The person who made the Snow comparison was almost dead on. JJ is like a rich man's Eric Snow. Same type of player, except JJ has a better shot.

Eric Snow was also a great defender though. Jack is good but he's nowhere near Snow in that category, just like how Snow is nowhere near Jack as a shooter.

"OK I admit, I'm a little biased here. I'm a Raptors fan from TO who happened to go to uni at Georgia Tech at the same time as future Raptors Chris Bosh and Jarrett Jack. I saw Jack lead the Jackets to a Final Four without Bosh. He's the perfect complement to a guy like Jose and we'll even be seeing them on the floor together at times--late game situations in particular. On the Pacers, he actually played the majority of his minutes at the 2. He's a big, physical guard who can defend the entire perimeter. His shooting and range have improved in the NBA as well. He's going to make dumb mistakes for sure. He tends to think he's a better ball-handler than he really is and he'll make some dumb passes.
But it's the other things that he'll bring that will add value to the contract. He'll be a vocal leader on and off the court. He's an intelligent student of the game and a great interview. He's very durable and hustles. He'll stand up for teammates. And I'll guarantee you he'll hit some huge shots that will make him a fan favorite along the lines of an Alvin Williams. He's one of those throwback players that all winning teams seem to have."
He hasn't changed and isn't going to. Chauncey had a huge jump in production in a system he was perfect for. Maybe that happens to Jack too. Who knows.
Bang on.

Funny how one good game is enough to sway most of the board. JJ had a good game. Billups has good games almost every night. You can't put the two in the same league based on a game, or even several games.

Jarrett Jack has had several good games since taking over the starting role and is in fact averaging 15/5/6, just that this board was muddled with suicidal posts and were close to doing this:

Jack's good play was the last thing on people's minds to discuss about.

What are you talking about lol ? Billups wasn't always a floor general/ all star point guard...he was in the exact same situation Jack is in at 26, Billups became Billups when he arrived at Detroit around 27-28 years old, the Jack and Billups comparisons at early stages in their careers all very accurate, I wouldn't be surprised if Jack went on to be a great player like Chauncy.Natural11 wrote:Funny how one good game is enough to sway most of the board. If an outsider read through the Raptor forum they would think the cold has frozen our brains:
Let's see we have according to some on these boards:
Jack: Chauncey Billups 2.0
DeRozan: Richard Jefferson 2.0 (minus the homo)
Hedo
Bosh
Bargnani: Dirk 2.0
LOLZ! Just terrible.

I just hope Jay doesn't do something stupid and start Jose over him just because of the bigger contract. I say play who ever players better on D. That should be Jack, he should start for the rest of the year if he keeps playing like this. Just like Smitch took TJ's job away from him when he got hurt, same thing should happen to Jose. Jose should get nothing more then 10-15 mins as a spark off the bench and NEVER see time at SG again. Only way Jose gets his starting spot back is if Jack gets hurt, which won't happen because Jacks not a pussy, he's a warrior who plays hurt.

A fanbase overhyping some of their prospects, not like this hasn't happened to any other team, right? Only the Raptors, right?

What do you think?
I think it's a fair comparison based on their physical attributes and leadership qualities, however their games have differences. Both are scoring PGs. Billups is stronger and has the ability to post. Jarrett is quicker and a much better slasher. Jarrett also has better shot selection/better shooter (depending on how you look at it). Both like to make flashy plays. Billups is a better ball handler.
I find it funny that guys in the thread say Jarrett isn't even close to Billups but what do you expect when one guy is a 10+ year veteran, Finals MVP winner?
Now if you want to compare them the first 4 years of their career, it's a different story as Jarrett's numbers are comparable. Actually for raw totals, Jarrett has more points, rebounds, assists, steals, and turnovers, while shooting much better from the field.
I'll be interested to see if Jarrett is able to "turn it on" in a system that will benefit his style of play and have some team success, notably making the playoffs, which is something he hasn't done.
Let's also remember that Chauncey was drafted #3 overall. Jarrett was drafted 22nd. How many 22nd picks from the last 10 drafts are still in the NBA? Let alone making strong contributions?

And we have him for 4 years on a great contract.
And now Jose cantake his time getting better and we actaully have a decent guy to slid into his spot.
The best signing of the summer imo.

Re: Does Jarrett Jack remind anyone else of..
It's a fair comparison. Just because someone says Jack has some of the same qualities as Billups, doesn't mean they're saying he has the same impact or plays at the same level. He's clearly no finals MVP or all star at this point, and likely never will be, the the similarities are undeniable.
They're pretty much the same size, both attack the basket very well (Billups is more of a shooter now, but at 26 he got into the lane with ease) and they show leadership on both ends of the floor. Even their jump shots look similar.
I'll gladly take a poor man's Billups on my team. I thought it was pretty funny that people considered 4 years 20 million to be overpaying. Considering the contract extends through the prime of Jack's career, it will end of being a bargain.

Billups? I don't see it. Billups was a much better ballhandler and scorer.
The 2 guys I think of when I watch Jack are DJ and Mookie Blaylock (Mookie was a better defender).
They did everything very well, but nothing great. They were steady, hard nosed players that were team leaders and opposing players knew they were in for a tough night when they played against them. I'm hoping Jack starts to get this type of rep if he continues his current play.

I actually see a young Billups, the guy that didn't know when to score and when to pass. He was also very turnover prone.
I'm hoping Jack finds his niche like Billups did. He probably won't ever be a finals MVP but I'll settle for Billups-lite.
