Kevin Martin: Drop or Trade?

Post#1 » by DeShaunRed » Fri Dec 4, 2009 3:11 pm

Hi guys,

Would love to have your take on this one.

I'm currently ahead of my league by a hairline after winning wining my match-ups (H2H format) by 1 or 2. I'm currently on top of the league with a thin lead and I have a bad feeling 2-3 teams are going to overtake soon. This happened after Kevin Martin and Jameer Nelson went down because of injuries. Match-up by match-up, my team performance has declined overtime.

I can only drop/add one spot. Here's my lineup:

Steve Nash
Beno Udrih
Ben Gordon
Luke Ridnour
Thaddeus Young
Ronnie Brewer
Dirk Nowitzki
Nene Hilario
Brendan Haywood
Emeka Okafor

Util: Jason Williams
Util: Quentin Richardson >> to be dropped soon for next game

BN: Jameer Nelson (INJ)
BN: Kevin Martin (INJ)
BN: Kevin Love (INJ)

I tried putting a combination of players headlined by Jameer Nelson recently but most fantasy managers inquire about Kevin Martin, who does not have a timetable yet for his return from injury.

To this, I've put Kevin Martin on the trading block.

So, is this a rational idea or am I being too panicky? You think Kevin Martin is worth keeping?

Thanks a lot guys!

Pre, huwag mo munang idrop yan. :D

What's the rush with dropping him when you're in the lead? It would be a nightmare if you'd lose in this league because the team who is currently in the 2nd place got K-mart and ended up winning the league because of a difference maker like K-mart. Remember, at the end of the day, K-mart is a top 30 fantasy player. And what he suffered isn't a season ending injury. He'd most probably be back around jan. or feb.

Who are the players in your waiver list? Maybe you can afford to drop Udrih or Nelson since it seems like you got the PG position covered.

I disagree. I don't think any players outside of your 1st round pick is worth holding on for 2 months of injury. You can at least let them go for a month and pick them back up 3-4 weeks out. Most managers are not going to drop a producing player for someone that will give them nothing. I had Martin and dropped him immediately for Salmons (who got waived). I will pick Martin back up but not until at least January or later. I'll be shocked if anyone trades you anything for your injured players though.

Whatever you do don't drop him. In a worst case scenario trade him, but I'd continue to hold him until / unless your team starts really slipping in the rankings.

Plus if you're in first with Martin not playing, imagine how good your team would be when he is playing.

If holding onto Martin say costs you the 1st seed and you end up 5th, so what if you have the best team!

Keep him, I'm actually going to try to trade for him in my league in about 2 weeks. Thinking Tyreke Evans maybe for him.

Fantasy BBall Rule #1893: "If you drop an injured top-player now, and you aren't able to pick him back up when get get healthy, he WILL come back to kick your ass later."

Fantasy Rule #1894: If you keep injured players that are out 2+ month then there is a good chance you won't make the playoffs.

Salamat pare.

As for the Fantasy Rules. Never really thought they exist. Link?

Thanks for the heads up guys. Appreciate it. I'm definitely keeping Kevin Martin now. I think all I need are a bunch of reasons to keep him. Hah!

Thanks again!

I thought Kevin Martin was only out for like 8 weeks. December return seemed likely?

At least 8 weeks from Nov 6th. So expect mid Jan return.

Good news is that it wasn't his shooting arm.

Completely (Please Use More Appropriate Word). If there were any smart people in your league they'd pick him up ASAP and make fun of you in a few weeks when their team is kicking ass.
