Lets say the Lakers go 67-15 (1st in West) and the Cavs go 59-23 (3rd in East).

Neither team faces major injuries.

Kobe's numbers are 28-5-5 on 49% shooting.
LeBron's numbers are 28-7-7 on 50% shooting.

Who wins the MVP?

Assumption, not fact. The truth is we really don't know how well LA would do without Kobe, and it really shouldn't matter. Otherwise, we should just name the award "Least Valuable Supporting Cast", instead of MVP.

As of today my Top 5 are:

1) Kobe
2) Lebron
3) Nash
4) Dirk
5) Pierce

If Phoenix gets anywhere near to the top, Nash could well win it again. That team was written off like a red-headed step-child!

Bulls***. That Pistons team was VASTLY overrated. They beat a Laker team that start Shaq, Brian Cook, Luke Walton, Kobe Bryant, and Derek Fisher in the Finals. Good for them. Payton was backing up Fisher, Malone was injured.

please check which suns team Kobe blew the 3-1 lead against. It wasn't the 62 win team you are suggesting it was, Kobe's lakers only won 34 games that year and missed the playoffs. It was the next year - the suns won 54 games and Amare was out. The starting lineup was Nash, Marion, Bell, Diaw and Tim Thomas.

I'm not sure what any of this has to do with MVP this year, though.

You realize that Suns team didnt have Amare and started Boris Diaw at center? There tallest player that series was 6'8. Also, Kobe got GREAT production from Odom who averaged 19 ppg 11 rpg and 5 apg on good percentages. Its sad Kobe quit on him and the Lakers in Game 7.

Fixed. That is a more likely scenerio.

NYK 455 wrote:My only problem with Kobe as MVP is that he isn't as valuable to his team as some other candidates around the league and some of the past winners. James, Nash, Nowitzki, Garnett, Duncan were all crucial to there teams success, their teams wouldn't have even made the playoffs without them. Without Kobe, the Lakers are still a 50 plus win team. But the fact that he's the man on the best team puts him near the top....

The C's proved they can make the playoffs without KG. They were pretty damn close to getting into the ECF without him.

first of all all you guys list are dumb. If you really know basketball then you should know that bron should not be on your list. The reason why he won the MVP last season was the fact that his team finish with the best record. The fact that is team play is down this year shows that he did not elevate his game, therefore he should not be on nobody list. the kid is great but he should not be on your list. But you fools are putting him up there because of last season. He is the prince of the nba not the king. with all that said hear is my lis.

Kobe. his team is still number one.
Nash. his team is the best surprise team this season.
dirk.
Melo. he could be up to number two. melo is playing the best ball at this point

You can make a case that Kobe didnt elevate his game, his teammates were just "elevated"

Kobe's leaving bron in the dust. 2 game winners this season already. What's more valuable than putting the ball in the hands of a guy when you need a bucket to win the game and knowing he'll probably come through?

And these weren't just go ahead buckets, they were if you miss, you lose the game.

They should never be in the position to win on a game winner. Kobe and the Lakers are also playing down to there opponents this year.

Please. Only 3 losses seperate LA from Cleveland. In fact, had the right call been made in tonight's game, I think LeBron would've edged out Kobe in most MVP rankings around the net. The records would've been 19-5 to Cleveland's 19-7. Add in LeBron's far superior numbers and LA's cupcake schedule, I think tonight's game would've done it.

Be very thankful for that ref.

You forget the multiplier effect. 3 losses is huge. 3 losses today is 8 or 9 by season's end.

3 losses is pretty insignificant when LA's only played half the amount of road games Cleveland has.

And again, that ref absolutely saved Kobe from trailing LeBron in the MVP rankings from tomorrow morning onwards.

Actually the Lakers SOS has been among the highest in the league so far. They've played lots of home games, but the cumulative record of their opponents was close to .500. Boston and Denver have had two of the easiest schedules in terms of opponent's win % so far this season. Atlanta and LA have both had tougher schedules.

Secondly, it was all three refs that made that call. They gathered to talk to each other after the play.

To me Kobe and LeBron are tied at number one for me.

1. Kobe or LeBron
2. Steve Nash
3. Carmelo Anthony
4. Dirk
5. Dwight Howard

LMAO.

Ok, so if the Cavs lose to the Bucks, I assume you'll place Kobe firmly ahead of LBJ?

Heading into tonight's game, the lakers SOS to date was rated the easiest in the league.
