Re: Smith: Pops might be cut
I was happy to have him back but haven't seen anything out of him quite like last year as of yet it's not something I'm going to get upset about if he gets cut.

Re: Smith: Pops might be cut
If Pops wanted to stay on the roster he should have put up a shot on every position and start camping at the 3 pt line. These are the qualities that get rewarded by Triano.
All this hustle and energy stuff continues to get him singled out; he should worked harder trying to fit in.

Re: Smith: Pops might be cut
So are we going to make a new appreciation thread or just dig up the old one?
I think this is just in relation to the Jose situation, and like others have mentioned the first step in getting Arroyo if he is waived.

Re: Smith: Pops might be cut
Why did we cut Quincy Douby in the first place? I seriously don't understand BC's roster management. Guy was the perfect 3rd PG.
I think it be better if we kept Pops and signed no PG. That way we get to see Marco or Turk run the offense. No need to get Carlos Arroyo or anyone.

Douby's no point guard. He's just a midget two.

In a few months we'll be wishing we still had Pops to at least make games watchable in a lost season. Sort of like last year

Re: Smith: Pops might be cut
We should cut POB and then leave that roster spot open or get a PG from the NBADL.
POB is a scrub and he's an expiring, but his contract is too small for anything in a trade.

Could say the same about Banks, POB, Weems....
you can't.
Banks is unmovable and you keep him so his expiring equals cap room.
POB is costing us less than $1million for the year. why cut him?
Weems is young and has contributed when asked to. you keep him.
Pops is...Pops. energy but a whole lot of nothing else.

I wasn't making the argument to cut anyone else. I was agreeing that scrubs like the above list are the least of our worries. Even the cap room from Banks contract wouldn't make a tangible difference with this squad. As for cutting Pops, I'm all for it because he just really sucks.

Where are all the haters now ? i said that if given real game time minutes he wouldnt make stupid errors and he played great for us yesterday. He blocked shots, rebounded, provided energy. Thats exactly what you want out of a 12th man

Re: Smith: Pops might be cut
If Pops is cut, I would hope a deal follows within hours of the press release.
Anyone who has read this forum for any length of time know I am normally the first guy with the torch and pitchfork trying to get this bum out of town, but Jay is actually using him in a manner that does not make me vomit.
He is a energy guy when he have some foul issues, he goes to the basket hard all the time and has actually cut down on some of his terrible offense which made me hate him in the first place, i saw him PASS under the basket yesterday. Nearly dropped my beer.
He is still terrible in many aspects, and I have no doubt this board will overrate this one performance yesterday in place of the horrid ones prior,
However as the 14th man, and as a plug into the line-up, I don't mind him.
I actually would rather him then POB at this point.
He isn't good by any means, but for a guy on a min contract at the end of the bench he is showing me more then POB is, or Douby Did.

Anytime your last guy on the bench can come in and impact the game in a good way then its a positive. He accepts his role also, he brings energy, he was trying to pump up the crowd yesterday.

He's only ever supposed to be a rebounder and he's supposed to finish fastbreaks with dunks. When you don't play your role, you end up looking really bad.

Yea because his role is very important when your down 20 in the 4th. When the games important pops wont attempt stupid shots. He brings athletism, energy and goes to the offensive boards constantly.
Thank you! ^
Listen, this team lacks a hole lot of talent and especially when it comes to the athletic, running, jumping being fun to watch part of the game. We have the most boaring 5 on the floor when Weems and Pops are not in the game. They can finish on the run, and I am not down with this soft ball that we play for most of the game. He brings some D and he is instant energy you know that **** Bargs and Turky lack 9 times out of 10 when they are playing? I think we need to see more of Pops Weems Droz Jack and Bosh on the floor and even throw Amir in the mix for Pops or Weems. Some times we just cant keep up with guys that are just straight athletes. Shooting a ball and being finess does only so much (hence are losses to ATL)

I agree in Principal,
But lets not think for a second that yesterday is anything more then an exception to the rule with Pops.
Yesterday, it was a nice change. He played hard, he left the offense to players who have an offensive game to speak of, and was mixed up under the basket often, the crowd cheered him and you could see in his eyes that he wanted to do something else to get the crowd going nuts, and responds with a turn-over followed by a foul, followed by that awkward toss the ball up under the hoop missed FG.
If he can accept the fact that he should never have the ball under the other teams net unless he is pulling down a o-board or using BOTH hands to dunk with NO ONE around him then we will be on the same page,
Right now my argument for wanting him on the team is that he is not Patrick O'Bryant, and he actually seems to want to play, qualities the end of our bench lacks.
