I kno there was an earlier post about 2011 free agency but I was wondering how much do you think it'll take to snag Durant, Melo or Parker. IMO those are the only potential franchise altering players that are still young. If we somehow sign Melo or Durant that leaves us without a PG.
Bird says that's the year we sign a big name free agent and turn the franchise around. How do you think we will spend the money that summer when Ford, Murph, Foster, Dunleavy, and Tinsley (?) come off the books?

Parker is the most likely.

Re: 2011?
Mike Conley (because you know he's gonna want out of Memphis). Hometown guy, high lotto pick, will be a great PG.
Nenad Krstic might be had for cheap, great one-two punch at C with him behind Hibbert.
See if we can get Caron Butler. If he's too expensive and Dunleavy has healed by 2011 (you never know), re-sign dunleavy to a reasonable contract. Or don't, just get some cheap depth at the wing.
Re-sign Murphy to a reasonable contract.
backup pg spot goes to our 2010 draft pick, whoever that guy is. Or we trade for him using that pick, or the 2011 pick.
Conley/pick
Dunleavy/Rush
Granger/Jones
Murphy/Hansbrough
Hibbert/Krstic/pick
sounds pretty good to me, and a lot cheaper than what we got going on at the moment.
Heck, depending on what we sign Conley and Hibbert and Rush for, maybe we could get a good 2012 free agent. Throw a huge contract at Eric Gordon, hope the Clippers are as dumb as usual and don't match.

By 2012 I think Hansbrough could very well be a starter barring injury. Murph could be the backup big with a solid 30 minutes a game.

Re: 2011?
A - Why would we throw a huge contract at Eric Gordon? What has he shown that says he deserves one?
B - Why are there still people who say Conley is the answer at PG. He's got the spot in Memphis and still isn't looking like he'll be anything more than a quality backup.
C - I think the past 2 seasons have proven that we can't keep adding several pieces every off season and expect our team to play like a cohesive unit. We don't need to sign 3 or 4 guys in 2011. We need to throw as much money as we reasonably can to get Danny someone to help carry the load, and then re-sign guys like Mike and Troy to cheaper deals. Re-tooling the roster every off season is going to get us nowhere.

Re: 2011?
I am totally with Dunthreevy on this one.. will someone please explain to me the utter infatuation with Mike Conley that generally floats around here? What has he done to warrant any desire for him? He can barely hang on to the starting spot in Memphis. (MEMPHIS!
) What makes him anywhere close to a franchise player, or above average player for that matter?
Why would we want him? Seems like hometown bias and nothing more to me.
(for the record I think hes been overated his entire career)

I doubt that's what Bird has in mind because that team may be worse than what we have now. I'd take Ford over Conley and I am fed up with Murph's D. Besides, that line-up puts us right back at 9th in the East. I was thinking maybe we trade our expirings for a vet but the only problem is I don't know who would want them and if we would get a decent player in return.
Ha, maybe when the Nets draft John Wall they'll give up Devin Harris for expirings so they will have money to get players to put around Lebron and Wall. Harris and Granger could work!

edit: thinking more though, is there a "jordan/pippen" type deal there? Love Danny, but I dunno, is he an awesome Robin and not really Batman?
And I don't see why we go for Melo, means we play he or Granger at the 4 a lot, and they both need lots of shots.
edit edit:
What about somehow snaring Williams instead of Paul? Maybe not quite as good, but with him, Danny and the right cast maybe there is something?
I have no idea, just rambling, played 2 games plus pickup last night, kinda tired heh.

Re: 2011?
The first Robin had a great solo career as Nightwing and is the current Batman.
I will continue to point to the Blazers of '77 and the Pistons of '04. Having a good team is better than having a superstar. The young guys will get better. It's time to get the right players for the system or get a right system for the players. Jamaal Tinsley was supposed to be the PG when Obie came and he's trying to fit Ford's round peg into a square hole. Things have not gone to plan a lot, but with 2011 looking good, I'm optimistic that we can get someone who will like Indiana. Conley actually makes sense because he's incredibly young and somewhat talented. Put him on a team where he's not with Zach Randolph and OJ Mayo and he'd be good as the ballhandler. I personally want to go for a better PG, but if we landed him I'd be alright.
