So Rondo's an All-Star, no?

Post#1 » by Captain_Caveman » Sun Dec 13, 2009 6:52 pm

By my count, guy is a somewhere between 4th and 7th best in the East among guards this year.

Better = Wade, Arenas, Joe Johnson
Maybe better = Iguodala, Vince, Jennings
Not better = Rose, Stuckey, Ray Allen, Devin Harris, Mo Williams

SFs on team = LeBron, Pierce, Granger
PFs/Cs on team = Howard, KG, Bosh

On the bubble = Gerald Wallace, Lopez, Horford/Josh Smith, Shaq

Shaq and KG may make it just for sentimental reasons, but I do like the kid's chances, even if only as an injury replacement. He's certainly worthy of it.

I predict a injury exception all star entrance.
Not a voted starter and not a coaches vote(depending on who is coach).
But if he continues this way would be a shocker to see him not on it in some way.

Bogut should get in as 2nd Center (if not injured again).

The only thing that might speak for Rondo: There are no top notch point guards in the East. Arenas, Rose and Harris are struggling. Nelson is injured again and everyone knows now that Mo Williams was an All-Star-accident. Otherwise the East would nominate a fleet of SGs... but one PG should get the invite and it might be Rondo.

Gilbert Arenas is not better than Rondo.

Especially not this year. Nor is Jennings even a maybe.

Rondo should make it in, but he should have last year as well. Mo Williams' season last year was on par with Mike James in Toronto, nothing really special.

Obviously. There's isn't a better point guard in the East.

But it's a matter of whether he'll win the popularity contest, and specifically a matter of whether Iverson's voted onto the team (Iverson's not making it on the coach's vote). Can't say yet. Like Captain said above, if anything it'll be an injury replacement.

At a certain point, the "playing with 3 Hall of Famers" argument becomes valid.

You think we fall off with Gilbert at PG over Rondo? Not me.

Arenas is averaging 21 and 7 and he is going to make the All-Star team before Rondo does.

As for Jennings, he is averaging 21 and 6 and is a major reason for his team having a winning record.

I think Rondo and Jennings have been the best pg's in the east this year. Arenas shooting 40% isn't cutting it for me.

The way he's been playing, he should definitely be in. And if the recent struggles from Jennings continue, I would think it's a lock, but you never know.

A lot of people try to marginalize Rondo based on his FT shooting, but whatever.

Arenas > Rondo.

But Rondo should still make it, IMO.

Arenas is what he is at this point. He's a great scorer, but doesn't make his teammates better and doesn't have anything close to Rondo's court vision. He's a fun player to watch and I certainly wouldn't mind him in green but as a PG he leaves a lot to be desired.

Rondo is absolutely deserving of a roster selection in the AS game at this point in the season. However the majority of the selections are made via popularity, something Rondo doesn't necessarily have enough of at this point in his career. The guard selections also aren't very specific in regards to the fact that there can be a SG playing the 1 spot, which lessens his chances. I don't see him getting voted in, but I think he would have a great chance of making it on the team as a coaches selection(preferably Doc's if Boston is maintains the best record in the Eastern Conference).

He'll likely get a reserve spot.

Maybe better = Iguodala, Vince, Jennings

Rondo took Jennings to school last week. Completely owned him. Jennings couldn't guard him and couldn't stay in front of him. I say Rondo is clearly better.

Can't just go on head-to-head matchups, or you'd probably send Perkins over Howard.

Jennings is 11th in scoring, 14th in assists and has helped to lead his crappy team to a winning record despite Bogut and Redd having injury issues.

Just a very impressive rookie who is in the conversation with Rondo for a reserve spot.

I don't remember Perk dropping near triple-doubles on Howard. He just defends Dwight better that anybody else, that's it (not to mention that Bogut shat all over Perk in that same Milwaukee game). Not to take anything from Jennings, who's brilliant for a rookie, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Rondo is bigger, just as quick and way more experienced. He's the teacher and Jennings is a student in this match-up. As far as stats go, Rondo is 1st in steals and 4th in assists, not to mention that he's a starting point guard for the best team in the league and the best defensive player at his position.

Well, I'd send Rondo, but Jennings is right there with him at this stage.

On a related note, LOL @ me getting abuse for saying Rondo might be as good as 4th best out of East guards this year.

Anywhere outside of this board, that statement would get at least one raised eyebrow, if not two.

For him to make it we are going to have to drop one of the big 3 from the all-star team.. No way do 4 guys get sent..
