This was the team I grew up watching. Really brings back memories. It's actually kind of crazy to think of how douchebaggy they were. I mean, Shaq, a young, immature Kobe, and Van Exel on the same team? And they had Rodman for a time too.

I miss that team. Great, solid, 50-60 win team. A few bounces and Jordan-less years here and there, and LA would have likely managed to snag a ring or two in the 90s. Its all good especially considering we've handled this decade to make up for it.

I remember that! Would that have been a college three point lay up by Eddie Jones?

I love the athleticism. Especially Shaq and Kobe. Just flat out disgusting. I also miss that swagger from Nick.
It's also nice to know the team got serious later and started winning championships.

That 97 team was one of my favorites...lol at Shaq pretending to choke PJ Carlesimo forgot about that.
Thank you, Phil.

Re: Cool Mix of the 90s Lakers
It was exciting when we had Nick the quick, Jones & Cedric w/ Divac at center but it wasnt exactly as good then as it is w/ Kobes Lakers. When we had that team & Shaq + Kobe they never seemed to gel the right way. But it was a good team.
A different coach might have won more play-off games with that team
80s Laker teams
2000-2002 Lakers
2004 Lakers (I still blame the injuries)
2009 - ? Lakers

Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Re: Cool Mix of the 90s Lakers
I wonder how Phil would have done with a starting lineup of:
Shaquille O'Neal
Elden Campbell
Kobe Bryant
Eddie Jones
Nick Van Exel
Actually, I'm not sure that would work with Eddie and Kobe playing the same position. Stick Fox at the 3 and have someone come off the bench?
I became a fan in 99-00 so can someone tell me how the 97-98 squad would have done in the triangle offense or how Phil would have coached this team?

Great mix. I'm surpsied by the athletic ability of Eddie Jones there. He looked like a young version of Kobe Bryant himself.
Shaq ofcourse was his dominant self when he was hungry for that 1st title.

As a kid I use to always mix them up during games. The "6" and "8" didn't make it much easier either.

Thank you, Phil.

Everytime I see those old vids, I always think we should've kept those uniforms.
