NBA Game Summary - Detroit at Chicago
Final Score: Chicago 92, Detroit 85

John Salmons led all scorers with 22 points, and Derrick Rose finished with 19 points and six assists, as the Chicago Bulls earned a 92-85 win over the Detroit Pistons in a Central Division matchup at the United Center. Brad Miller chipped in with 16 points, seven boards and six assists for Chicago, which was able to snap a five-game slide. Luol Deng went for 14 points and eight rebounds, while Joakim Noah finished with a game-best 14 boards to go along with seven points. Ben Gordon ended with 18 points, and Rodney Stuckey had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Pistons, who were unable to build off a 94-88 win over Atlanta on Sunday. Detroit has dropped eight of its last nine overall. Gordon, who was questionable for the contest due to a sprained ankle, played his first game against Chicago since leaving the Bulls as a free agent in the offseason.

Chicago jumped out to a 24-10 lead after the opening 12 minutes and went up by as many as 15, 47-32, after Salmons' three-pointer with a shade over two minutes left in the half. The Bulls led by a 48-38 margin at the intermission. Detroit was able to claw to within three in the early stages of the third quarter after a Jason Maxiell layup. Deng then answered with a bucket on the Bulls next possession, which sparked a 13-2 run. Miller's hook shot put Chicago up, 63-49, with 5 1/2 minutes left, and it would have a 74-57 advantage after three quarters. In the fourth, Will Bynum's layup with 4:38 to play drew the Pistons to within 80-71, but Deng's two free throws a short time later restored Chicago's double-digit lead. Detroit was able to get as close as five, 90-85, with 16.5 seconds left after Gordon's pair from the stripe, but Miller drained two free throws at the other end to seal Chicago's win.

Game Notes
The Bulls have now won seven straight over Detroit at the United Center...Bynum finished with 10 points and seven assists...Chicago shot 47.8 percent from the field, while Detroit made only 38.5 percent of its shots and a woeful 4-of-16 from three-point range.

Ben Gordon's return not so sweet as Pistons fall to Bulls, 92-85
The Detroit Pistons' Rodney Stuckey, left, drives to the basket past the Chicago Bulls' Taj Gibson in the first quarter.CHICAGO -- John Salmons scored 22 points, Derrick Rose added 19 and the Chicago Bulls ended a five-game losing streak by beating the Detroit Pistons 92-85 on Wednesday night.Detroit's Ben Gordon made his return to the United Center and heard the boos from the crowd. Gordon, who led the Bulls in scoring the previous four seasons before signing a five-year, $55 million contract with Detroit in the offseason, scored 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting and picked up five fouls. The Bulls used an 11-0 third-quarter run to pull out to a comfortable lead and get a victory in their first home game since a 1-5 trip, mostly to the West Coast.

Gordon entered the game with 6:24 left in the first quarter to a mixed greeting that was mostly boos. And when he went to the line less than 2 minutes later, the boos grew louder before turning to cheers when he missed the free throw. The boos continued every time he touched the ball during the game. Gordon, who missed the Pistons' previous two games with a sprained left ankle, finished the half with five points and three fouls. The Pistons clipped a 10-point halftime deficit to three in the third quarter before the Bulls took off. Rose drove through the lane for a hoop, Joakim Noah hit a short jumper, Salmons connected on a 3-pointer before taking a nice pass from Rose for a layup and Brad Miller followed in a shot during the 11-0 run that put the Bulls up 63-49. They led by 17 after three quarters.

Detroit scrapped in the final quarter and whittled the lead to five with 16 seconds left on Gordon's two free throws before Miller hit a pair from the line to ice it. The Bulls jumped out to a 23-6 lead against the cold-shooting Pistons and led 24-10 at the end of the first quarter. Detroit, missing injured stars Richard Hamilton (ankle), Tayshaun Prince (back) and Charlie Villanueva (broken nose), shot 5-of-20 in the opening period. Chicago led 48-38 at the half behind 13 points from Salmons and 50 percent shooting.

Kuester glad to see Iverson back with Philadelphia
Add another former coach to the list of guys glad to see Allen Iverson back in a 76ers uniform.

Pistons coach John Kuester was an assistant under Larry Brown when Iverson was starring for the Philadelphia earlier this decade.

“First of all, he still has stuff left in his tank,” Kuester said today. “He’s an outstanding competitor and going back to familiar surroundings in Philadelphia. “I’m sure he will get a warm welcome from the Philadelphia people.”

Artest admits drinking, blasts ref
Ron Artest, the often-controversial Los Angeles Lakers forward, told a magazine interviewer he used to drink alcohol at halftime of NBA games. Hennessy is a French cognac. Artest said he drank when he played for the Chicago Bulls, where he played for his first three seasons (1999-2002). He has since played for Indiana, Sacramento, Houston and the Lakers. NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Wednesday: "We have no comment and we hope Ron has a successful season." Bulls center Brad Miller, who played with Artest in Chicago and was traded with him to Indiana in February 2002, was asked if he tought Artest was telling the truth. "Who knows with Ron," Miller said. "You never knew what he was doing at that point."

Artest was a member of the Pacers when he was involved in a fight in Detroit that spilled over into the stands. He was suspended for the rest of the 2004-05 season, which turned out to be 73 games. Artest told the Sporting News that the brawl "wasn't my fault. ... I don't see anything I could have done different." In the article Artest said he's still ready to fight Detroit center Ben Wallace, the player who shoved him on he play that preceeded the brawl with Pistons fans. "He said he wanted to fight me? You all need to check and see if he's still drinking," Wallace said Wednesday night before Detroit's game in Chicago. "He's just running his mouth. You all know who you're talking about. It's Ron Artest, just talking."Artest told the Sporting News that he has tamed his admittedly wild lifestyle, but still likes to "party and I have fun." "When I was a 19-year-old father, whew. I was a single pimp! I was wild," he told the magazine. "A lot of marijuana and alcohol -- even before [that age]. ... I [still] party and I have fun, but not like I used to. I used to drink every night and party every night."

He also criticized NBA referee Joey Crawford, who was on the floor for two games of the 2009 NBA Western Conference semifinals. In Game 2, Artest was ejected after an altercation with Kobe Bryant. In Game 7, Crawford also officiated, and the Lakers won 89-70 to close out the series. "Joey Crawford basically said, 'Who cares about the Houston Rockets? Kobe Bryant is on the floor,'" Artest said, according to the Sporting News. Artest is now in his first year with the Lakers. In the interview, Artest commented on accepting a role in Bryant's supporting cast. "It's weird because people don't think about the whole basketball game," Artest said. "There's offense: Kobe averages 30 and is a great offensive player. Then you have defense. So on defense, now I have my supporting cast. ... I'm one of the best defenders to ever play basketball, so I'm still the first option on defense." A former teammate of Artest isn't buying all of his claims."Consider the source. Since when did he become a credible witness?" he said.

Pistons fall in Ben Gordon's Chicago reunion
Where was the offense going to come from? No Richard Hamilton or Tayshaun Prince. No Charlie Villanueva. And Ben Gordon was less than 100 percent. The situation didn't look promising, and as the evening unfolded, the script went about as expected. With few places to turn to for points, the Pistons lost to the Chicago Bulls, 92-85, on Wednesday night. The Pistons (6-12) shot 38 percent from the floor, trailed 24-10 after one quarter to fall into another early hole, and simply lacked the offense to recover. Hamilton (severely sprained right ankle) and Prince (small ruptured disc), the Pistons have gotten used to not having, given their almost season-long injuries. But Villanueva (broken nose) was a game-time decision. As was Gordon's decision to play, despite a sprained left ankle.

Gordon tested it, though, and decided to play against a team he starred for five seasons. Gordon scored 18 in 30 minutes. But when Gordon entered the game in the first quarter, the former Bull was greeted with mostly boos from the United Center crowd. Rodney Stuckey added 17 points, but was 4-for-16 from the field. "It's frustrating being hurt," said Gordon, who missed two games with the injury, before the game. "I pride myself on not missing any games. Definitely I would have liked to be 100 percent coming here for the first time."

John Salmons scored 22 to lead the Bulls (7-9). Derrick Rose, last season's rookie of the year, had 19 points and six assists. The Pistons cut the Bulls' lead to three points (50-47) early in the third quarter on a Jason Maxiell steal and layup. But the Bulls settled down, and a Salmons 3-pointer and two free throws extended the lead to 61-49 shortly after.
