Terrible news. He was finally making strides, and now another setback. And with the dearth of really good centers in the league at the moment, Greg Oden's continuing improvement can only be good for the NBA as a whole. Hopefully it's not too serious and he's back soon.

I hope it's not serious..

The only thing that really worries me is that a hyper-extension(best case) usually is always a result of a bad twist or bend..

I didn't see either of those..which makes me think ACL..unfortunately.

Or possibly dislocation..

can you dislocate a kneecap? I think that might be what happened.

Looks like a textbook patellar dislocation. He's done for the season.

It looks like a dislocated kneecap from the video, but it could just be the angle which makes his kneecap look weird.

Same injury that Bynum had the first time.

Wow that really sucks, he was coming into a nice player. Hope it's nothing too serious.

Is it the same knee he had surgery on?

Yeah I think thats what happened to Bynum his first injury

Damn...that really sucks. Always sucks to see good talent go down because of injury, even if it is a conference rival. Best wishes to Oden and Portland, and hopefully its nothing serious, and if it is, hopefully he'll bounce back in the future and not be talented wasted due to injuries (Grant hill, Penny)

Oden's way too nice of guy to not feel bad for when he gets hurt like this. And he was just getting into stride this year. Looked like a star in some games.

It looks bad from the way he reacted but hopefully it isn't. His kneecap is what looked weird in the video.

That looked pretty bad. I couldn't see his kneecap :(

MAnn that really sucks for PDX fans, and Oden.

It couldn't have been something minor, one of the trainers or somebody was covering up his knee with a towel so Oden couldn't see it.

I wish him the best...he has a bright future. It'd be a shame for injures to change that.

I would HATE to see any player's career diminished due to injuries. All the best to Oden and hope he recovers.

This season has been awful. We have 6 guys out from injury.

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone would take pleasure in seeing Oden's career derailed over and over. I'm not a Blazers fan, but I've been looking forward to watching him dominate since he was in grade 11, for ****'s sake.

It leaves you with an empty feeling knowing that his body could be toast long before his 25th birthday; the NBA can't have too many great players.

That's a damn shame. You never want to see anyone get injured.

I don't know what this means for his career or the Blazers but I hope he will be okay in the long run. He's still very young even though he looks 45. He can still have a good, long career. Look at Camby. This guy was injured so many times people thought he was done but he was a beast in Denver after that. Hopefully the same happens with Greg.

Man this blows for Portland.

Didn't Mutombo's career end last year against the Blazers as well?

Yeah, I remember that. There were a lot of posters seemingly happy about it happening to Bynum and saying "karma".

I'm not Doctor J, but the knee did look odd to me. They didn't perform surgery on Bynum's injury which lent to a long period of doubt as to when he would return. They initially told us that it was a rather minor injury. When they thought he was recovered, they worked him out and each time it would swell up. Later they found rough spots on the back of the patella that was irritating other parts of his knee and they had to go in and shave them down.

He never came back after January and they played all the way til Gm6 of the Finals. Something for Portland fans to mull.
