nothing else, lets talk trade

Post#1 » by Darth Celtic » Tue Dec 15, 2009 11:20 pm

even with 2 key bench injuries. c's are coasting. top record, good play all around.

but with baby coming back (leaving scal ptless with sheldons good play) and daniels back (again making ta useless), you can start looking at the teams either in that 7-8 playoff seed or way below and look at what kind of trades danny could pull off.

now, not saying any of these are worth the money we'd pay them next year, or even this year. and chemistry is issue with a few. but all these trades include scal and ta, sometimes gidd, sometimes walker.

we also know that best bet for bench player is either a shooting gaurd, or a pg big enough to guard shooting gaurds to play along with eddie, or last a sf and have daniels be the sg.

1. with the sixers kapono, or willie green. not sure either is really better then ta, but both shoot better and know limitations (as in not hustling for awesome offensive rebound and turning it over 2 seconds later)

2. stevenson/foye combo. fills 2 rolls with 1 trade. when miller is back both there mins will go down, and at least stevenson can play defense and know how to piss of lbj every game.

3. tj ford. it wouldn't really solve the issue cuz tj and house would be hard to play at same time. but numbers work, pacers arent going anywhere and some money saved and late pick might be ok for them.

4. chicago. 1. John salmons (hate the guy, 1 hit wonder, bad numbers in lots of mins, but ok shooter) and he's not long term contract. 2. Kirk. great fit. plays d, can shoot, can guard the 2, play pg with eddie at the 2. but, hates c's, c's hate him. and contract is little long.

5. gomes. solid shooter now from 2 and 3. still little slow guarding 3's, but can post them up and play some 4 against teams like hawks. wolves save more cash, get another pick.

6. corry maggette. big time scoring off bench. rest paul and ray more. danny wanted him few years back. only issue is the contract. it's a little long term for me. 1st, expiring and we could have him i'm sure.

7. andre miller. can defend backup 2's. can run offense, get 2nd unit to run, and blazers want to dump him bad. contract little pricey, but with ray taking paycut next year we'd be ok.

those are the trades that make the most sense. and with eddie and daniels maybe leaving next year, and even ray, some make even more sense.

you know... foye would actually be a very solid option if the wiz continue to struggle

can play both back court positions, strong, scoring guard that would give us a good weapon off the bench, hes still reasponably young too

Camby or Raja Bell.

Big no way on most of the names listed. Salmons and Gomes are OK.

0 percent chance that happens. Those are the two players huge favorites in GSW. Some would argue they would keep either of them over Ellis.

I'd like Foye from Washington though. He'd be a solid transaction for our team.

Gomes or Azubukie are two options that are actually realistic. Most of the other ones aren't going to happen, especially Camby and Hinrich trades.

5. gomes. Not available. Wolves have 8 players returning next year if they don't waive Gomes, plus probably 3 first round picks (Minnesota, Charlotte, Utah) and two second round picks (Minnesota, Portland). Right now Gomes is too valuable to take back junk. They'll hold onto Gomes until they see how the draft picks pan out. solid shooter now from 2 and 3. still little slow guarding 3's, but can post them up and play some 4 against teams like hawks. wolves save more cash, get another pick.

6. corry maggette. Not with his contract. For 5 Million, maybe. Absolutely not for %10 million per. big time scoring off bench. rest paul and ray more. danny wanted him few years back. only issue is the contract. it's a little long term for me. 1st, expiring and we could have him i'm sure.

7. andre miller. Interesting thought. However, Celtics have nothing that would interest Portland. can defend backup 2's. can run offense, get 2nd unit to run, and blazers want to dump him bad. contract little pricey, but with ray taking paycut next year we'd be ok.

I still wonder if the Celtics are going to wait for Mike Miller to hit free agency this summer, or perhaps make a play for him with the intent to re-sign him for something more affordable. I guess it would depend on the wink winks with Miller and his agent over whether he'll settle for $6 Million per.

some of u i just don't understand.

how about.... (some guy that makes more money then we can trade out so we can never get him)

sure, how about him. for f sakes, do 30 seconds of research before u type.

and i love how some people will add in (not before mid feb) dirr freaking dirr. no way the c's trade anyone will near trade deadline. as that is the time teams will for sure be dealing for cap space when they know there team is not going to make it. i went through the teams that seem to be heading down the craptacular road and found guys that could be had for CAP SPACE, and maybe a pick.

why on earth would we want camby, and why on earth would clippers lose expiring for expiring, they gain nothing. u really want to give up all our wing depth and future pick for a 6th big?

this isn't (trade for the guy i like on any team) thread i just made up. It's realistic trades that help our depth at the 1, 2, 3 positions. We all know we'd all want all the good young players off other teams, but no team tanking down the hole will trade u the young cheap guys for cap room. think, please.

and chicago wants to rid cap space so they can get wade or bosh next year, they would give up players with longer contracts for cap space.

and i'm sure blazers will dump miller, and i'm pretty sure they won't get much more then ending contracts and a late pick or marginal prospect for him.

I think Danny will stand pat and not make any moves......if anything activate Lue if the point becomes an issue. I would like to see an upgrade but if the guys are healthy and are still winning....I think he will go with what he has.

If Ainge doesn't use this year's expiring contracts to bring in more talent it would be a shame. Next year the Celtics really only have the MLE to bring in talent and alot of that will probably go to Daniels, Shelden Williams, others etc.

Ainge has about $10.5 million in expiring contracts (Scal, TA, House, Giddens & Walker) which could bring back about $13 million in players for this season and the future. I think he will be very active at the trade deadline.

I not saying do any deal (Maggette's contract is horrible for example) but hopefully he can do a good deal to bring in players beyond this season.
