Courtney Lee not getting PT?

Post#1 » by holeydonut » Sat Nov 28, 2009 8:02 am

Does anyone know why Lee hasn't been getting minutes? I really thought the Nets would start turning things around with Harris and Lee coming back, but Hassell continues to get run and even TWill was mostly held out of tonight's game.

CLEE does not suck... While it might be true he may not want to be there. I also think he is being misused. He plays very good help and perimeter defense. He is sixth in the legue in steals per game.

In the right situation and being used properly he can be a great role player. He is not a true scorer and he is trying to hard to be one it is messing his game up. He needs to focus on his strengths. I would take him back if you guys do not want him.

And what exactly are his strenghts on offense??

He's shooting 17% from Three, he's too slow and has poor handles to drive in succesfully, too short to get the mid range jumper off cleanly etc etc.

Coming in, we had him as our 3rd option and dude is averaging 8 points a game while shooting it at under 30%. The fact that he was a starter for the Magic last season doesn't mean jack since he was probably the player that benefitted most from playing with Dwight. Lee is at best a 6th to 7th guy.

Yeah I've probably gave up on him too fast, maybe it's because of my frustrations with the overall team or whatever but I really don't see anything he really excels at.

Chris Douglas Roberts for example, he never settles for the jumpshot and drives in (succesfully) on most of his scoring opportunities. He's a pretty good finisher and doesn't force anything, utimate team player.

For all the talk of, "showing the Magic in was a mistake to trade him" he's done the complete opposite. Most of us (excluding Netsforce) regret trading for him since it cost us Ryan Anderson, a guy who had his fair share of fans on here.

He doesn't "suck" per se, but he sure as heck isn't good this year. I honestly think he needs to be traded to a contender for a prospect that isn't ready and is sitting on their bench. Who that is, I don't know, but Lee can be productive for that contender.

Can we have Ryan back?

Don't mean to jack this trade but are you guys willing to trade Lee? You guys seem down on him, was just curious as a Cavs fan.

The best we could probably offer would be something like Delonte West (only 500k guaranteed for next year) and either 1st Round pick or 2nd round pick and Danny Green for Keyon Dooling and Courtney Lee.

Don't know how you value him so just throwing it out there.

I think the fans would think about it and I'm sure the FO would entertain the idea.
A 1st, even late, in next year's draft is intriguing.
Then again, the FO would probably view it as a bad PR move to trade Lee already.

Well Lee performed reasonably well last night - and even got a block on Kobe.

I don't think Lee can be traded unless it's for a guy like DeRozan or some other young player with lots of potential. The FO really would look bad for basically converting VC and Ryan A for expiring contracts, a backup PG, and Delonte West.

Lee is good as a 5th option/role player like he was in Orlando playing with Dwight, Turkoglu, Lewis, and Nelson. Anyone who expects him to be a 1st or 2nd option will be disappointed.

I don't think Lee is worth a high ceiling player like DeRozan although you never know Toronto could get desperate if they don't start winning. With CDR's development at Lee's position it wouldn't be turrible to trade him for a pick in the deep '10 draft.

Wow talk about overreacting...

The guy played 5 games before getting injured. In those 5 games he scored in double figures 4 times. That was preceded by a pretty decent preseason. (shot 9-17 from 3, double figures all 5 games, more than 15 three times) I know the numbers don't tell everything but he definitely showed signs in the preseason. His shot wasn't falling during those first 5 games and he has the added pressure of being relied upon to score every night now. It's an adjustment.

He's also just a sophomore. He might just be a 5th option for the rest of his career. Or he might turn into a two way player that can score 20 ppg on any night. Give him time. Let him get back into basketball shape, get healthy, and get some time on the floor with Devin and Brook. If he's still not performing, hate all you want.

Courtney Lee is still a solid defender. He had 6 steals in a game this season already, he's average over 2 a game I think now which is solid.

What we are learning is that Courtney Lee is having difficulty adjusting to an offense where, in most cases, he has to create his own shot. This team lacks a true #1 scorer. Brook is still young and though I want him taking 12-15 shots a game, he's not a #1 scoring option yet, though we would all love for that to be. Until this team gets a #1 scoring option, a lot of guys will struggle in the same respect Courtney is.

Either way, we have nothing to lose right now so I am fine allowing our young guys to work through their struggles on the court.

Yeah I miss Ryan Anderson. As much as I love Ryan though, I am not 100% sure he'd be doing much better. The only benefit with getting Ryan back for us is that it'd free up more time for Terrence and CDR.

He may be a 'sophomore' but he will also be 25 in a few months. I'm a C Lee fan but for the most part you are what you are in the NBA by the time you hit your mid 20's.

He hasnt been playing well, and just on a side note, you have 3-4 SG on your roster that need minutes. 1) CDR, he is playing good 2) T Williams who can also play some SF, but is naturaly a SG 3) Courtney Lee 4) I have heard some people call Devin Harris a SG or Combo guard, not a naturaly PG ( not my opinion, I just hear it ) You guys have to find minutes for all these guys, and somebody is going to be on the loosing end, and the way Lee has played, ( shooter % mainly ) he hasnt earned his minutes.
