Has our $50-million man finally arrived?

Post#1 » by sump » Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:24 pm

After seeing some of the game and Turks box score:

pos min fgm-a 3pm-a ftm-a +/- off def tot ast pf st to bs ba pts
H. Turkoglu F 37:24 9-18 2-3 3-3 +8 3 3 6 5 5 0 2 0 0 23

I think with Jose out of the line up it has made Turk more of the go to guy in terms of handling the rock. Instead of Jose prancing around we have a guy who is ready to cut to the hoop and hit some open shots.

Thoughts?

They ran the same play like 5 straight times in the 4th where he ended up with the ball at the top of the key. It worked well. Hopefully when Jose comes back they dont go back to just dumping it down to Bosh for a Iso on the blocks.
why was hakeem called "the dream"??"

Because it rhymes with 'Olajuwon'.

He better step it up now the Jose is out. He should've stepped it up all season. It's gonna take more than 1 good game to negate being non-existant for the first quarter of the season.

Yeah but he was also pretty terrible against Milwaukee and Atlanta. Not saying that to be just a debbie downer, but I would have made this topic after at least a couple of games, though FWIW, I've always been a huge advocate of making Turk essentially our secondary point guard (instead of the dynamic 20ppg secondary scorer everyone here wants him to be) so I'm not surprised that after a while, it has worked with Turk.

And FWIW again, I thought Turk would be at his best if he's dropping 15/5/5; an all around point forward that can do a little bit of everything and right now he's at 14/5/5. For Jack since he has started for us, 15/5/6 is what he's averaging. 29/10/11 is a pretty damn potent combo and an excellent combination of playmaking, rebounding, and scoring.

Meh, this can't be laid on Jose's shoulders. Hedo is just a lazy player who enjoys jacking up shots. Is he getting more comfortable that he's allowed to jack up shots...perhaps.

Actually, the newspaper stories say that the coaching staff inserted a couple of new plays for Turkuglu yesterday.

Maybe it's just me, but I find posting the stat lines like this useless. The numbers don't line up and it's hard to read. If the stats are important to your point, how about just writing out the important ones?
Hedo - 23/5/6 on 9/18 in 37min.

Easy.

My thoughts exactly. When people do that, I don't even bother trying to decipher the numbers, I just go to the boxscore myself.

He got shots,
Finally.

We sign the guy to be a point forward and make key shots, but rarely let him handle the rock and give him three less FG attempts then he got in Orlando and are surprised when he is sucking wind?

Hedo with shots is worth the money, Hedo running around playing Batgirl to Bosh's Batman and Bargnani's Robin is worthless.

this team's biggest issue is being consistent - so let's see a few games before we make any 'arrival' declarations.

I think he needs to be more consistent before we can say Turk "finally arrived". With a nick name like Mr. fourth quarter I expect more, I know he made a couple of big shots (ie Washington) but we haven't seen enough of it

1) At least 5 games.
2) Which lineup he performs the best with?

Its hard to see just from the number, but obviously, he is not being used and not knowing his teammates.
He has yet to kick out the ball often when he drives, but he is recognizing Bargnani and the corner 3 guys.

He's signed for the next 5 years, I'm sure he'll come and go a few teams. Why are we always in such a rush to jump the shark? Guess what, if today the board's consensus was that he arrived or that he'll never be worth the contract, what would that mean? Nothing.

he has been inconsistent his entire career, so he will have great games like yesterday, but also he will wanna make you jump out of the window at times. he's a great player, but don't hype him too much ;)
