Rondo Inventing New Pass (I think)

Post#1 » by Ricky_is_god » Wed Dec 9, 2009 10:03 pm

I've noticed Rondo trying to do a particular pass in the last two games that I've never seen before. In the game against the Thunder, and last night, It looked like Rondo Tried to spin the ball forward on a bounce pass while on the run.

We all know you can spin the ball and make it turn when it hits the floor on a bounce pass. But Rondo is trying to turn it a way I've never seen.

Both plays were similar, and I'm sure some of you noticed it. In the Thunder game, it happened right around that stretch when Rondo had those three assists in a row to KG dunks. Rondo was running up the right side of the court on a fast break and tried to make a bounce pass to Pierce running down the left. He kind of jumps, swings his arm down as he throws a bounce bass to pierce. In both cases, as soon as the ball hit the floor, it shot way up in the air, and Pierce had to reach an grab it above his head. In both cases there was a defender stepping into the lane in between them, and I think Rondo was trying to make the ball spin around the defender, so it would lead Pierce to the hoop; but that he just had the angle of the spin wrong, so it bounced up.

I have no idea if this is true, but I don't see any other reason that the pass would look so odd, and come off the floor so weird, unless rondo was trying to do something ridiculous. And this would be, I don't think I've ever seen it before.

Anyone else notice those plays? I think I might have come to this conclusion just based on how creative Rondo has been with his passes over the last few games. There were a couple I can remember actually brought me up out of my chair.

I think I know what you're talking about and if so, Nash makes the same kind of pass. Very nifty.

On another subject, I hope you mean Ricky Gervais and not Ricky Davis ;

started as davis when I was young and naive, but at this point its a pretty open interpretation. Gervais, Bobby, Schroder...its all good.

I remember the Kevin Garnett one where after it KG passed it to Ray Allen for an easy 2.

Rondo was standing sideways and threw is underhanded almost for a bounce pass, and it look like it jumped a little in one place, maybe he jumped backwards from the bounce, towards KG.

I only recall because I thought it had some weird kind of spin.

But after knowing Jason Kidd has been in the league for 14 years I don't think it's possible Rondo is trying something that Kidd hasn't done many times.

I doubt Nash, Kidd or the Cooz haven't done some variation of the move.

My fav rondo pass is the one where he passes it off the rim to an opposition forward, he makes it look as though he is shooting a free throw......

Speaking of passes, I wonder if there will ever be a player that can revive the pass at the end of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k5II3Bn ... re=related

Looks like it would be dangerous for your wrists though.

give me the ball no....priceless eat air man

Rondo has some amazing passes no doubt about it, my fav's are those tight lane passes that seem impossible to to get to are man mostly to pierce and kg I've seen him try it with perk he's muffed it a few times.

I dunno if anyone caught it last night against the Wiz when Rondo just crossed over half court and went with the one hand bounce pass that was an absolute lazer to Shelden Williams, was a tad low though and Shelden couldn't handle it cleanly and eventually got fouled I think, or lost it. Either way, was a beautiful pass.
