Ricciardi says Roy Halladay wants out

J.P. Ricciardi says Roy Halladay wants out of Toronto.

In the most unambiguous statement yet on the ace right-hander's feelings, the former Blue Jays general manager told SIRIUS XM Radio's MLB Home Plate channel that Halladay was ready to move on in the summer, and still is now.

"We wanted to trade Roy and Roy wanted to be traded [in the summer], as he does now. I think there's no secret that he would like to be traded," Ricciardi said Wednesday according to a transcript provided by the satellite radio service.

"I don't know how committed, at the end, our ownership group was to doing it. I will be honest with you, we did not get an offer that really made us sit there and say 'Wow, this is worth trading Roy Halladay for."'

New Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos, who replaced Ricciardi on the final weekend of the 2009 season, declined to comment.

Those rumours around the all-star break sorta f***ed Roy's season up.

Ricciardi always talks out his a$$, so I'm not inclined to believe him.

Sure, Halladay seems like he would want to be traded, but I dunno if he's actively looking to leave. He strikes me as more classy than that.

It's probably more of a case of "if you trade me, fine, otherwise I'm gonna give it all I got until the end of my contract".

Ricciardi might just be trying to mess up Toronto's situation. He never did strike me as someone loyal to the franchise.

it just sucks because i know everyone out there is going to try to low ball the new gm...and i hope he has the nuts to tell them to go eff themselves...

we need an all-star caliber player in return for one of the top three pitchers in baseball...

and i don't care what the yankees or redsox offer, i don't ever want to see roy back in the al east if he's not a jay....

Not news. Blair said the same thing a long time ago, towards the beginning of the season. Halladay doesn't want to come out and say it himself because of the ensuing negative optics, but he's basically demanded a trade. This is nothing new.

there was an interview with Roy's wife during one of the Jays' games. this was when the rumours were going strong and it was also when she was organizing the players' wives' food drive.

she was on the air and she started to cry when talking about the drive, saying how she knows this could be her last time organizing it.

that was a clear sign to me that Roy wanted out. she wouldn't be crying over rumours.

+1

He has absolutely ZERO credibility and should not be inferring anything or putting words in Halladay's mouth. If anything J.P. should be publicly stating why he failed as a GM to produce a winning team on the field, the context of which centres around not extending Halladay beyond 2011.

But see the reason he wants out..is something that is understandable..I give him so much credit for still giving 110% for a losing cause..
I mean can you really ask for more?!?!
Its not like he is forcing his way out or is dogging it..
He just wants to be part of a championship team before he leaves..and unfortunately thats not gonna happen with the jays any time soon

Nothing big here. Whole world knows Halladay wants to move on, and we all know JP wanted to trade him. Always said ownership just didn't trust JP to make this trade, so basically handcuffed him after probably giving him the go ahead to explore trade opportunities.
