Re: Friendly Inquiry
I'd consider it, depending on where we stand around the deadline. Sure Murphy is playing well, but shaving one year off of his huge salary might be okay for a team going nowhere, not too mention his heir-apparent is ready to start.

Re: Friendly Inquiry
Well I certainly wouldn't be interested right now with Granger out. It could possible makes us the worst team in the league.
There's really little point to look into it in general though, as we'd have no immediate use for that space, and we get no long term investments out of it. The only thing that is of interest is the money management could possibly save next year, so it's a no from me.

Re: Friendly Inquiry
A deal like this would be very helpful, as the Pacers are going to be several million over the luxury tax next season. However, I don't think TPTB are going to pull the trigger on a deal like this including Murphy at this point.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Plus, I'm not sure Bird and Obie are ready yet to cut 2 of Luther Head, AJ Price, and Travis Diener to make this deal actually work since we already have 15 contracts.
However, getting the breathing room under the luxury tax next year is helpful.

I'd do that deal. Joe Alexander is far from just an expiring contract/throw in.

Alexander is a "flyer." Is he better than a late first rounder? Its a cinch he doesn't get much run in Milwaulke. Given the investment they made in this guy that's not a very good sign. I think I would rather have the late 2010 first round pick.
Bottom line if I can't get the expiring contract and a late 2010 first I'd do this deal. Watching this team the last couple of weeks briings me to the conclusion that the veteran core of Murphy, Dunleavy and Ford is simply wrong. Ford isn't tradable so the only recourse with him is to get him off the floor and minimize the collateral damage he represents. I don't think any team wanting to compete defensively can have Murphy and Dunleavy on the floor together for extended minutes. Long term one of them has to go.
Eliminating Murphy's salary creates the opportunity to sign a midlevel guy this summer. If a guy who fits is available its an option. I think I like that better than continuing to be the bad defensive unit that results from Murphy and Dunleavy playing together. It would also force minutes Hansbrough's direction. His accelerated development is more important than the difference in wins keeping Murphy around might represent.

Re: Friendly Inquiry
I thought Alexander was on the verge of having his rookie contract options declined by the team. Is that still true?
