OT - Oden out for year with broken patella

Yikes. Very sad to see a player like Oden so plagued by injuries. He was starting to pull it together more this season and then this happens. Off the court he seems like a great guy with a good sense of humor, so it's a shame to see his career potentially in jeopardy with all these injuries.

Gotta feel for this guy. What does this do to the Blazers (12-8) for the rest of the season? With 60 games left I say they win just over 30 and finish-out around .500. That's tough, they looked like possible contenders. This doesn't bode well for Oden's career either. Really bad news for Portland.

I was watching this game and knew it was serious as soon as the Houston Rockets trainer raced onto the court. Terrible news. Ive always wanted Oden to succeed, and to see this type of injury again is just plain sad.

He is only 21. He career is not in jeopardy IMO. He just needs to get healthy, and stronger. He has plenty of time left, and he will be given MANY opportunities still. If he is still getting injuries by 25, then he is probably done. Best of luck to Greggy and hopefully he can get back on the court this year still.

P.S. Aren't you glad we didn't get that #1 pic? We would suck for 10 more years if we did..(unless we picked Durant, which I really think we wouldn't have)..

Part of his knee is broken. For anyone with Osgood slaughter disease like me... from the reports it seems like that, except at all once and instead of gradual pulling away of the bone and it's complete separation.

And the way it happened... all on it's own. It's telling of Oden's body... and it's not a good foreshadowing. This will hamper his freak athleticism and may be another sign he'll never be what he could of been.

His injury reminded me of TA's. The second he went to the ground, you just knew his season was done. Poor kid.

Greg Oden has done this:

This). Broken his wrist.

This). Torn his knee and undergone microfracture surgery.

This). Twisted his ankle several times

And, This). Sprained his foot. several times

Now this) Broken patella

Here is a fork, you know what to do with it, sucks cause he is from Indiana and I have met this giant several times and have to be honest he is a hell of a nice guy, all the luck for Portland and his career..

I was extremely worried about his proneness to injuries before the lottery. I am happy in the end we didn`t have to make a decision between him and Durant. I feel bad for him but it really looks like his career will be more defined by his injuries than his game...

And trading Pierce? Idk..at the time most people wanted Oden, and a team with Oden, Perkins and Big Al as frontcourt players is damn solid IMO.

The Blazers are my second favorite team in the league, have been since the 90s, and this has just been so incredibly disappointing. I feel so bad for him, I really don't even want to think about basketball right now. I can't even look at the Celtics the same way at the moment. He was really beasting this year and I just wanted to see him prove his critics wrong. I really, really hope that one day his career gets straightened out, a nice guy like him deserves it.

Osgood Schlatter is fragmentation of the tibial tubercle/apophysis; Oden fractured his patella, so it's kind of hard to compare the two. Osgood Schlatter is a different kind of thing, more a chronic gradual thing rather than an acute fx

What the hell does strength have to do with it? His bones break on their own. By stronger, do you mean he should start taking Boniva and Evista?

Maybe the Osgood Slaughter is the kneecap variety of Osgood Schlatter.

:o :o :o :o

feel bad for oden. DO NOT feel bad for blazers fans. i know realgm isn't "all" fans of one team, but can anyone recall lotto selection night. where the celtics board had to be locked down completely because of portland fans laughing at us and saying "that's what u get for tanking"

well "that's what u get for acting like jackasses that u got lucky and got oden"
