A definite no to the Rubio trade, the Minny pick has more value at this point. The pick should be at least where Rubio was selected in the draft and the Clippers can add a player without all the contract issues associated with Rubio.
That Minny pick is still top 10 protected for the next two years and could easily be a late lottery - late teens pick by 2012.
You know, teams that draft really high tend to get better over time and i don't think they'll have another top 5 pick in 2012. Late lotto maybe, but not a high lottery pick.
Also, i consider Rubio as a real good prospect and think he would be a great addition in 2011. I mean, there's a reason why most people had ranked him at #2 before last years draft.
I disagree on the value of that pick, sure it could be late lottery if the Wolves select John Wall and/or Harrison Barnes and they can trade Rubio or Flynn for wing players, but if they end up with a top 3 or 4 prospect in each of the next two drafts, they could more likely still be a bottom 5 team. They may have some good prospects, but it could take a couple of seasons for them to develop. They have cap space in this offseason, but I don't see an impact player going there, particularly with all the other more successful franchises also having a lot of cap space.
Too many teams have passed them in the Western conference such as the Thunder, Grizzlies, Kings, Clippers, etc. that they would need to draft a superstar such as Wall or Harrison Barnes to make a big jump ahead of these teams. I also think Rubio could come over in 2012 or later to avoid have a rookie slotted contract by staying out of the league an extra season.
