Trade idea 15+21 = 10?

Post#1 » by cpfsf » Thu Dec 17, 2009 12:58 am

I think moving up in the draft to #10 is possible and should be considered if you want to avoid drafting another power forward. Memphis, Toronto, and Indiana are teams that could make the trade. And if there's someone we really want Xavier Henry, Aminu, or Donatas Motiejunas (I don't know too much about the guy other than being a decent shooter).

its not even so much the fact we don't need another PF, we just need someone to play defense/block shots. like Kenyon Martin would be a perfect fit if he was still 23-27 years old

Memphis already got 3 picks so you can count them out, But Pacers are a possibility especially if you change #21 for Sessions, they need a point guard and this draft is poor on points.

I think you're wrong on this, we need a length and size. Rambis already complained about a lack of size, heck, even Al said after playing the Lakers how big they are and how small we are compared to them.

I think a lot of Timberwolves fans would have Aldrich no later than 4th (after Turner, Favors, and Wall). So basically there is a 44.2% chance of drafting him (since a lot of lottery teams don't need a center and can opt for some of those other guys I listed). Then go for Aminu or Henry at #10 and we got a decent lineup.

Couple things in regards to this...

1. We don't have a ton of guaranteed contracts next year, so we have plenty of roster space to carry the extra rookies.
2. This draft is pretty solid in the middle, and having two picks to take a chance on guys could be beneficial.
3. But moving up means getting a beter prospect. Xavier Henry would be my favorite guy in the range of moving up towards. Him paired with either Wall or Turner with our first pick would be sexy. He'd be a natural partner with Wall, and with Turner they'd just both be wings, no designated SG or SF, but their talents compliment each other well. Really with Henry being an athletic dead-eye shooter, his talents will compliment anyone. The kid can just flat out shoot the rock. And he's huge.

My dream is the Wolves take Wall, or Turner if Wall is gone, and then start calling everyone who picks after us and offer both Charlotte's and Utah's picks to move up. Find the best pick we can move up to, and tell them we'll make the trade barring the guy we want (Xavier Henry) is still there.

1. John Wall
2. Evan Turner
3. Derrick Favors
4. Cole Aldrich
5. Xavier Henry
6. Wesley Johnson
7. Stanley Robinson

My short board of prospects that I like for the Wolves. Not necessarily a top 10 overall, I skipped guys that don't make sense for the Wolves.

Wes Johnson and Henry would also compliment each other well. That's an awful big upgrade in outside shooting, size, and athleticism.

Yeah, but I'm hoping we do better than Wes Johnson or Xavier Henry with our first pick. Preferably Wall or Turner. Favors I'll tolerate, anybody else with our first pick and I'll cry.

The thing that scares me about Wes Johnson is he's 6'7" 120lbs(soaking wet), 42 years old, and has gone to like 27 schools since graduating from high school. Not saying he's a bad character, but there's just something not right about all that.

I'm just assuming our normal luck holds and we drop from #2 to #5, and I don't want Aldrich/Aminu anywhere near that early.

It might be just a tad early to start planning this sort of thing. A whole lot could change between now and then.

I'm on the same bandwagon as others here. Right now my ideal offseason looks like this:
draft Turner with our pick
trade CHA, UTA picks (and maybe a sweetener?) to move up for Henry
sign Przybilla as a FA

Flynn/Sessions
Henry/Ellington
Turner/Brewer
Love/Jefferson
Jefferson/Przybilla

better shooting - check
better wings - check
more size - check

Cleveland and LA could decide to tank for Wall and trade us LeBron and Kobe for expirings. GET ER DONE KAHN! :-)

Let's be honest, we'll more than likely have a top 5 pick in the 2010 draft.

Shrug. Maybe, but 95% of what we talk about is either random off topic material or speculation about the future/trades/draft. If we eliminate all that, there will be virtual tumbleweeds blowing around the board.

We'd be like the New Orleans board where a week went by before they had a thread about their head coach being fired.

Could you imagine if we didn't talk about stuff like this? We could be breaking down how awful the defense was last night or how much Flynn overdribbles or Big Al being a black hole. I don't think I could be a Wolves fan if I couldn't talk about the future. Way too painful!

Cracking down our defense? We'd have better luck trying to crack the lobishome code (which btw can't be done.)

Yeah, we should be talking about making the playoffs instead.
