TNA's 3 hour special

Post#1 » by skbucks1985 » Wed Dec 9, 2009 11:03 pm

January 4th is TNA's 3 hour special and it is expected to be the night Hulk Hogan debuts with the company. Here are some random thoughts:

Are Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett idiots? You sign this guy to try to bring in casual wrestling fans and casual sports fans. So when do you schedule his debut, the night of the Fiesta Bowl. Lucky for them, its not a particularly sexy matchup but they didn't know that when they scheduled this. I don't think its a particularly difficult concept to understand, if you're TNA and you're gonna have a huge event don't have it on the same night as a BCS game.

WWE's reaction is even funnier. They haven't said anything publically but the fact that John Cena is doing the Fiesta Bowl coin flip speaks volumes.

Heh, yeah. They're always going to be up against something, but a BCS/NFL game is one you'd like get away from right away.

Hogan predicted they'll get a 3 rating, tripling their current ratings. If they do that, whatever TNA is paying him they should give him a raise. Tripling the ratings going up against the Fiesta Bowl and Raw would be quite an accomplishment.

They're not doing a great job promoting it. I haven't read or heard a word about it other than on wrestling specific sites.

Hogan, Carter and Bishoff were at last weekends TUF finale and Hogan announced it on free tv, so that was good exposure I would say. They should of said something on the Impact before the TUF finale...like telling them that Dixie and Hogan were going to be there for a special announcement or something.

I think all of us who lived through that 95-2001 era known as the Monday Night Wars hope that this can somehow be replicated because it was good for everyone, especially the fans. But I think were far, far from that. Like I said the WWE's reaction or lack thereof is very telling. If you want to over think this, you could say Vince is making a concerted effort to make it appear that he's not worried about TNA. But, Cena agreed to do this long before TNA announced their 3 hour special and the fact that Vince seems to be treating this show as just another show si very telling.

TNA needs to blow the budget on this show.

The must push the X Division.

Get some major drama going in the first 10 minutes of the show to people interested.( doing a skit for Hogan showing up in the final 5 minutes is not going to get it done).

They need a buzz.

Best bet would ne to start the show with some serious Mayhem. Have a surprise beat down and pump it through the show.

Let Nash have a real Faction.

Bring in RVD, Natch, Teddy Hart............

I never understand why people make comments like this. Wrestlers like the Goon were appearing on Raw even when the league was getting dominated in the ratings.

So Hitman has been confirmed for the 1/4/10 show, and Mike Tyson as the host the following week. Does TNA stand a chance at all, or is Vince going to squash them under his $500 shoes before they even have a chance.
