Curtis Granderson to the Yanks*its official*

Post#1 » by truth serum » Tue Dec 8, 2009 8:22 pm

Hey mods....can you at least let this simmer on the board for an hour or so? I want to see people's reactions to this trade and no one is talking about it on the Yankees forum because no one really goes there in general.

Anyway, it's not official....but the proposed 3-way trade has us giving up Ian Kennedy, Phil Coke AND Austin Jackson for this guy. Great player at a position of need, but we give up a lot IMO. Austin Jackson is someone who would have facilitated a trade for Roy Halladay. According to ESPN, this is is pretty close to getting done.

its a done deal. Great deal for the yanks. AJax is the only valuable piece and Granderson is better than Jackson ever will be

His splits are gross, but his left-handed prowess is a good look with the short porch in right.

I don't mind giving up AJax, though I think he was a key piece in a Halladay deal. Hopefully talks are still on the table, but I don't want the Jays demanding Montero now as a starting point. This move gives us some leverage with Damon as well. I like this deal more and more as I think about it.

Solid move.

Come on. AJax' ceiling is maybe Granderson.
I'm with you on AZ though.

in the beginning of the off season, i was thinking this was gonna be a salary dump deal... i cant believe cashman is gonna give up so much...

Granderson's best yr was 07, when he hit 302... his average has gone down more than 20 points every year after that.... plus hes gonna strike out a 150 times... this is gonna end bad... hes gonna have a slow start in NY, he'll get boo'd, and bat .200 the rest of the way... and then get benched...

as a person who follows the minor league like a religion ... jackson isn't good, he was a product of being overhyped by cashman which i give kudos to him because he suckers gm into thinking those prospects are good. jackson had no power and strikes out a lot ... he also doesn't draw walks.

low walks + high strikeouts = not a good player ... look at cameron maybin, he's not doing anything.

montero, betances, and hughes are the ones i care about ... the rest are meh for them and will probably be mentioned 30 times every year by cashman which is called the 'hype' effect.

the real winners are the tigers ... verlander, porcello, and scherzer ... diamondbacks are a bowl of fail.

I know granderson is good, but remember he did 249 last yr, and struck out 150 times... i would still love to have him, but not at the expense of ajax... were doin detroit a favor by taking his contract off their hands

Coke sucks, and Jackson if he reaches all of his pot probably wont be the player Granderson is.

exactly. Montero is going to be a stud. Becantes is raw and has a future, and Joba + Hughes in the 4/5 spots next year will be fun to watch. AJax was overrated.

its a pretty good trade...ajax's ceiling is granderson with less power...coke sucked at the end of the year...kennedy sucks...granderson hit 30 home runs last year he is only 29 and is in his prime great trade

i get u guys... ajax will probably never be as good as granderson, but i still think we could have gotten a better deal here... i know we would eventually trade ajax, but i thought we could do better than granderson...

Short porch...35 homers or more with a ton of doubles to boot. This deal was great. Ian Kennedy needed a change of scenery and was beginning to look seriously injury prone. Coke really wasn't necessary with our RP prospects throughout the minors and Damaso Marte as a superior option. Then you have Jackson, who was a good young talent, but not ever going to be a star and just a solid player.

wouldn't say that yet ... joba and hughes are good reliever and they're bad starters.

joba was never good ... his control is horrid, he should be a reliever and that's that ... what you saw from hughes out of the bullpen is something you shouldn't believe in as a starter ... he was airing it out and letting it go. still though he's gonna be a good starter but probably not as effective as he was out of the bullpen.

its a great deal, but i think we overpaid still... detroit was desperate to trade his contract... i think we could have kept ajax and still managed to pull off the trade... use ajax as a chip later...
