Driving up to a game...

Post#1 » by Optimism Prime » Mon Dec 7, 2009 4:42 pm

Hey all,

I'm usually on the Rockets board, since that's where I'm from originally. I live in Iowa now, and am driving up to the Wolves-Magic game on New Years Day.

Couple questions:

-Who all's going to be there? Any way to have a RealGM meetup?
-What's good to see/do in the Twin Cities? The girlfriend and I will be there for a couple days at least... I know The Mall, of course, but anything else?
-Any good restaurants to eat at? An alum from my college is a manager at Brit's Pub, so that might be a stop...

Hit me up with anything else I should know. :D

It has grown so cold in Minnesota that no one actually lives up here, I mean there, anymore. We've all moved south until the ice age is over.

Not me. I moved north. But I'm just a rebel like that. I like to hunt mammoths.

O.P. when did you move out of Houston. I moved from there in '91. You should become a Wolves fan. Our team sucks but we have the best board on RealGM.

Lived in Houston/The Woodlands from '83-'02... started college then, so went back for the summers. That was dumb.

And I have no trouble cheering for any of the teams near me (MIN/MIL/CHI), but my loyalty is with the hometown team, sorry. ;)

Also, the people on the Rockets board are great, the constant Knick "trades" are not. I get the feeling you guys can sympathize.

Welcome, brother.

Yes, yes we can sympathize.

Anyway, it's kind of hard to answer your questions without knowing the kinds of stuffs you like to do...

Even then, if you say "I'd like to check out some bars", which kind of bars do you like to go to? Dirty dives? Meat Market clubs? Hoighty rich people bars? Eating is the same thing.

That said, Minneapolis is the home to The Best Bar in America (as declared by Esquire Magazine), Nye's Polonaise Room. If you like your drinks stiff and your crowds diverse, go there.

I'd also like to use this opportunity to pimp one of my favorite restaurants right now, The Weinery in West Bank Mpls. http://www.wienery.com/
The have really cheap and REALLY good food. Here's how cool it is... you order your fries based on how many potatoes you want them to use. Also, if you somehow end up in jail, you can go here afterwards and they'll give you a free meal in exchange for your jail ID card.

Good thread. I hope you collect a lot of nice places to visit.

I plan to visit MPLS in a few years but first I gotta earn some bucks -.-
