Xavier Henry comparison

Post#1 » by hotshotschamp » Sun Dec 6, 2009 10:36 pm

Michael Redd in his prime, or pre-injury???

He could fill it up behind the arc, score 20, with some rebounds and assists.

What do you think is a good comparison for Xavier Henry for when he hits his prime.

Henry has a nba body at 18....don't see that everyday.

I more so meant compared on their offense, i know Redd can't play D.

Watchin him today, he doesn't seem to do much, but stand by 3 pt line and wait for a shot. Also doesn't seem all that athletic, seen a guy or two beat him in a race for the ball. While he has a nba body, and a great shot, I don't see him offering up much more than that. Then again he's just a freshman, I dunno what to make of this kid.

How are you tying physical maturity to a low ceiling? Makes no sense to me.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Yeah I'm not sure I agree with that either..Lebron had a NBA body at 17 but still improved a ton.

I just think Henry relies to much on his 3 pt shot, and isn't active enough in other facets of the game though.

He reminds me of former jayhawk Brandon Rush, with much more potential/athleticism.

He's only a freshman and young for his class. You honestly think that he's near his ceiling? Most freshman spend their freshman year trying to find a niche, but he's wasted no time establishing himself as a shooter. He may not dominate in other facets of the game, but hardly any 1st year players do.

Lefty Ray Allen?

Nevermind the last post. Ray Ray is a bad comparison, I came up with a better one... James Harden.

I really don't know who to compare him too. Maybe Micheal Finley?

michael finley when he came into the league, was a pretty good athletic specimen, i'm not sure this kid is on par with that.

But shooting wise he's similar if not a little better at the same age.

people rate Xavier Henry way higher than everyone else he's projected post lottery in nearly every mock ive seen

havent gotten a good look at his personally so i cant really make a judgement my gut tells me he is more of late teens/twenties guy though hes pretty much described as a projected shooting specialist and not the Ray Allen kind

again ill withhold real judgment for now

edit: hes moved up in a lot of mocks so maybe hes the real deal but see above

He's a tough one to grasp for me....

He's got great size, nba body, amazing shot.

But I just don't see his athleticism and ability to guard tough nba 2's and create his own shot, and make players around him better.

Seems like when I watch him he's always just chilling at the 3 pt lane, waiting for a kickout. He seems kinda 1 dimensional to me. I dunno.....he could prove me wrong.

^ Ya Webster isn't a bad one. I don't like the James Harden comparison. Henry is much less polished and nowhere near the playmakers Harden is.

Game-wise, I like the Harden comparison, even though Xavier is still more agile and versatile. For example, Xavier could play small forward, whereas Harden is a pure 2.

it took a while for harden to become the player that he is, plus henry is surrounded by more talent and doesnt have the responsibilities that harden had in college.
both are somewhat underwhelming athletes. lefty shooters with sweet strokes, good body strength and solid feel for the game. henry might not be the playmaker that harden is, but harden wont be the shooter that henry could be given henry's better size and lift on his shots. henry has also shown better signs of being able to shoot better while on the move and from mid-range.
given their differences i still think they'll primarily be outside shooters who'll be able to set up their drives via threat of the shot (despite their avg ball-handling skills), while also having the body strength and enough bounce to finish around the hoop. both lack great lateral quickness, but can make up for that defensively through their strength, length and feel.

im just not really digging the martell webster comparison cuz martell's billed as a shooter, but he isnt even that good of a shooter. i htink xavier will be a much better, more versatile shooter.
