I have an issue with Granger

Post#1 » by greenway84 » Thu Dec 10, 2009 6:34 pm

There I said it out loud. Now I know I'm going to get scalded for speaking ill about our franchise player. But to me "it seems" like ever since Danny made the All-Star team and won MIP he's changed. I don't mean in a good way. I'm not basing this off stats or anything. Just by watching all the games this season. He seems a bit like a pre-modona. I'm not sure if that's spelled right. aside from the 5 game win streak he hasn't made defense an issue. I dare say he seems a bit like a stat guy, and not a guy looking to do what it takes to win games. You can say what you want about the supporting cast, but still. He has enough talent as shown last year to win games. I just don't like what he has become in my eyes so far this season.

On a side not I'm sick and tired of Rush's ho hum attitude. Actually everyone besides Dahntay seems to be a little ho hum.

Your're kinda right Danny has played like crap for 15 games this season, but i think it was more frustration and injury more than it is that he has changed. I really think he would have played a lot better if Mikey D would have been healthy - Danny would have gotten better looks.

Danny played injured and without Mikey last year when he was making a push for a new contract.

"Prima Donna"

Danny's frustration shows, it's not really being a brat. If my team wasn't able to generate offense in the 4th quarter when I'm being double-teamed, I'd be a bit ticked. His performance probably frustrates him the most.

I don't see the ho-hum in Rush. I see him pulling back jumpers and releasing late on stuff he should just shoot in rhythm.

Hansbrough and Foster and Price and Dunleavy and Watson don't look ho-hum to me. Wait a second, did I just list the team that should be our starting lineup? Maybe replace Price with Dahntay. Yeah...it could work!!!!

I'd be perfectly fine with us starting

Foster
Hansbrough
Granger
Dunleavy
Watson/Price

Not my ideal starting 5 but when it comes to the players we have, I'd take those guys over any other 5 that we have. If Hibbert could get back to playing like he did early in the season, I'd replace him with Foster.

I like that starting 5. I think if you start Foster he can average 10 rpg easily which we need. It might give Roy a wake up call to start playing again like he knows he can. Mike is a better player than Rush is since Rush cant do anything.

I think Danny's D sucks because he is focusing on offense more.

He got a new contract 1 game into the season last year so it's not like that was his motive for playing well all year last year

I don't see this at all!

Danny has a torn right plantar fascia. This is not a minor injury that he should play thru, as for him being a Prima Donna I just don't know where this stuff comes from?

Danny doesn't enjoy losing and as a result is pissy during the games, I'll buy it Miller4ever.

Now that Granger is elite, he needs to remember to lift the play of his teammates by becoming a better leader.

I don't think Greenway is saying his beef is with Danny for sitting with the torn Plantar Fascia. I think he is talking about his play before the injury. Perhaps his choice of words (primadonna) was a lil poor, but the jist of his point is valid. Danny has been "careless or passive" this season.

Example: Including the game he was injured and only managed 3 attempts, he is averaging 8.6 three point attempts a game. The next closest player with atleast 5 games played this year is only averaging 6.7 attempts per game. While I don't mind him having that many attempts, because as everyone say Obie's offensive scheme loves the three point shot. It bothers me that between 2-4 of those attempts per game don't seem to come within the flow of the offense. They seem to be 'forced' - sometimes he is trying to single handedly stop the other teams run (b/c his coach doesn't effectively call timeouts), sometimes it seems like he is trying to go point for point with the man he is guarding, & sometimes he is probably try to 'pad' his stats.

As the anointed leader and on of the veterans of the team, I would rather see he 'wise' up and either drive to the basket for a higher percentage shot/free throws or get his teammates involved.

Interesting:
Compared to last season, Danny's FG%, 3pt%, FT%, and PPG are all down and his turnovers are up.
But his defensive rebounding and steals are up! If he is 'focusing' on offense, I'd say Greenway's theory is supported. Danny has has a lack of 'focus' (primadonna) on the offensive end this season.

Or maybe he's doing it to show he's grown tired of O'Brien. "This is the system you want to run? This is what you want me to do? Fine, here. How you like this three? And this one. And this one. You're not going to bench me. Look at TJ and Murph."

I'll believe that theory before I believe Danny has developed into a chucking, self-entitled and selfish player.

If you guys remember, when O'Brien got his extension there was a report that a couple players were unhappy with the decision. I can't help but wonder if Danny was one of those players.

That and he said the pain on his heel felt like "someone was pounding on it with a hammer" every time he walked.

There's a lot of reasons why he isn't playing like last season, but Danny is the least of our problems.

How is he supposed to play decent (much less good) he can't get more than 18 minutes a game!
