The positive to taking on AK-47, his giant contract, and his injury risk in exchange for the knicks pick is that AK-47 would be an (expensive) upgrade to Gomes at a combo forward, so he could give the team some production and defense at the 3/4 spots and provide that vet presence that everyone wants.
The negative, if you see it that way, is that unless we were to move Brewer and maybe someone else, we would be delaying any free agent moves until 2011. This would actually be a committment to the youth movement, since with 2 likely top 10 picks and probably another in the teens, we could fill our needs with some very talented young players. However, might make it more difficult to bring over Pekovic next year.
We would still have Blount's big expiring available for a trade for a vet, as well as our other assets.

Re: Another Klomp Trade (MIN/WAS)
I've wondered about a "Kirilenko plus unprotected pick for expirings" deal as well, but I don't think you can get a fair read here at RealGM from UTA fans. Many have convinced themselves for two years that pick is Chris Wall, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Even if NYK was the worst team in the league, the chance is only 25%. Moreover, NYK has won 4 of their last 5, and is only 2.5 games from making the play-offs in the East. Most Jazz fans can't imagine the damage that an OK player like Kirilenko does to their small-market team with his $17.8 mil next season.

Re: Another Klomp Trade (MIN/WAS)
If you wait untill right around the deadline there will be a better gauge of the value of the knick pick, and the the value i see in AK47 is in the 17 million dollar expiring contract next season. While he would provide a solid upgrade on the defensive end of the floor this season and the next the cap provided in 2011 along with a much more complete cast of young players would make this team look much more inticing than if currently is. If the Knicks end up with the 7th of 8th worst record in the league the talent added through the draft might be enough to land us one of the premier guys (Melo?) next offseason. Short term its hard to swallow, but it could be beneficial in the long run.

The wolves better get a first round pick for taking on the salary! I hope they don't make the move.

Hmm. Wouldn't be my first choice, but maybe we'd get a great deal because he's slumping and their finances are so f-ed up.

Butler really, really doesn't like playing with Arenas. If we just trade Cardinal + Gomes for him, I would be cool with that. Anymore than that though and I don't think it would be worth it.

Butler is a very talented guy. I would love this. Compare him to Gomes: better defender, stronger, more athletic, similar mid-range.

I tossed the deal up on the trade board, and neither side liked it. I thought this post has value.

WAS GETS: Gomes + Sessions + Cardinal + Jawai + $3.8 mil payroll savings
MIN GETS: Caron Butler + Mike James + Crittendon + Dominic McGuire
WAS $3.8 mil right now, doubled for lux is $7.2 mil. Besides being a lot of cash, it gives the Wizards flexibility for next year. If they fail now, they don't spend the money on free agents, and have well-priced back-ups with Gomes and Sessions. If they succeed, they have $7.2 mil in the coffers to pay over the lux again next year, and they've cut their 2010 payroll by $2.7 mil.
It seems I have a deal neither side likes. My thinking was to put the cash in WAS hands now to give them flexibility, and Gomes would serve as a cheaper alternative to re-signing Mike Miller.
Gomes could be removed for an expiring and a protected pick, (which he might gain in the open market anyway), but with the $7.2 mil up front, that pick would likely be something like UTA's pick, which is roughly Top 16 protected through the next four years. Personally, I think Gomes trade value > Sessions trade value. Finally, with Gilbert unmovable, a quality PG locked up for several years behind him made some sense to me.
I'm not sure MIN can do better than this though. Caron Butler is a really nice player and fairly priced in today's market. Unfortunately, MIN isn't going to win anything this year, and his deal ends next season, so they are buying him for one year, hoping they can retain him. Butler may be worth more to other teams, despite a great fit here, simply because they are farther along in their development, and get to make two title runs with him, rather than a wishful one for MIN next year.

Get it done. I don't mind anymore about cap flexibility. I WANT a wing who can score and defend decent.

Re: Another Klomp Trade (MIN/WAS)
WAS posters want expirings and a lottery pick for Butler, and I'd say this is comparable.
WAS GETS: Sessions + Blount (exp) + OPec (exp) + UTA pick + $3.3 mil 2009-10 cap space
MIN GETS: Butler + Mike James (waived)
WAS: Sessions should fit well locked up longterm cheaply, with Arenas virtually unmovable. They get their expirings, and a protected pick. They also get $3.3 mil off their payroll this year, saving them $6.6 mil
MIN: Adds a really good swingman, who can do it all and play defense. He has connections here, so perhaps he'd be willing to stay past 2011.
If they don't want Sessions, we could do this:
WAS GETS: Blount (exp) + Cardinal (exp) + UTA 1st + $3.2 mil 2009-10 cap space
MIN GETS: Butler + Mike James (waived) + Crittendon
Again, it gives them the $6 mil up front.

Re: Another Klomp Trade (MIN/WAS)
i know he doesn't fit out need for a scorer, but i'd prefer to have AK47 for his all around versatility and his shot blocking. I have dreams of a mid-second/early 3rd quarter lineup of Sessions Ellington Brewer AK Love flying up and down the court doing their best impressions of 6sec or less offense
