Re: Glen is close to helping.....
Interestingly, everytime I hear Wyc on the Hill-Man morning show on WAAF (every Wednesday morning) lately, he's been trashing Davis...he did it again this morning. I don't think Wyc likes Baby all that much...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

My hope is that BBD returning = no Scala. I can live with that change.. Likewise I know people hate on him but if Tony Allen keeps Giddens out of games - fine by me.

Re: Glen is close to helping.....
^why can't TA and Giddens bonk heads in practice and keep each other out of games? THAT would be the best of both worlds...

^^^No cause then MD would get hurt and Scal would be our goto 2/3 replacement. Be careful what you wish for.

Glen Davis' 2009 playoff performance was far less than what Sheldon has shown to date.
I'm with Tommy Heinsohn in thinking that it is extremely unlikey that Davis displaces Sheldon.
Davis' NET PER for just the playoffs was NEGATIVE 1.8. Although that's a huge improvement
over his regular season NET PER of NEGATIVE 6.0,
it's not close to Sheldon Williams 2010 NET PER of +4.4.
So, like Tommy Heinsohn says, don't count on Davis displacing Sheldon.
Now, as far as the days when Rasheed is bricking, Davis might see daylight.
His fast hands inside just take possession of the ball. But Rasheed is a pretty decent
straight up post defender,
and Doc RIvers seems to have actually incorporated a few plays for Rasheed down on the
block, forcing Rasheed to do something other than shoot 3. I love it when Doc calls a play
for Rasheed on the block, it might be habit forming for Rasheed.

Baby will definitely beat out Shelden and Scal. He's the most complete player of the 3, even if he is an inferior shooter to scal and a poorer rebounder than shel. You can actually throw it to Baby in the post and get something positive.
Shelden is great, but with a 2nd unit as inflexible as ours, Baby's versatility is badly needed unless we can get some kind of help in a trade.

So Baby is a worse shooter than Scal (!) and a worse rebounder than Shelden, and a worse jumper than both, but he'll "definitely beat out Shelden and Scal ...he's the most complete player of the 3"....OK....

And all throwing it in the post to Baby does is get his ass stuffed when his 4" vertical gets stomped by the opponent's D...remember, this is a guy who got stuffed by THE RIM multiple times last season...(and yes, he *was* great in the playoffs last year, but he's NOT going to be the answer to any bench problems...)
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Baby's got the best mix of offensive and defensive skills. Scal and Shel are specialists. Scal won't give you anything but Js and smart D on quick 4s and Shel won't give you anything but rebounding, an occasional block and wide-open dunks. Baby has proven that he can make something positive happen with the ball, something that can't be said for the other 2, and he doesn't have the huge holes in his game that Scal and Shel do. I'm not a huge fan, and I especially don't like his rebounding, but I'm positive Doc will like the relative versatility he brings.

Re: Glen is close to helping.....
I'm looking forward to having Baby back and his versatility (limited as it is) will only be an asset. But I think it's ludicrous (and unfair) to bench Shelden and give Baby all of his minutes...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Re: Glen is close to helping.....
As you saw last night Sheed will get more touches inside cause Davis is about ready to return. Williams is about ready to get his minutes cut. If Tony is ready so JR's time and Scal's minutes are gone and it wouldn't surprise me to see a possible trade. Sheed and Davis will have a nice combo to torture other teams 2nd units.

over his regular season NET PER of NEGATIVE 6.0,
it's not where close to Sheldon Williams 2010 NET PER of +4.4.
The problem with this analysis is that BBD in the playoffs went against start caliber players on top level teams and S. Williams is playing against regular season backups on average teams. <g> I like NET PER but it's not some kind of argument ending stat.
I do agree S. Williams deserves minutes. Maybe BBD can find some time at the 4 and 5 slots and heck if he loses weight he might find some time at the 3 spot. We could finally have that power 3 (albeit against backup players in certain matchups)..
