Pistons fan here , would you guys do this trade

Post#1 » by darthkiller » Mon Dec 14, 2009 6:34 am

Tayshaun, Rip ,Maxiell for Ray Allen(negociate buyout for a less amount so he can return to Cs), Tony Allen, Scal, Big Baby, 2 future first rounder, money toward buyout of ray allen.

pistons get rid of players they dont need , we winning games without them creating jams. we also get huge capspace in 2010 to sign a big man.

celtics get more depth with this trade but kills their capspace for the next 3 years.

Hmmm, so that leaves us with

PG Rondo
SG Allen
SF Pierce
PF Garnett
C Perkins

Bench
PG House
SG Rip
SF Prince
PF Williams
C Sheed

Yeah, to hell with capspace. This team probably wins this year and next year.

That trade would add like $25m to our payroll/lux taxes next season, lol.

Give us Ben Wallace too and then we have to find a way to get Billups and our 2nd unit will be the starting lineup from the 2004 NBA Champs.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't like that trade. It's essentially Ray and Baby for Rip and Prince. Maxiel and Scall suck, but Tony is a decent bench player if he can stay healthy. We give up our best 3 point shooter without getting one in return. Rip is not much of a 3 point shooter. We are left with Pierce as the only 3 point shooter in the starting lineup. And hasn't Rip been hurt a lot the last couple of years? No thanks. I'd rather try some way to get Joe Johnson in here.

Negative.....and give up 2 1st rounders? Um nah...no thanks....I think the Celts are fine the way they are now. no need to add extra $$$ and lose out on 2 first round picks.

But you're leaving out the significant part where we get Ray back.

This is one of those crazy trades that theoretically could work but almost never happen. I mean, we basically get Rip and Prince for almost nothing. Many here have been calling for Baby's head, and we're doing fine w/o his primadonna ass, so that's not a big loss. I also think Maxiel is underrated here. I haven't seen him play this year-- did his game disappear?

Anyway, a possible trade but very impractical. Do we really think Rip and Prince are going to be satisfied with Ray and Paul's table scraps? Doc would be as grey as Danny by April.

hamilton and prince are both coming off od injuries and maxiell doesn't really upgrade us over williams or baby. It might be a fair deal without the 2 firsts but no way you get baby and ray allen and 2 firsts for 2 guys who are done and a bench player. Ray, despite his age, is ingreat shape and has a few years left. I thik hamilton is done

 2 1st round picks that will be in the late 20s, and you don't want to give them up for Prince, Hamilton and Maxiel? We're not going to get any players in the draft, or through free agency that will be as good as any of the players we have coming in. And if it's draft picks that you want, I'm sure Ainge could easily turn Prince, Hamilton and Maxiell into 3 1st rounders without much of a problem.

You can't give up future draft picks for old guys on an old team, we are talking about dealing away their '12 1st round pick we have no idea what this team will be like at that point. You also can't start 7 guys, neither Rip or Prince have shown to be all that effective off the bench. Beyond that Ray is still the best player in the trade and while sure they can play the buyout game for this season, even then they can only offer him the minimum, we would be limited to the MLE to resign him in the off season when there is going to be all kinds of cap space.

The 3 guys the Pistons are trading have no trade value at the moment they aren't earning their checks and their deals go beyond this season. Dumars is a pretty good GM overall he just signed Max and Rips deals before the economic realities facing the league were clearer. All 3 guys would struggle to command half of their present pay check as FA.

I have some interest in Prince but would prefer Battier. But hell no on this trade.

I don't, but the owners do. Only pointed out that it was a lot because it's obvious the owners wouldn't pay the extra 25mil in luxury tax.

Interesting, I don't do it, but it's interesting that the OP assumes the Pistons would buy out Ray.. which means teams want him as an expiring contract and not as a veteran scorer/mentor.. if his loyalty to the C's is implicitly such that he'd return here after a 2 week vacation and be happy getting MLE money in the summer (since we'd lose his Bird rights), we'd have a chance to make a really big acquisition at the deadline - basically adding talent and payroll without losing any.
