I think Perkins should get some serious All-Star consideration but I know that he won't. It's too bad because he's having a great season. The other issue is that even if he was clearly deserving of a selection, he probably still wouldn't make it because it's not PC to select any team's entire starting 5 in this game. Rondo looks poised to make it this year and we have to assume KG and Pierce will make it. Ray Allen? Maybe, but again, it's not politically correct to put 4 guys on the team. Anyway, I think there are five legitimate centers in the East and, of that group, two will likely be chosen:
Dwight Howard, Andrew Bogut, Brook Lopez, Shaq and Perk
As always, maybe the bigger problem will be defining "center". Maybe Chris Bosh and Al Horford are considered centers, I'm not sure. But, anyway, what's the argument for or against Perk making the All-Star team? I think he has a pretty good case and deserves a shot, but I also doubt it will happen.
Perk the All-Star?

That's like saying Eric Dampier the Allstar. And I'm not saying that to demean Perks value, I'm just saying he's not an all star.

Brook Lopez should be an all-star for having to start 10+ games alongside the likes of Trenton Hassell and Rafer Alston.

Re: Perk the All-Star?
As long as Dwight's in the East, Perk will never be an all star. Only way he gets in is if the crop's that bad that he gets voted in by default. Otherwise they'd just give it to another power forward.
Brook Lopez deserves to be in it this year and Bogut deserves it more than Perk. Shaq, not so much. Perk's a great complementary center, but he should never be in the all star game.

Re: Perk the All-Star?
I'm one of the biggest Perk supporters, but being that the ASG is about name rather than impact, (hence the reason guys like AI and T-Mac and Shaq are poised to make it), there are many centers in the east that are putting up better "numbers" than Perk. C's fans know his importance to our team, but the majority of fans look at stats. I think a more viable accomplishment should be him making one of the all defensive team this year which he truly deserves.

It's not just about the lack of popularity for Perk. There are just better centers than him in the East. And his play benefits from having the team that he has around him.
With that said, I love how much he's come along from his rookie year. He's become a vital part of this team.

I'm a big fan of Perk - any chance you guys would consider swapping him for Boozer?

Boozer vs Perk in 1-on-1, I think Boozer is better. But Perk is a better fit for us than Boozer. I also think that Boozer is a better fit for the Jazz than Perk. You guys need a big time low-post scorer since Okur is more of a jumpshooter, which Perk isn't. And we need a big-time banger and a defender, not so much a scorer, which IMO, Perk is better at than Boozer.

There maybe better centers statistically in the east, but not many of them have the impact Perk has for their respective roles, thus they find themselves on losing teams. Yes, Perks play benefits from having HoF's on the team but throughout the season he has been the only steady constant on our squad and his numbers are a production of his execution, yes it is made easier because of the HoF's but it is still up to him to execute. Also couldn't the same be said about Rondo or anyone else not in the Big 3 and Sheed. Until they prove it by themselves the we won't truly know! With limited touches offensively he is putting up great numbers with the #1 FG%, better then Howard who just dunks the ball on everyone and we all know about his D (I wish he would attack the glass more though). ASG's are for names and stats, a good barometer of Perks recognition among his peers would be the All-Defensive teams!

You are absolutely right. Perk has been a beast all season and does deserve some consideration as he does all the little things that don't appear on box scores exceptionally well. Thus, I think he's a great fit for the Celtics, but I just think there are better centers in the East. And the FG% argument is a bit skewed, IMO. D-Howard is one of their main offensive weapons. Therefore when he gets the ball in the post, the entire team collapses on him to prevent him from just turning around and dunking. OTOH, when Perk gets the ball in the post, he usually can go against his guy 1-on-1. Also with HoF players around, he's not getting as much attention from the other teams, resulting in easier shots.
