I see this premise over and over. Such and such team has no chance against such and such team. But over and over its just not true. How many Patriots fans thought they would get bitch slapped by the Saints? I sure didn't. You just don't know how these things play out..

It's all relative until you get your ass kicked.

Yes, the games still need to be played, and things like injuries happen, but it would not be a stretch to say that the Thunder would likely handle the Timberwolves easily. Anyone watching them play could see that.

Ditto the Pats and the Saints passing game. Who was gonna take the under in that game? (On a related note, if Maroney can run on the Saints like that, Adrian Peterson and the Vikings are going to walk all over them).

Anyhow, I liked the Celts over the Lakers two years ago. We were tough and they were soft. Things have changed.

I still think the Pats will bully those dudes in the playoffs on their way to a Super Bowl. :D

It's hard to tell how good the Celtics are so far, since only three of your wins so far in the seventeen games that have been played - are against teams with a better than .500 record (Cleveland, Utah & Miami). Surprisingly, your 14 game December schedule only has the Celtics playing 5 games against .500 or better teams and those .500 or better teams include Milwaukee & Oklahoma.

Meh. Even if they were beating good teams - that's not going to say enough either. I think all the board readers know how it goes around the NBA. Those "ratings" based on regular season outcomes are based on the assumptions that teams are playing their hardest against other teams. This is more assuredly NOT true.

Teams will take off games and simply coast. I went to the New York Knicks vs. Suns games last night and the Knicks MASSACRED the Suns. Why? The Suns were lackadisical and coasting. They simply mailed it in. Truthfully this happens all the time in the NBA. And of course is a big reason why teams with the best regular season record don't always win the title. The "best" team might be playing the hardest. Whereas the most talented team is just biding time till the playoffs.

OTOH other not as talented teams will play very hard and thus look "better" from the a SoS standpoint. And the some very talented teams will play mediocre ball but then "get up" for a good opponent (like the Atlanta team the C's faced in the playoffs).

So really this is why we have a playoff system. We aren't really going to be able to convicingly say who is best until its over. We can make some reasonable guesses - but that's about it. And this is of course why they should add a playoff system to the NCAA football but I digress..
