms of what it would take to get him combined with what he makes and his long term contract situation.
Foster is too old and definitely on the downside, plus he's more of a hustle guy than a big man presence.
Haywood is decent but probably not available. He's an "ok" option.
Camby is overrated and old.
Lol @ Collison
Roflmfao @ Blount. He makes Memo look like Mark Eaton
Marc Gasol is too good to get unless we are somehow able to fleece the Grizz or are willing to give up a king's ransom.
Tony Battie is mediocre and not really an impact guy on defense. Won't make much of a difference.
Dalembert is way overpaid and massively inconsistent. Doesn't give regular effort.
Chandler is injury prone and looks like he might be done, but would be worth it for the right price.
Okafor is undersized and overpaid, but if we didn't have to give up too much for him I would look at that.
None are as good of an option as Pryzbilla is, and his team happens to have a big, strong, paint guarding center on the roster, so it doesn't require his team to give up their only defensive big guy.
Still, our best option will likely come in this draft.

Re: trade Korver and Koufus for decent center
You have to give some to get some... and in fact you usually have to give more than you get in regards to big defesive men.
We can create a list of problems and reasons why you don't want just about every player in the league. There isn't a prefect big man out there and if there was (dwight howard) there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that we would be able to get him.
Nobody is going to give up a big man that you want for Korver, Harpring, and Kosta. You aren't going to get anybody on Erudite's list for that package.
