How about signing Delgado to a cheap 1 year deal to be our DH so that he can hit his 500th career HR in the same uniform that most of them came in?

As much as I would love to see Carlos back here, the DH spot would be better used seeing if either Ruiz or Dopirak can be productive major league players.

Not that Arguelles is any sure thing, but we're in danger of getting lapped by the also-rans if the organization doesn't start opening the wallet for player development.

After an especially slow start to this four-day session, Day Two of the Winter Meetings opens with some news from the Blue Jays.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos has confirmed Rod Barajas declined the Blue Jays offer of salary arbitration before last night's midnight deadline. This means that if and when the free agent catcher signs with another club, the Jays will receive a compensatory pick in the 2010 draft.

We Rule V'd Zechry Zinicola from the Nationals, a kid who'll be 25 come Spring Training and has been a steaming pile of meh in his minor league career, has generally imploded whenever exposed to AAA hitters, and didn't rate so much as a mention in Sickels' roundup of their system. Still, it's hard to go wrong in the Rule V draft...worst case you're out $50,000.

yea good work AA. I loved the nothing that you accomplished at the winter meetings. We didn't trade doc, the alledged front runners are denying there even involved in any sort of halladay dealings (not that that's terriably surprising), but even still, we haven't signed anyone short of John Macdonald, even when we alledgedly sign a scrub in Joey Gathright that get's shot right down. We traded nobody, we signed nobody, we accomplished nothing... can't wait for next season!!!!

So apparently we're looking into acquiring Marcus Thames.

He once scratched his ass and then the back of his right ear using his middle finger in my direction when I heckled him telling him he was garbage. True story.

John Lackey might be on his way to Boston for a physical. If so, this is our absolute worst-case scenario...the Angels would receive Boston's 1st rounder, bumping our comp pick down by 35-45 spots, and it would remove one potential source of leverage in dealing Halladay. Not good at all.

Yup, AA was definitely the only GM there who didnt make a trade or major FA splash during the winter meetings :roll:

Is it just me or is John Lackey hitting the market at the right year? Maybe it's a west coast thing but I don't remember him actually being that good. If he came out last year, I don't think he would have got, supposedly, a little more than AJ Burnett money.

I think when Boston signed Scuturo, they already knew that they weren't giving up a 1st rounder for him as part of the plan.

He's better than Burnett and probably quite similar to Josh Beckett. And Burnett got Burnett money on the market twice, so I don't think there ever is a bad year for a solid free-agent pitcher to hit the market.
