Donaghy Book Excerpt

Wow...Poor Raja. I don't know how much I believe Donaghy, but he's either telling the truth or has a very specific imagination.

I hardly think anything is surprising here... except maybe the actual calculation "Kobe has 2 fouls."

yeah, i read this a while back... nothing surprising. anyone who has been watching the NBA playoffs since stern took over the league can see this all makes sense. all my friends i grew up watching ball with always thought these things. i remember most of the games he mentions in those blurbs and they were all blatant biased officiating at the time. while i may disagree with donaghy's motives and what he did, and while he may have embellished some of this stuff to sell books, none of it seems far fetched to me. i hope his book gets getting attention. then finally i can maybe watch a playoff series between a star studded team/big market team vs a small market team w/out thinking that each call is some sort of conspiracy.

I don't think anyone who watched the Lakers-Kings conference Final or the Heat-Mavs final could not think there is something fishy going on. Between that and the Sonics, David Stern is a truly evil man....

I saw him say that on Outside the Lines and 60 minutes a couple days ago. I personally think that most refs can put personal feelings aside. I have worked with and known MANY MLB umpires and they are all super professional and never let personal feelings cloud the calls.

I guess perhaps I am naive. I am not much of a conspiracy theorist by nature so while I always knew there were some personal issues that are involved, I was surprised that games were manipulated that frequently and easily. This whole thing is extremely disappointing to me.

I admit I don't know much about baseball but basketball is pretty good sport to make favourable calls in comparison to other sports. Because every foul counts, foultrouble happens, there are situations which can be called both ways, you can actualy help a lot a bit subtle way. In some other sports you would have to do it in more blatant manner.

And surely not many sports has so inluenceable spreads, which is what matter for Timothy.

I can think of a ton of counter-examples based on what I've seen... I bet there is some truth to what Donaghy is saying but he's twisting it to cause controversy, sell his book, and fill his pocket.
