Kobe Needs to Fix All His Fingers

Post#1 » by Patterns » Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:10 pm

Because it bugs me. I don't care if he can play through it. I want him to be 100% because when he has a 7/21 shooting night, I always wonder if he had good fingers, he could have gone 10/21 or 11/21.

Get surgery done and fix that stuff. Take a few games off.

I think the reason he's never had surgery is because team doctors have probably looked at his hands and said, "eh they're ok". But if it was really bad I'm quite sure Kobe's people would suggest he get it fixed.

He's clearly having trouble gripping and dribbling the ball. I'd prefer if he sits a few games or gets the surgery done when we had that long home stretch and even now is not too late imo.

I dont know about the current injury, but the finger he injured before, although its minor. I was told that the surgery for that would cost him multiple months of not playing. which is why he opted out to not doing it.

If he HAD to get surgery he would have gotten it already.

meh... you know on the one hand it does make you wonder: "could he be shooting a higher percent if he had offseason surger?" On the other hand... he's shooting better than he has pre-injury percentage wise. check it out: http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/player/kobe-bryant/careerstats/71272

I know some of his boost is an increase in post game, but last year he was also shooting 3's better... so I'd say it's really not an issue other than the current injury which is fresh and will take a little time to heal up.

Only way Kobe will get his fingers fixed is if someone went to him and smashed his fingers with a hammer. Nah, Kobe will just figure out a way to play and shoot with his feet.

I have a feeling he'll get surgery on this finger over the summer, being on the shooting hand its going to be more important that it's corrected. Anyone know where he stands for the '10 FIBA games, has he committed?
Thank you, Phil.

Verbal (not the Realgm user) commitment from the last time I read what Colangelo said.

If he can play and be effective and the teams medical staff have cleared him to play there's no reason for him to look into surgery until after the season. Oh yeah, hi everyone new to the board.

honestly hes hard headed doesnt he already have a finger or more not in the right place because he didnt get them fixed. I for one think he should take time off to get that done he said that last season after season is over he was going to get surgery but never did . Might mess him up in playoff's anyone think the same ?

From everything I've heard and read, avulsion fractures do not normally require surgery, but rather just rest and care. Now, obviously he's playing basketball every night so it might take longer to heal than normal, but if it's protected with a splint, and the training staff doesn't think he can do any further damage to it by playing, then why WOULDN'T he play? It seems like he's adjusting to the splint- his shot looks better every game, especially on the free-throw line, so he can obviously play with it until it heals on its own and he's back to normal.

If this injury had any type of long-term risk, then obviously the Lakers training staff and organization would INSIST he get surgery, and he wouldn't have a choice anyway because it would probably be TOO painful.

I'll trust the best medical staff in the world on this one.

kobe's adjusted, hes gotten used to it

leave it alone, unless its really causing severe discomfort

the same thing with the pinky, the same thing with the dislocated ring finger, it will be the same with the fractured digit...

he might clean the finger out in the summer, but in the meantime, hes going to adjust, play through the pain and things will turn out all the better

How long would the recovery time take if he did it in the offseason, with all of his fingers back he would use that killer crossover he used to do a couple years ago man that was lightning

I hope this means Kobe went outside of the Laker organization to get his finger checked. No way are the Laker doctors the best in the world. After what happened with Bynum I don;t trust them at all.
